Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 105: 105 together

The two of them had time to chat every day. Tan Shaoting became more curious about this little girl. She really didn’t behave like someone her age.

Speaking of Su Daqiang and his spouse, it’s impossible for them to raise such a child. He knows what kind of a child Su Liangliang is.

She really resembles his junior sister from his grand past life. Mature, experienced.

On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, there were lantern festival dumplings on the dining car. Su Yuanyuan, quite in the festive spirit, bought ten, costing fifty cents. The filling was quite small, just crushed peanuts and brown sugar.

But the taste was alright. The cornmeal is a bit roughly ground, but it’s quite decent.

”Su Yuanyuan, we can arrive the day after tomorrow.”

”What time roughly will we get off the train the day after tomorrow?” Thankfully all visible luggage is in the carriage.

”In the evening.”

”Is there a place to stay after we get off?”

”Yes, there are hotels, of course.”

”That’s good, let’s meet at the hotel then.”

”Alright, I’ll come to pick you up in two days. We’ll have one day.”

When they got off the train, it was past eight o’clock. Tan Shaoting didn’t have much luggage, so most of Su Yuanyuan’s luggage was carried down by him.

The two of them arrived at the hotel one after the other; Tan Shaoting was also staying here tonight.

There was only one room with a heated brick bed. In the end, they had to stay together. This was not a time for pretense, people could literally freeze to death.

Moreover, they were eleven and fourteen, the server saw them as acquaintances and said nothing.

After all, here, the whole family shares a bed regardless of gender because it’s too cold. It requires a lot of firewood, so they wouldn’t waste it to heat multiple beds.

Su Yuanyuan didn’t think much of it. They were all dressed, and their ages were apparent.

Tan Shaoting, however, felt very embarrassed. He had never lived past thirty in his past lives. In the first life, he was devoted to practicing skills, so he was quite naive. After his master was harmed, he impulsively sought revenge, but the gap between him and the enemy was too great. He was easily defeated.

In the second life, arriving in this place, he was in poor health and suffered from hunger, deteriorating further. Even though he endured through the famine of those years, his body was already failing, not living past thirty.

This life, he was reborn in the body of his past life. Avoiding drowning, and secretly practicing skills, his body became very good. His goal in this lifetime was to die of old age.

He had little contact with girls. Spending eight days in the carriage with this little girl, and now having to sleep in the same room, on the same bed, he felt extremely uncomfortable.

But he valued his life. Even if he was embarrassed, he would never joke about his own health.

Su Yuanyuan directly laid out the bedding, using her own luggage. After getting hot water, she washed in the room and then lay down in bed.

This heated brick bed could sleep four people. So there was room for two more people between them.

Tan Shaoting knew the little girl was ready. He got off the bed to wash, his actions more meticulous than Su Yuanyuan’s. He even tidied up the room before getting back on the bed.

Honestly, the bed wasn’t too warm, but at least it wasn’t too cold to sleep.

Tan Shaoting couldn’t fall asleep while hearing the light breathing of the little girl on the bed, and thus couldn’t sleep.

Su Yuanyuan, on the other hand, had no problem. She slept till dawn. It was already past eight, so they went outside for breakfast, which was corn grits porridge and buns.

Tan Shaoting told Su Yuanyuan again, ”The day after tomorrow morning, I’ll come to get you.”

”Okay, I’ll wait for you here. Can the donkey cart hold my luggage?”

Tan Shaoting nodded, ”I don’t have much stuff, it definitely can.”

About half an hour after Tan Shaoting left, Su Yuanyuan went out with a basket, trying to conceal it. After all, many things had to be done openly. So she went back and forth carrying things.

White flour, cornmeal, sorghum rice, sausages, and a big piece of fat meat for making lard. These foods took three trips.

Then there were some supplies, tools, plates, bowls, and basins.

Anyways, all these were what she usually used. Her comings and goings drew the attention of the server.

Su Yuanyuan finally brought in a goat during the lunch break of the server. She thought if people saw it, they wouldn’t allow a goat in the room.

Actually, Su Yuanyuan overthought it. Livestock is extremely precious here. People wouldn’t mind.

Su Yuanyuan took out the goat’s feeding bowl, watching it eat.

”It’s so cold here. I don’t know if you can hold on? If you stayed back home, it would’ve been good.

Should I make you a cotton coat?”

After speaking, she shook her head, realizing this was out of the question. It had to adapt itself. There was no other choice, since they had to live here long term.

At noon, Su Yuanyuan went out to eat, this time an acid cabbage-filled pancake, bought one and returned to the room. Instead of eating, she started the fire.

By making the fire herself, she saved the server trouble; they were pleased and didn’t say anything even when she took longer at it.

In the afternoon, she went out again, bringing back a new set of bedding, which was handmade by her. Su Yuanyuan felt that one set was not enough.

She bundled herself like a bear but still didn’t feel warm enough, though it wasn’t particularly cold either.

Thus, the first day was spent making endless trips to the room, transporting things.

Because she made her own fire during the day, the bed was much warmer at night.

Su Yuanyuan thought the farm had plenty of firewood already, so once she settled in, she could burn some firewood secretly.

The next day, she stayed obediently indoors, only going out at noon to buy a pancake, spending the rest of the time inside.

But come night, just after she came out from the space and lay in bed, Tan Shaoting returned.

Seeing the piles on the floor, and a sheep in the room.

”Was this all your preparation?”

”Yes, considering it will be hard to easily come out once at the farm, I prepared lots of food and supplies yesterday.”

”What’s with the sheep?” Tan Shaoting chatted with Su Yuanyuan while washing up. His little donkey was tethered outside.

”Back home, being young, I had two acres, so I used sheep to till, and I brought the tiller as well coming here, hence I bought a sheep.”

Tan Shaoting said nothing. He didn’t believe the little girl, but couldn’t explain it either.

So he didn’t ask further. After all, they weren’t that familiar yet. Having experienced the warmth and coldness in humanity in past lives, he knew some things shouldn’t be probed too deeply.

The bed was quite warm today, very comfortable. Lying on it, Tan Shaoting felt life ought to be lived this way.
