Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1837: Chapter 1836: One Mountain Cannot Hold Two Tigers

Women aren’t allowed to take showers, comb their hair, eat spicy food, or get angry. Going out is out of the question.

Every day, she faces Duan Aihua’s endless nagging, she’s practically grown calluses in her ears.

When she’s bored, she calls An Hao to complain and have a chat.

Once An Hao had nearly sorted out her hospital matters, she bought several little outfits for the baby and headed to Tian Niu’s house.

As soon as she entered, she saw Gu Shuangshuang with a white towel wrapped around her head, holding the baby and nursing little Nannan.

”Wow, you look like you’re stealing land mines!” An Hao laughed so hard she bent over, unable to straighten her waist.

”Sis, can’t you have a little sympathy?” Gu Shuangshuang’s face was scrunched up like a bitter melon, ”You think I want this? At home, my mom is like Empress Dowager Cixi; we have to follow whatever she wants.”

”Oh? The Empress Dowager hasn’t left yet?” An Hao sat down next to Gu Shuangshuang and whispered.

”Nearly. She’ll leave once the confinement period is over! If she sticks around any longer, I’ll go crazy!” Gu Shuangshuang said through gritted teeth.

”Even Uncle Li can’t handle it?” An Hao laughed and asked.

”He became Tian Niu’s bodyguard when he came, but when it comes to postpartum practices, we have to listen to my mom! She’s so overbearing, truly overbearing!” Gu Shuangshuang seemed like a subjugated slave, constantly searching for ways to revolt.

”Once you’re done with confinement, who’s going to take care of you? Will you take care of the baby yourself? I think you’ll really have to give up your job.” An Hao said.

”I’m not like you. I’m a sparrow, you’re a swan goose. I just want to settle down and lead my little life.” Gu Shuangshuang gazed contentedly at her daughter and continued, ”My mother-in-law heard I had a baby, and she’s been clamoring to come take care of me! She’s traveling by train today, and Tian Niu is picking her up!”

”Your mother-in-law and your mom living under the same roof, are you sure that’s going to work?” An Hao started worrying about Gu Shuangshuang, ”Two tigers can’t live on the same mountain.”

”Isn’t this just a ploy to drive my mom away?” Gu Shuangshuang grinned slyly.

”And your mother-in-law and Uncle Li?” An Hao, since she arrived, had only seen Gu Shuangshuang and the baby.

”They’re out to buy groceries. We’re making a big meal for lunch today, so don’t leave!” Gu Shuangshuang urged An Hao to stay.

”No, I might as well head back. Your house is already lively enough, adding me will just make it...” An Hao thought it would be bustling and crowded.

”No way. It’s rare you come by, stay and talk to me properly. I’m not letting you leave.” Gu Shuangshuang tried her hardest to persuade An Hao and refused to let her go.

Helplessly, An Hao agreed.

Near noon, Duan Aihua returned, empty-handed, followed by two young female soldiers, one carrying green vegetables, the other holding fruits.

”It’s you?” Gu Shuangshuang was surprised, ”Welcome, welcome!”

”Sis-in-law. We just bumped into Aunt at the compound, and she pulled us along, sorry to disturb you.” Gan Tian, blushing, looked very embarrassed.

”No worries! My mom is really thoughtful, come sit down and have a rest.” Gu Shuangshuang invited them.

”No need. Sis-in-law, you rest, we’ll go to the kitchen with Aunt.” Gan Tian carried the basket toward the kitchen, Lin Miao followed suit.

Duan Aihua rolled up her sleeves and explained, ”We met on the way. Since they’ve helped Shuangshuang before, I invited them over for a meal as a little thank-you.”
