The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss

Chapter 527: A Horribly Insignificant Function

”...” I realize I’m back in the Abyss in an instant. I look at my body, once again in its true form. Being ten meters tall in this shape is somewhat strange, and the fact that I lack a head remains uncomfortable.

”Now... what I must do hasn’t changed, right?” I still have to go after my mother. Having met the Primordial Goddess, or rather, having been pulled in by her, didn’t change much in my life. It only explained a few things and helped with some doubts.

”Take her place, right... she didn’t deny it, but she didn’t confirm it either...” I think about that part, which seems the most important. It’s true my race has infinite potential, but to have the power to match an omnipotent being?... I’m not sure I can reach that level.

”Well, having omnipotence wouldn’t be bad... but it seems tedious...” With omnipotence, I could no longer live among everyone. I would become like her, a sort of existential pillar that can no longer physically interact with the world because a being of such power has to be careful with its actions.

’Considering the directions, I think I know where to go...’ I begin to float in the direction I must head. In my current form, my body possesses some kind of natural levitation, negating the need for wings, though if I used wings I would fly more quickly.

”Considering the power of the Doom element and my current level... I think I could kill beings up to 3 billion levels above me, paying a heavy but more acceptable price...” I think this precisely to be prepared, since there are servants of my mother who have that level.

I won’t let anyone else use my body anymore. The years I had to lose to that are enough. Now that I have power, I have to take better care of the image I should project. I already eliminated the two damn ones who did that to me, so I have a ”clean slate” here in the Abyss again.

”I wonder if my mother has noticed me yet?” I accelerate my movements more and more. Because of that fucking tentacled bitch, I now know the direction to some of my mother’s servants, so I’m heading for a specific one.

”And how is my older sister faring?” I’m genuinely curious about how her stay here in the Abyss is going! I’m sure she must be doing much better than me.

...

...

...

”M-Mother, I’m happy to see you again...” I say with a racing heart as I bow to the Goddess of the Abyss, overjoyed to see her again after so long. I finally managed to find her.

”Azraelith... Haaa...” My mother lets out an obvious sigh of disinterest towards me, making me shrink back. It seems nothing has really changed.

”Considering how long it’s been since you arrived in the Abyss, don’t you think you took too long to find me?”

”...I... I’m sorry for the delay... but Pandora hasn’t arrived yet!!!” This is so unfair to me. Pandora hasn’t even gotten here yet! I was the first.

”When Pandora arrived in the Abyss, her power was around level 150,000. You, when you arrived in the Abyss, I bet you used a phased release to jump your level to something stable and high, didn’t you?”

”...”

”I was keeping an eye on both of you, and I still am. It’s true Pandora is in a worse situation than you, but unlike you, who already had that power, Pandora has already surpassed level 500 million, and even managed to use her true form completely stably.”

”And you, Azraelith, can you use your true form stably?”

”...No...”

”Clearly not. Because you’re as pathetic as ever. It’s ridiculous for you to try and say anything about Pandora not having arrived here yet. Pandora is much younger, more inexperienced, and weaker than you.”

”And yet, she already knows how to use her true form. Quite a big difference, isn’t it?” Her harsh words make a few tears run down my face.

”I’m sorry, Mother... I... was wrong to compare myself to Pandora...”

”Tsk, you incompetent fool. Do you know how pathetic it is to see my eldest daughter trying to compare herself to a weak younger sister who doesn’t even have 2% of your age?”

”Your body is over 10,000 years old, and your mind is over 5 million years old from staying in environments where time passes differently. Pandora is practically a baby compared to you.”

”Do you really, seriously, need to compare yourself to someone so young to try and prove your worth?”

”...”

”Why did you come here?” she asks severely.

”I-I thought that... since Pandora is now the Demon King and will help you fulfill your wishes... I could help you with anything else... It can be anything, as long as I can help...”

”Pfff... hahahahahahaha” She laughs at me, her laugh of pure mockery making me feel small and weak.

”Do you know how ridiculous what I’m hearing now is? Is this for real? Honestly, the only reason I don’t regret creating you is because you served to make Pandora better when I created her.” Hearing her say that makes me gasp in pain, as if my heart is shattering into pieces.

