’Fuck! Why isn’t Silk Touch working on this bastard?!’

Kyle continued struggling desperately against Dylan’s chokehold, his strength rapidly fading as his eyes began to shut. He couldn’t understand it. Silk Touch had worked on everyone else without much trouble, yet it wasn’t doing anything to this bastard. He had touched Dylan multiple times, some of those contacts lasting even longer than necessary, but nothing had happened. Dylan simply resisted it.

The crooked bastard’s physical resistance was just too high.

Kyle’s lungs burned as he desperately tried to draw another breath, but Dylan’s arm was squeezing tighter around his neck. His other arm remained trapped inside the cast from the wrist Kyle had broken earlier, leaving Dylan to fight with only one usable arm. Yet even with just one arm, the bastard’s strength was overwhelming.

”Now, puncture this bastard... make sure to let him bleed and see what we’re going to do to his bitch while he bleeds to death,” Dylan said with a sinister laugh, ordering his remaining crony to finish him.

”Yes, boss!” the crony replied hesitantly.

’Fuck! No... This can’t end like this. Not just fucking yet!’

Kyle could barely keep his eyes open anymore, but he saw the crony approaching with the knife raised. The bastard suddenly accelerated, intending to plunge the blade deep into Kyle’s flesh.

Even while suffocating, Kyle forced his body to make one final struggle.

Then—

*SLICE!*

When Kyle had almost lost all hope, a knife came flying through the air and cut deeply across his cheek before falling onto the pavement.

”ARRGHH! MY FACE!”

Dylan cried out in pain and instinctively loosened his hold.

That was all the moment Kyle needed.

He immediately twisted himself free, stumbled several steps away, and dropped into a defensive stance while desperately sucking air into his lungs. His throat felt like it had been crushed, and his legs nearly gave out beneath him, but he forced himself to stay standing.

Dylan was still clutching his face.

”Yo-you dirty whore! You ruined my face!”

Kyle looked toward Lira.

The knife that had struck Dylan had come from the ground beside her. She had thrown it at him to force him to release Kyle.

”Kyle, I’m sorr—”

”Don’t apologize...”

Kyle interrupted her before she could finish.

”...because it isn’t you but us now!”

He stepped in front of her, his back facing her as though he had made a silent promise that nothing would get past him.

Lira stared at him from behind.

Even though Kyle’s clothes were dirty, his cheek was bleeding, and he was struggling to breathe properly, there was something strangely dependable about his back at that moment.

Dylan’s anger only grew.

”I’m going to kill both of you son of bitches!”

His face had been cut badly enough to leave a prominent wound across it. Whatever vanity he had possessed was now replaced by pure rage.

Kyle’s gaze dropped toward the knife lying on the road.

He picked it up.

He didn’t have much idea how to properly use a knife. He wasn’t trained in knife fighting, and the awkward spin he gave it was closer to something he’d seen in movies than anything practical. But he knew one thing.

A knife could make someone bleed, and right now, that was enough.

”I will make you swallow your own words!”

Kyle spun the knife in his hand, gripping it tightly.

’I need to knock that crony out first...’

His eyes shifted toward the remaining man.

’Then deal with this bastard because Silk Touch doesn’t work on him...’

The crony seemed to notice Kyle’s attention and immediately charged.

He swung his knife toward Kyle’s chest.

Kyle stepped aside, narrowly avoiding the blade, and caught the man’s wrist.

The crony tried to pull his hand back.

Kyle activated Silk Touch.

[Silk Touch activated.]

[The muscles at the point of contact have been temporarily relaxed.]

The man’s wrist suddenly went limp.

The knife slipped from his hand and hit the road.

Kyle didn’t waste the opening. He slammed his fist into the man’s jaw.

*BAM!*

”Khg!”

The crony stumbled, but Kyle grabbed his shirt and pulled him forward, smashing his forehead into the man’s face.

*BAM!*

Before he could recover, Kyle drove his knee into his stomach and followed with a hard punch to the side of his head.

*BAM!*

The crony collapsed onto the pavement.

Kyle stood there for a second, breathing heavily.

’That was easier than I expected.’

He immediately turned toward Dylan.

