Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 139: 139 encounters

”It should be possible. We’ll find a way when the time comes. Once we reach the border, we’ll figure out how to cross.”

Yuanyuan’s idea was to contribute her part. She always felt she should do her best.

Tan Shaoting nodded, he agreed. He didn’t know much else, but he understood that when the nest is overturned, no egg stays intact.

He had already marked the spot, so they both returned to China a week later.

One could say the harvest from this trip was immense, with hundreds of thousands of pounds of grain in the space.

The two of them inquired at the train station about how to reach the border.

”There are no direct trains, you need to transfer at M City.”

As long as they could get there, Yuanyuan felt relieved. They had been away for two months, and in another two months, it would be the New Year. She calculated the time and figured they’d probably spend the New Year on the train.

She looked apologetically at Tan Shaoting, ”Shouldn’t you head back first?”

”No need, it’s the same for me no matter where I am. I spent last year’s New Year outside too.”

They bought train tickets, tickets directly to M City, which was a bit farther than going back.

The benefit of taking the train here was that you’d definitely get a sleeper seat.

Yuanyuan was satisfied with this. For nearly a month, both of them had been mentally tense.

Now they relaxed a bit. Yuanyuan slept deeply and soundly.

When they arrived at M City and got off the train, Yuanyuan saw on the other side of the platform that they were loading up cargo, probably grain and supplies, most importantly guarded by soldiers.

They didn’t rush to leave but stood aside watching.

”Let’s try to get a closer look,” Tan Shaoting whispered.

Yuanyuan agreed, figuring it must be military supplies. It would be great if they were directly transported to the border.

Before they could get closer, they were stopped. There was no way to approach, so they had to return to the waiting hall.

”Should we jump the train?” Tan Shaoting whispered.

”If it’s really not possible, then let’s jump the train. In that case, we’ll just drop off the grain.”

Tan Shaoting raised an eyebrow, not seeking fame, but surprised the little girl had the same idea.

They didn’t linger in the waiting hall and headed straight out.

It was just Yuanyuan’s luck; as they went out, they saw a jeep of the arriving leaders.

Yuanyuan whispered to Tan Shaoting, ”You wait here, it’s safer for a girl like me to go over.”

Tan Shaoting held Yuanyuan’s hand, ”How could that be possible?”

Yuanyuan had no choice but to run over.

”Comrade, comrade.”

Before they got close, they were stopped.

Zeng Zhenqing heard the girl’s voice and saw both of them running and getting stopped.

”Comrade, I have something to ask.”

Zeng Zhenqing hesitated, ”Let them come over.”

Yuanyuan knew she’d make it as long as she wanted to.

They stood before Zeng Zhenqing. ”Comrade, we just got off the train. I’m Su Yuanyuan from L City’s Second Farm, and this is Tan Shaoting from the Second Farm. We just returned from T City.”

Zeng Zhenqing looked at the anxious-speaking girl, ”Comrade, what do you need from me?” He was dressed plainly, so they shouldn’t know his identity.

”Comrade, both of us worked especially well this year on the farm. Besides our wages, we earned over five thousand yuan.

We went to T City intending to go abroad to buy grain and deliver it to the soldiers at the border.

But we’ve been circling for a while, one because we don’t understand the language there, and two because we don’t know how to cross. We thought we’d take the train from M City to the border, or if not, we’d donate the money.”

Zeng Zhenqing raised an eyebrow, thinking why did you come to me then?

”Comrade, I know you’re a leader, I can tell. Comrade, I just saw them loading over there, can we give you the money instead?”

Zeng Zhenqing saw the little girl speaking, couldn’t see any other expression but those eyes fixed on him.

”You don’t even know who I am, yet you’re comfortable giving me the money?”

Yuanyuan kept staring at Zeng Zhenqing, ”I know you’re a leader.”

Zeng Zhenqing laughed heartily. ”You two come with me.”

Being in his forties, he suddenly found himself amused by the little girl’s words.

Yuanyuan felt she bet right this time. So they followed Zeng Zhenqing.

They entered a room there. Zeng Zhenqing looked at the two half-grown kids standing next to him.

After entering, they took off their scarves, hats, and masks.

”Please have a seat, young comrades.”

Yuanyuan sat down, took out their proof letters from the bag, and handed them over. ”Comrade, these are our proof letters.”

Zeng Zhenqing glanced over them, ”Hmm, how did you know I was the person in charge?”

Yuanyuan inwardly thought, you’re riding a small car and have protection, isn’t it obvious? Thinking this, she said it aloud.

After hearing her, Zeng Zhenqing laughed heartily. ”Yes, you’re right.

These supplies indeed need to be delivered to the border.”

”Comrade, leader, we initially intended to buy grain abroad. But we don’t know how to handle it. With this money, the two of us just want to make some contribution to the country.”

The two had discussed this money; if nothing else, they’d buy fertilizer. Anyway, keeping such a large amount was not an option.

”Oh? You two are quite young but have such noble ideas. Very commendable.

However, you can go buy grain.”

Zeng Zhenqing suddenly thought it might really be feasible.

There were issues if they went through official channels, but what if individuals did it? That would be different, wouldn’t it?

Thinking of this, he looked at the two teenagers.

He wasn’t clueless. This year’s nationwide drought meant these two earned a significant amount, suggesting they had remarkable abilities.

Zeng Zhenqing trusted their word; after all, among this batch of supplies were those sent over from their side. He also heard the grain was grown by two teenagers.

Yuanyuan was stunned by Zeng Zhenqing’s words, ”Comrade, really? We don’t have their currency, don’t know where to exchange it, and can’t understand their language.”

Zeng Zhenqing nodded, ”It’s possible. If you want to go, I’ll make arrangements, and someone there will handle bringing out the grain.”

”Leader, does that mean we just need to handle the purchasing?” Tan Shaoting asked.

Zeng Zhenqing nodded, ”Yes, that’s exactly it.”

Yuanyuan glanced at Tan Shaoting. Then they both nodded simultaneously, ”Leader, we’re willing. I think nothing is more important than grain right now.”

”Alright, I’ll be leaving this time. I’ll assign someone to escort you there. He’ll also coordinate with you on the spot.”

Both of them nodded, ready to follow instructions.

Getting another chance to go was very nice; this time it wouldn’t be in secret.