Hearing my mother say she only doesn’t regret having me because having me helped her make her favorite daughter better is so painful.

”I-I’m glad I was useful...” I say with a broken voice. This is so infuriating. I tried so hard for her love, and Pandora achieves it practically without even trying.

”There is absolutely nothing in which you are useful to me now, Azraelith. I don’t need servants, and I certainly don’t need a lapdog. You are truly... useless.”

”...”

’Should I kill myself now that my life is no longer useful?’ I seriously consider it. Considering my usefulness is over and I only bring shame to my mother, perhaps I should kill myself and let the favorite daughter fulfill her wishes.

”But... Azraelith, there actually is one thing you can do. Not necessarily for me, but it would help me, and it would elevate you from useless to at least something truly useful. And it’s a function that can be performed forever, so your usefulness in this role would never end.”

”W-What must I do?” I ask hopefully. A function where I will be eternally useful to my mother? It’s like a dream finally coming true.

”How good that you’re excited. Your function is simple. Impregnate Pandora, that is, get impregnated by Pandora.”

”...” When she says that, I feel a new level of emotional pain, as if something has truly broken permanently inside me.

”T-That... I-I think I misunderstood...”

”Tsk, so on top of being useless you’ve become stupid now? It’s so obvious. I want grandchildren. Strong grandchildren who inherit the perfect genetic legacy. Pandora has already given me several grandchildren, but they are all hybrids, and while hybrids are good for having multiple talents...”

”A pure Tenebris Abyssus retains the entire genetic framework I created. Hybrids are good but have one flaw: they lose the genetic framework I worked so hard to create. They become more volatile and free.”

”But a Tenebris Abyssus born from two parents of the same species would maintain the genetics I created for them. Your function will simply be to help propagate the purity of this race that has so few members.”

”...But... my younger sister... that’s...” This is so humiliating. I feel like tearing Pandora apart. It’s not enough that she took everything from me, that she stole any chance of my mother loving me. Now, the very fact that Pandora exists is reducing my existence to a mere broodmare.

”Azraelith, it seems you don’t understand. Your feelings don’t matter. You must do what I ordered you to do. Don’t make me have to kill you. If it’s not for producing high-purity offspring, then you are simply useless.”

”...I understand...”

”Excellent. But I don’t want it to be abrupt. Besides, Pandora doesn’t seem to have much romantic interest in you. So you must handle the approach and make Pandora fall in love with you. Don’t forget, Azraelith, your only function is to impregnate Pandora or be impregnated by Pandora as many times as possible. It can take as long as necessary, so take your time.”

”And the easiest path is to make Pandora fall in love with you, which shouldn’t be difficult, considering Pandora seems to adore having an older sister.”

”Do you understand your mission?”

”...Yes, Mother... I... must make Pandora love me... and have children with her...” I bite my lips so hard that blood begins to trickle and drip onto the floor. I can’t help but feel hatred for Pandora.

I can’t believe that after trying so hard for my mother, all I get is the chance to be a breeding animal forever. If my function is only that, wouldn’t dying be better?

But I must not disobey Mommy. It’s better to just go along with it, even though I know how unfair all of this is to me, especially because Pandora already has several wives and even a husband, so I would just be another one in that relationship with her, not even someone special.

”Good that you understand, Azraelith. Now you can wait right here in my city. Pandora should arrive here at some point. I can’t wait for her to come!! I already have many things planned to teach Pandora!!” She speaks of Pandora with so much joy in her voice.

”May I go?”

”Of course, of course, go away. And don’t come bother me until Pandora arrives! I’m busy making preparations to welcome my beloved daughter!” She doesn’t even try to hide how much she adores Pandora.

”...” I stand up, turning around with tears in my eyes as I leave. Because even though this is one of the most unfair things of all, I still must do it. Because it’s my mother’s request, even though deep down I hate Pandora profoundly.

Because this shows how unfair existence is. Pandora is loved just for existing, and I need to be useful all the time just to try and seek a tiny fraction of that love, and even then, I almost never get any of it.