The crooked-faced bastard was already charging.

Kyle raised his knife just in time.

Dylan’s fist slammed into his forearm, the impact forcing Kyle backward.

*BAM!*

’Fuck!’

Kyle immediately realized the difference between Dylan and his men.

Dylan was still strong.

Very strong.

And the fact that he could fight like this with only one usable arm made it even more frightening.

Dylan swung another punch.

Kyle ducked underneath it and slashed across Dylan’s upper arm.

*SLICE!*

The blade opened a cut.

Blood began dripping down Dylan’s arm.

Dylan stared at it for a moment before looking back at Kyle.

”You little bastard!”

He charged again.

Kyle didn’t meet him head-on. He stepped backward and waited for an opening. When Dylan swung, Kyle moved aside and dragged the blade across his ribs.

*SLASH!*

”ARGH!”

Dylan stumbled.

Kyle immediately retreated.

’That’s what I need.’

He didn’t need to defeat Dylan in one exchange.

He needed to weaken him.

Dylan rushed him again, throwing a barrage of heavy punches with his single usable arm. Kyle dodged as best he could, but one caught him on the shoulder and another grazed his cheek.

*BAM!*

”Khg!”

Kyle gritted his teeth and slashed Dylan’s thigh.

*SLICE!*

Dylan’s leg suddenly faltered.

He cursed and stepped backward. His blood was now running from several wounds.

Kyle’s own breathing was becoming heavier as well, but he refused to stop. Every time Dylan attacked, Kyle avoided the worst of it and looked for another opportunity to cut him.

His arm, his side, his thigh, and his shoulder.

None of the wounds were deep enough to be immediately fatal. Kyle wasn’t trying to kill him.

He was trying to make him weaker.

Dylan’s movements gradually became slower.

His breathing became rougher. The strength behind his punches began to diminish.

Kyle noticed the difference.

’It’s working.’

Dylan roared and charged once more, but this time Kyle could read his movements more easily. He slipped past the punch and struck Dylan’s stomach with his fist before slashing across his side.

*BAM!*

*SLASH!*

”AAARGH!”

Dylan staggered.

Kyle followed with the handle of the knife, smashing it against the side of his head.

*BAM!*

Dylan nearly fell but managed to remain standing.

”You... fucking...”

He wiped the blood from his mouth.

Kyle raised the knife again.

”You should’ve stayed the fuck away from us.”

Dylan’s expression became murderous.

He charged with everything he had left.

Kyle waited until the last possible moment before stepping aside. Dylan’s punch missed, and Kyle cut across his back.

*SLASH!*

Dylan screamed.

His body stumbled forward.

Kyle immediately moved around him and struck his injured thigh again.

*SLASH!*

Dylan dropped to one knee.

For several seconds, neither moved.

Kyle was exhausted. His cheek was still bleeding, his palm was cut, and his entire body ached from the beating he’d taken. But Dylan looked considerably worse.

Blood had soaked through his clothes.

His breathing was ragged.

His movements had become sluggish.

Kyle stared at him.

’Now...’

He remembered Silk Touch.

The reason it had failed before was obvious now.

Dylan had been too strong and too resistant.

But Kyle had spent the last few minutes gradually taking that strength away.

Dylan suddenly forced himself back onto his feet and swung at Kyle with his remaining good arm.

Kyle ducked and caught his wrist.

Dylan tried ripping his arm away, but his strength was noticeably weaker than before.

Kyle pressed his palm against the man’s wrist.

’Silk Touch.’

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then Kyle felt the muscles beneath his palm loosen.

His eyes widened.

[Silk Touch activated.]

[The muscles at the point of contact have been temporarily relaxed.]

’It worked.’

Dylan’s fingers suddenly lost their strength.

He tried pulling his arm away, but his weakened wrist couldn’t respond properly.

Kyle twisted out of his reach and shoved him hard in the chest.

*BAM!*

Dylan staggered backward.

His injured leg failed to support him.

He tried catching himself, but his good arm had just been weakened by Silk Touch, leaving him unable to stop his fall.

His balance disappeared completely.

”Fuck... you...”

Dylan’s knees buckled.

*THUD!*

Dylan collapsed onto the ground.
