Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 95: 95 Help

Hu Chunhua also tried to persuade her, ”Girl, you might not recognize them now; they are your parents.

Actually, none of us knew that this girl, after being rescued from the water that year, remembered nothing.”

Su Yuanyuan was taken aback, feeling extremely grateful to Hu Chunhua in her heart.

She too came from the countryside and understood that people here can be a bit blindly filial, believing that no parent is ever wrong. For Su Yuanyuan to beat up her mother like this, it really made people find it hard to sympathize with her.

”Girl, let go; this is your brother, and this is your mother.” Hu Chunhua looked directly at Su Yuanyuan.

”Aunt, so these are the parents who wanted me dead. Really different, huh? You all wish the best for your children, but they couldn’t have cared less if I died. I thought you were comforting me before. So, I do have parents after all.”

The dissatisfaction among the crowds watching the scene dwindled significantly. Su Yuanyuan felt the malice fade away.

”Yuanyuan, stop talking. Everyone knows your situation. Let go now.” Xu Chunjiao also tried to persuade her.

”Chief, Aunt, I thought they were thieves, breaking into my home. When I came in, they were scolding and about to hit me. Of course, I fought back.”

Saying this, she lifted her foot, causing Su Liangliang, who was playing dead on the ground, to roll and crawl away from Su Yuanyuan as far as possible, still arrogantly cursing, ”Bad luck, a harbinger of doom, I’ll kill you later.”

Su Yuanyuan’s movements were swift; with a stick, she struck directly on Su Liangliang’s shoulder. He went down again.

”Hmph, I’ve died once, Su Yuanyuan, so what do I have to fear? I tell you, it doesn’t matter who you are, if you don’t watch your mouth, I’ll hit you until you behave.”

Tian Xiaohua on the ground let out a howl; Su Liangliang was her precious darling.

Su Yuanyuan hadn’t moved the stick away, so when Tian Xiaohua came forward, she bumped right into it.

”Unlucky star, cursed by the heavens, why don’t you go and die? Do you dare to hit my son? What did he say wrong?”

Su Yuanyuan looked expressionlessly at Tian Xiaohua. ”You call me a bad luck star, but the one who gave birth to me, aren’t you the real bad luck star?

Everyone think about it; I remember someone said that back at her mother’s place, nothing went right; after she married into the Su family, my grandfather’s health declined, and the good days at home vanished. You wanted me dead, but when you left, weren’t your lives outside still miserable? But after I left you, with the help of everyone, I started living a good life. So, tell me, who really is the bad luck star?

Even livestock take care of their offspring, yet you, such a harbinger of doom, are so heartless to your own child.”

After Su Yuanyuan spoke, the way the villagers looked at Tian Xiaohua changed.

”The girl is right; whenever I hear Tian Xiaohua speak, misfortune follows; it’s either a trip or discomfort somewhere.”

Once one person said it, others also started to recount some ambiguous tales, pinning them on Tian Xiaohua regardless of whether they were her doing or not.

”You’re talking nonsense, sheer nonsense; you’re the harbinger of doom.”

”You’re not a harbinger of doom? I don’t know what happened exactly, but I’m guessing it was you who pushed my dad to go to Jiangbei, right?

See, everyone knows what your life in Jiangbei was like; exhausting. You say you’re not the harbinger of doom, who is?”

Su Daqiang, standing to the side, also thought what Su Yuanyuan said made a lot of sense.

This Yuanyuan girl should have been born on the seventh, but because Tian Xiaohua refused to give birth unless I made noodles with poached eggs for her, she ended up being born on the eighth of La month after I made a big bowl of noodles with two poached eggs, otherwise, Yuanyuan wouldn’t have been born on the eighth.

Now, in Su Daqiang’s eyes, Tian Xiaohua was indeed a harbinger of doom.

”Unlucky star, you’re spewing nonsense.”

Su Daqiang thought over it. With Yuanyuan being alone, he had to keep her steady, so he could make her take his place.

Having understood this, he spoke up, ”Yuanyuan’s right; when you were about to have Yuanyuan, you refused to give birth because I didn’t make you noodles with poached eggs, so Yuanyuan came out on the seventh. Isn’t this because of you?”

Now all the onlookers understood; so there was a story behind this.

Tian Xiaohua was stunned, not expecting Su Daqiang to say this. She immediately retorted, ”Didn’t I lack the strength because of hunger?” Her words held little confidence.

Su Yuanyuan also achieved her goal, so she decided not to dwell on the matter further.

”Yuanyuan, we came back to see you.” Su Daqiang hurriedly changed the subject to prevent Tian Xiaohua’s reputation from truly getting ruined, thinking also for Liangliang’s future prospects of getting a bride, as reputation could be a hindrance.

Su Yuanyuan looked at Su Daqiang, thinking he was really a shameless coward.

”You came back to see me? Then why did you smash my door?”

”We came back this morning and you weren’t at home, so we had no choice. It’s cold outside, and there’s nothing to eat. Don’t worry, Yuanyuan, I’ll buy you a new lock.”

Su Yuanyuan laughed internally; just the right moment. She turned to look at Yang Hongwen and Yang Minggang, ”Dear Uncles, now that my parents are back, I can finally repay the money I owe you.”

The onlookers knew that over these two years, it was the two families who took care of Su Yuanyuan, aware that she borrowed money from them.

Su Daqiang was momentarily stunned, but then thought, how much could this girl have borrowed? To have her take his place in Jiangbei, repaying the debt seemed worth it. But he had to keep her steady.

”Right, dear brothers, how much does this girl owe you? Now that I’m back, I’ll repay it.”

Su Yuanyuan smiled, thinking how wonderful and divinely fortuitous this was.

Yang Hongwen also cleared his throat, ”This girl owes me a hundred and sixty yuan. She bought a small iron cart, and when you left, I gave her a bag of corn kernels. I also provided her with more grains. Corn, wheat, among others, and she borrowed money from me to build this courtyard wall.

I was just worried about this girl living alone at the foot of the mountain, afraid of wild animals coming down. After all, she was really too young.”

Su Daqiang was taken aback, but then he understood. This small cart he could use later, and this courtyard wall was good, saving him some effort. But a hundred and sixty yuan was indeed too much.

Yang Minggang quickly chimed in, ”This girl owes us ninety-eight yuan.

She didn’t have any farming tools, so she borrowed money from us to buy them, along with crop seeds. Pots, pans, and plates were all bought with our money. Even the cotton and fabrics for clothes she bought in the village were bought with money borrowed from us.”

Su Daqiang consoled himself, thinking he would use these farming tools later, though he was very dissatisfied with the cotton clothing matter; why couldn’t she just get by?

Yet, he dared not voice this in front of so many people. Back then, he really had forgotten about this girl. It was only after selling everything that the village chief came to find him.
