Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 72: 72 sells pigs

Su Yuanyuan went to the grocery store and bought candles, toilet paper, and needles and thread.

She went to the restaurant where she had eaten last time and splurged on a serving of braised pork this time.

She thought a serving would be a plate, but to her surprise, it was a small basin with more than twenty pieces.

But the meat was really cooked well, much better than her own cooking.

She shamelessly bought three more servings and ran to the grocery store to buy a large enamel basin with a lid, filling it up completely. The chef saw that she bought a lot and also gave her a good amount of meat broth.

Su Yuanyuan really wanted to ask for their recipe, but she knew it was unethical and that she wouldn’t get an answer.

”Master, could you help me stew some pig offal? I’ll pay a processing fee.”

”Sure, if you clean it, it’ll be three yuan. If we clean it, it’ll be five yuan.

Don’t worry, we’ll make sure it’s cleaned thoroughly.”

It seemed like this wasn’t the first time the chef had done this, given his experience.

”I’ll bring it over later. Is it still five yuan for a set of pig offal?”

”Of course, it’s for a set.”

”Understood. I’ll definitely come find you. How about the braised meat? Like the one I bought?”

”That’s also three yuan.”

”Okay, I got it.”

Su Yuanyuan put the enamel basin into the basket and on the way, put the basin into her space. She found basins like this very handy. She went back to the grocery store and bought three large ones and three medium ones.

”Girl, in three days it’s your market day, on that day I’ll bring back the pigs for slaughter, two pigs for four hundred yuan.”

”Uncle Yang, is that too much?”

”No worries, I got you a good price. They want everything, even the pig blood.”

”Alright, I got it. I’ll slaughter the pigs early in the morning the day after tomorrow.”

Su Yuanyuan went home, put down her things, and went to find Yang Minggang.

”Uncle, I need to slaughter the pigs the day after tomorrow, all three of them. Today I went to the county and talked to Blacksmith Uncle Yang about the pigs, and he wants them all.”

”All of them?”

”Yes, I don’t want to sell pork in the village, and people might not want to buy our pork. Since Uncle Yang wants it, I’ll just give them all to him.”

”How much is he giving you per pound?”

”It’s by the head. Two heads for four hundred, and I plan to sell the remaining one in the county.”

”Alright, your Aunt and I will come over at four in the morning the day after tomorrow.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, the fewer people who know, the better.

This relieved Su Yuanyuan. With fewer pigs, it just left the chickens, ducks, and geese. Honestly, she really couldn’t bear to sell the chickens and ducks.

There are twenty chickens and twenty-two ducks, none have skipped a day, there are always chicken and duck eggs to collect. But she wanted to go out and have a look around, so keeping them wasn’t realistic.

Su Yuanyuan knew how to slaughter chickens herself, and the colder it got, the fewer eggs were laid. Better to slaughter them for meat. She would raise more next year.

Once she made up her mind, after the pigs were slaughtered, she’d start slaughtering chickens, ducks, and geese, leaving none behind.

As for the sheep, she would keep the ewes because they had helped her so much, she couldn’t bear to sell them.

The young sheep were already half-grown, so selling them now was also possible. Selling the sheep would be left for last.

As for the ewe, she would entrust it to Hu Chunhua, just one sheep should be manageable.

In these few days, Su Yuanyuan gathered things into her space.

On the day of the pig slaughter, Su Yuanyuan got up an hour earlier to boil water. She knew boiling water was definitely needed for pig slaughter.

Furthermore, Yang Minggang had already set up the frame yesterday.

Luckily, this place was far from the village, otherwise slaughtering pigs at midnight would disturb many people.

The pig blood was made into blood tofu by Hu Chunhua. Yang Minggang worked very quickly and was indeed capable.

But the three of them worked until after nine o’clock before they started dividing the pork, fortunately, it was only one pig to divide.

”Uncle, save me more meat on the ribs.”

Yang Minggang deliberately saved more meat, but Su Yuanyuan still felt it wasn’t enough, ”Uncle, leave more meat on the half side too.”

They worked until eleven before finishing.

Su Yuanyuan gave the lard to Hu Chunhua, ”Aunt, if you don’t take it, I’ll have to pay you.

Also, take this piece of meat and half of the pig blood for yourself.”

Hu Chunhua already knew this girl’s nature.

”I’ll take the lard and the pig blood, but I won’t take this meat, just the piece from the neck is enough for me, it’s still five or six pounds.”

Hu Chunhua meant that Su Yuanyuan should keep the good meat to sell.

Su Yuanyuan didn’t disagree, she understood Hu Chunhua’s intention.

It was lunchtime, there was no one outside, and the couple took the good stuff home with them.

Su Yuanyuan closed the door, put away the sorted meat and ribs, checked to make sure only two pigs were left, and felt relieved.

Old Yang and the others would only come after the market. So she took the chance to knead dough and chopped about three pounds of meat, added green onions, and made meat pies for lunch.

She had just started making the meat pies when Old Yang and the others arrived. There wasn’t much left on the carriage, and the pork from the two pigs fit perfectly.

”Uncle Yang, unload the cart, have lunch before you go,” she invited them to eat since she had also eaten at their place before, so it was only fair.

”Sure, what’s for lunch?” Old Yang said with a smile.

”Meat pies, Uncle Yang, I didn’t use someone else’s meat, but from the pig I kept for myself.”

Old Yang smiled. He saw the four sides of pork in the yard and the two buckets next to them filled with offal.

”I’ll help you with the fire,” Old Yang’s eldest apprentice said with a smile.

Meat pies, looking at the meat filling that only had green onions, they must be very fragrant.

Su Yuanyuan was particularly skilled at making meat pies, with thin crusts and lots of filling; the blacksmith’s ability to master the heat was excellent. So an hour later, the three of them sat on the heated brick bed to eat.

Su Yuanyuan also brought over some garlic and a bowl of egg soup.

”Girl, you’re really skilled.”

”Hehe, it’s all meat, anyone’s cooking would taste good.”

”Girl, are you selling your chickens, ducks, and geese?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”Yes, I’m selling them. I plan to go out in the winter to make some money. Just relying on farming doesn’t earn much.”

”Hehe, where are you planning on going?”

”I don’t know yet, Uncle Yang, I don’t have a destination.”

Some things couldn’t be said yet. It wasn’t the right time.

”I’ll give you two yuan for each chicken or duck and three for each goose. I’ll take them all today.”

”Alright, Uncle Yang, these chickens and ducks lay eggs very frequently.”

”What about the sheep?”

”I’ll keep the ewe; I need her for farming next year. I’ll sell the rest.”

”And that big ram too?”

”Sell it. Actually, I can’t bear to; it did all the mill work for us. No, I won’t sell this lamb, I’ll keep one ram for hauling the mill next year.”

Su Yuanyuan thought that each one was useful. She couldn’t bear to let them go. But keeping them was a difficult matter; Su Yuanyuan felt she should go out and gather more good things.
