Chapter 521: Chapter 521: On Deadpool’s Sense of Shame

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Right! Animal nature and human nature are two different concepts; you can’t consider animal nature a type of human nature! The innate tendencies we’re born with, I think, are more animalistic than human. Because only after animal instincts are reformed and redirected can they be called human nature.

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Sister Konan, this is the first time I’m hearing this theory. I don’t think I’ve ever distinguished between animal nature and human nature like this before.

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: I think what Konan said makes a lot of sense. I also believe that only actions against our natural instincts can be considered human nature. For example, my past acts of killing were the animalistic indulgence of my inner desire to kill.

Lazy Kitten: Well, well, Sister Mochou, you’re giving a personal account, aren’t you?

Machete Girl: So now, do we need to re-educate these nobles and help them find their humanity?

This is an Actor: It’s unnecessary. They can never regain their humanity. Besides, sins must ultimately be paid for. And the afterlife and modern society are fundamentally different. To make the common people’s stance mainstream and dominant, privilege-based thinking must be radically reformed.

Doujin Artist: Because the idea of privilege is so deeply ingrained here, we need severe measures to make everyone change this fixed way of thinking?

This is an Actor: Yes, you can understand it that way.

Doujin Artist: I see.

Eriiri took a deep breath and waved her hand.

Thump, thump, thump.

The platforms beneath the nobles’ feet were pulled away, and ropes, hung around their necks, lifted them high. These nobles, with their hands tied behind their backs and suspended in the air, struggled desperately but were utterly unable to escape their fate of death.

The crowd erupted in an uproar.

The onlookers surrounding them clapped and cheered at the sight. Some were even moved to tears of joy. They truly never expected to see such wicked nobles hanged in their lifetime.

”This is truly... astonishing...” Claire murmured, watching the jubilant crowd below.

”Now do you understand why Mr. Grim Reaper orchestrates such absurd scenarios?” Ashley, standing beside her, smiled and asked. ”I remember you found it difficult to comprehend back then, saying it didn’t align with the Empire’s laws?”

”It, it doesn’t align at all.”

”Even though it breaks the Empire’s laws, do you think this is still a good outcome?”

”I...” Claire faltered, falling silent. Justice had been served, and the people’s righteousness had been vindicated. This was certainly a good outcome, but it also conflicted with what she had long upheld.

This feels quite awkward.

”I think you understand now that the Empire’s laws aren’t all-powerful.”

Ashley didn’t push her further and instead said, ”Laws are rules, and such rules only protect the interests of those in power. So, who are the powers that be in this country? Is it these simple folk we see?”

Claire fell silent again, lost in a long, wordless contemplation.

”Your deeply held beliefs should also be completely re-evaluated,” Ashley said, looking into the distance. ”If you don’t overturn old ways of thinking, how can you embrace the dawn?”

Her words seemed to be advising Claire, but how were they not also directed at herself?

As a former Imperial magistrate, an enforcer of legal rules, she too had once believed the Imperial laws were just and fair. But looking back now, she realized she had been terribly, outrageously wrong.

This so-called justice and fairness were only relatively fair among nobles. This fairness wasn’t extended to the common people; instead, it was a cage for their minds.

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: Why give those beasts preferential treatment and try to re-educate them? Will beasts change themselves? Can they change? That’s clearly impossible, absolutely impossible! It’s like trying to cure Tony’s athlete’s foot; it’s all nonsense!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: You have some nerve saying that...

Machete Girl: Forget it, I can’t be bothered to comment on Mr. Deadpool anymore. He’s a criminal himself, yet he’s being hypocritical.

Doujin Artist: But Tony has athlete’s foot? You know about this?

Curly-haired Guy: No need to ask, this guy definitely sniffed it up close!

Lazy Kitten: Pfft, sniffed it! What kind of scene is that? Even a master of drawing manga might not be able to depict it!

Doujin Artist: Can’t draw it, really. When it comes to imagination, you have to look at Gin.

Amegakure Village’s Angel: Deadpool and Thor finished their fight, who won?

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: Do I even need to answer that? Would a super macho man like Uncle lose? How could you even think I’d lose?

Lazy Kitten: Super macho man, my foot. Can you be any more ridiculous?

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Wait, what happened to letting Thor have Thanksgiving? It’s over already, did he give thanks?

Machete Girl: Right! At least, he should sing a song of thanks to you, shouldn’t he?

Lazy Kitten: Hahahaha! Thanks to you, the seasons are warm... If I wasn’t a cat, I’d be belting out a couple of lines for you!

This is an Actor: Soon. The Animagus transformation should be ready in two days.

Lazy Kitten: Yay!

Scarlet Lotus Fairy: Congratulations Lolo, you can become human again.

Doujin Artist: Congratulations, congratulations. You should sing this song to Anzen then.

This is an Actor: No thanks needed.

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: We were almost there, about to let him experience Thanksgiving, but that butt-hurting guy got in the way! Meddling jerk, spit!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: They were clearly doing it for your own good, and you’re still cursing them. You guys couldn’t decide on a winner anyway, what was the point?

Machete Girl: Exactly. And besides, we have a common enemy now.

Foul-Mouthed Mask Guy: Look, guys! I didn’t start this, this dog first attacked Uncle! You all know Uncle always prefers peace. But Uncle is never afraid of trouble, whether he’s Thor or Thanos!

Shark-Faced Guy: A very important question, Mr. Deadpool. How do you spew so much nonsense with a straight face? Do you truly have no sense of shame at all?
