Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 89: Come back 89 times

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”It’s fine. Each of your families can send over two pigs.”

Hu Chunhua hurriedly left. She told her husband about the situation, and the two of them went to Yang Hongwen’s house.

After a final discussion, they decided to start slaughtering the pigs after dinner.

In the middle of the night, Hu Chunhua and Xu Chunjiao pushed four pigs over. Their pigs weren’t small, and these four weighed about eight hundred pounds.

Su Yuanyuan noted the weight and told them to wait at home; today she would go to the county to find Old Yang.

The plan was not to sell the pork. The wild boars were sold, and these would be kept for later.

After they left, she put the pigs directly into the space and set off at five in the morning. When she reached the county, Old Yang and his crew were loading the truck.

”Girl, why are you here so early?”

Su Yuanyuan smiled, pressing her lips together. She wasn’t used to her missing front tooth from last night.

”Have you eaten yet?”

Su Yuanyuan covered her mouth, ”Uncle Yang, I’ve already eaten.”

”Then just stay inside; we’re almost done loading the truck here.”

Old Yang came inside after a quarter of an hour, ”What’s gotten you so happy, like a cat that got away with some mischief?”

”Uncle Yang, we have nine six- to seven-hundred-pound wild boars at home.” Su Yuanyuan said, still covering her mouth.

”Nine?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded with a smile.

”Alright, I’ll arrange it now. It should be more than what we needed last year. You know they’re setting up a commune, right?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded.

”Actually, everything will belong to the commune in the future. My workshop won’t be mine anymore.

Basically, we won’t be able to do small trades anymore. Meaning, even if you have money, you might not be able to buy what you want.”

”So everyone with money is starting to hoard supplies?”

Old Yang nodded approvingly, ”Exactly. Just wait, I’ll go now.”

”Uncle Yang, I’m going to check out the grocery store.”

”Girl, you’d better not. You can’t buy anything. We received news two days ago that they controlled several grocery stores. There will be a supply and marketing cooperative in the future.”

”Alright, I’ll just head back then.”

”Okay, I’ll come over at midnight; I don’t want anyone to notice.”

”Uncle Yang, I can’t find anyone to slaughter the wild boars.”

”I know; tomorrow in the village, collect chicken, duck, and goose eggs for me. Of course, the chickens, ducks, and geese themselves are even better. Have them all slaughtered.”

”Understood. I’ll head back now then.”

Su Yuanyuan returned home to deliver money to two families, paying them eight dimes per pound.

”Girl, there are a few more families to divide the remaining meat. It’s all lean. I’d say it’s worth four dimes; will Old Yang want it?”

”Yes, Aunt, I can’t show up myself. Just bring it over for me.”

At dinner, Hu Chunhua brought Su Yuanyuan about two hundred pounds of lean meat; it was truly all lean.

”Aunt, here’s eighty dollars. I’ll cover it for now, you can bring it tomorrow since I don’t know when Old Yang and the others will arrive.”

”No need to cover it, I’ll come over to collect it tomorrow at noon.

Also, I’ll bring you some stewed offal in a bit.”

”Aunt, I don’t like offal. Oh, and tomorrow help Old Yang collect chickens, ducks, and geese. Make sure they’re all slaughtered, and we’ll take as many eggs as there are.”

”Alright, I understand. I’ll ask tomorrow. I’ll bring you some pig’s head meat then.” Hu Chunhua said, then pushed the cart and left. Old Yang had helped so much, so she’d definitely do this little favor.

Su Yuanyuan first took out the nine wild boars. Last night, they had already hardened, so releasing them now was safe. She started a fire; there was still a lot of pig’s blood in the space. She made it into blood tofu, planning to sell it tomorrow. There was too much in the space, and she didn’t really want to eat it herself anymore.

An hour later, Yang Xue brought over half of a pig’s head. It looked fine and smelled good too.

She worked busily until the evening, finally turning all the pig’s blood into blood tofu.

The ewe had already been in the space for three days. Su Yuanyuan released it and saw it looking at her in confusion.

Seeing nothing unusual, she was relieved.

She placed the pig’s blood outside. If Old Yang wanted it, she’d give it to him; if not, she’d sell it at the market tomorrow. The commune wasn’t officially established yet, so she needed to sell them quickly.

She fed the sheep, fed herself, and then went into the space to take a bath.

Old Yang arrived at a little past one in the morning, this time with two horse-drawn carts.

The carts drove directly into the courtyard. Old Yang’s four apprentices began unloading.

”Girl, let’s settle the price by size. I’ll give you four hundred dollars per wild boar.”

”Uncle Yang, thanks a lot.”

”No problem at all,” Old Yang handed money to Su Yuanyuan. It was a total of thirty-six hundred dollars.

Su Yuanyuan didn’t stand on ceremony, counting it once. ”Uncle Yang, I still have a lot of blood tofu here. Take it back and share it with everyone.”

”Alright, I’ll send the buckets back to you tomorrow.”

”Okay, I’ll start collecting eggs for you tomorrow. The day after is the big market day, come to the house at noon to pick up.”

”Sure.”

”Uncle Yang, there’s been no snow so far this year. Do you think we’ll have a drought next year? The winter wheat doesn’t look as good as last year.”

”Indeed, there was only one snowfall this year. I guess I better store some grain.”

Two hours later, after sending Old Yang off, Su Yuanyuan lit the fire again and finally lay down in bed.

Feeling relieved, she slept until past eight in the morning.

She got up to feed the sheep and herself. She hadn’t taken a stroll around the village for a while. After tidying up, she went out.

She felt a sense of urgency permeating the village.

After making a round, she finally found Zhao Yanli.

”Xiao Li, does your family have any chicken, duck, or goose eggs for sale?”

”No, but Aunt Chunhua already told us that chickens, ducks, and geese can be slaughtered if there’s a buyer.”

”How much are you planning to sell?”

”We’re selling ten chickens and ducks, and three geese.”

”Is the village selling a lot?”

”Everyone is selling.”

The two girls chatted a bit more before Su Yuanyuan went to Hu Chunhua’s place, gave her the eighty dollars, and declined to stay for lunch.

Just as she was about to leave, Chunsheng came running in, ”Mom, Mom, Su Liangliang and they’re back.”

Only after a moment did Su Yuanyuan remember that Chunsheng was referring to this body’s brother.

”Su Daqiang and his wife are back too?”

”Yeah, three families came back. They’re all at Uncle’s house in the village.”

Su Yuanyuan stood up and headed out, ”Aunt, I’m going home first.”

”Okay, don’t worry, your uncle and I know what to do.”

Su Yuanyuan returned home, put away the ewe, and double-checked the items in the main room, feeling reassured.

She inspected the firewood room, finding only corn leaves, some branches, and hay left.

Su Yuanyuan then went to the west room to store the millstone, though she left the tools. She was waiting to ask them for payment after all, but she put away the mortar.

She only left out a basket and a cage. Everything else was stored away; the outdoor pen was also taken down, absolutely nothing would be left for them.
