Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees

Chapter 48: Chapter 47: The Wild Ambition of 10,000 Daily Orders

Innovation Park, Room 206.

Song Yuncheng sat at her desk, her eyes fixed on the product information on the screen. She moved the mouse with one hand while scribbling notes in a notebook.

She would occasionally pause her pen, looking thoughtfully at the page’s sorting order.

Her long, soft hair, like a waterfall, was tied into a simple ponytail. A stray strand rested on her cheek, trembling slightly with her movements.

”Hey, still here? Trying to scam me for overtime pay again?”

A teasing voice suddenly sounded from behind her. Song Yuncheng jumped in fright and shot up from her seat instinctively.

THUD!

Song Yuncheng’s head slammed right into Chen Yansen’s chin, the pain causing her to suck in a sharp breath.

”Do you walk without making a sound? You scared me! Ugh, that really hurts,” Song Yuncheng demanded, glaring fiercely.

”Are you deaf? My footsteps were plenty loud! Your head is as hard as a rock. Quick, see if I’m bleeding.”

Chen Yansen cursed, frowning. The strong, metallic scent of iron filled his nostrils.

Hearing this, Song Yuncheng stood on her tiptoes to look and saw a patch of blood seeping from Chen Yansen’s lip.

Realizing she had been zoning out, she figured it really was her fault. She shrank back guiltily and forced a dry laugh. ”It’s just a small cut. Are you okay?”

”Why don’t you let me bite you, and you’ll find out?” Chen Yansen retorted irritably, rolling his eyes.

”I... I won’t do that.”

Song Yuncheng took a step back, suddenly on guard like a cornered stray cat.

”Hah! Who’d want to kiss you? It’s so late, why aren’t you back in your dorm? You think my electricity is free?”

Chen Yansen wiped his mouth with a tissue, then plopped down into Song Yuncheng’s chair and casually picked up her notebook.

”Categories: Home Goods, Food, Cosmetics, Digital Appliances...”

”Sorting Logic: Taobao Network monthly sales, our site’s daily sales...”

”...”

The notebook’s contents were Song Yuncheng’s compiled logic for product selection. It looked messy and disorganized, a hodgepodge of disconnected ideas.

”You’re a UI designer. What are you doing organizing all this?” Chen Yansen asked, staring at her curiously.

”I know that even though you hired me, my design skills aren’t as good as a junior or senior in college. I just wanted to learn a little more and take on more work.”

Song Yuncheng explained slowly with her head down, after a long moment of hesitation.

”I’m not the kind of boss who fires people for no reason,” Chen Yansen said, slightly taken aback. His tone softened.

”I want to earn money with my own abilities,” Song Yuncheng said, lifting her head. Her expression was firm, with a hint of stubbornness.

With her face bare of makeup, the corners of her eyes were slightly red. It seemed that whenever she got emotional, a faint pink blush would spread across her cheeks.

Chen Yansen wanted to laugh, but after a sigh, he managed to hold it back. He pointed to the stool beside him and said, ”Sit over here. I’ll teach you the logic behind product selection.”

Song Yuncheng froze, not processing his words for a moment. Her dazed look was much cuter than usual.

”Do you want to learn or not?” Chen Yansen urged, raising his voice.

”Oh, yes, I’ll learn,” Song Yuncheng said, obediently sitting down right next to Chen Yansen.

Perhaps because they were so close, a faint, pleasant scent filled the air.

Chen Yansen took a deep breath and said, ”What body wash do you use? It smells nice. I’ll buy a bottle for my girlfriend later.”

Hearing this, Song Yuncheng’s heart trembled, and her skin inexplicably felt itchy. She bit her lip and changed the subject. ”I’m ready. You can teach me about product selection now.”

Chen Yansen smiled and didn’t tease her further. ”Start with a single category, like cosmetics,” he began. ”The first step isn’t to look at baseline monthly sales, but to understand brand influence based on market ratings. Only then can you drill down to specific products...”

After that, Chen Yansen taught her several methods for ranking brands, the popular categories and items for each season, and how to gradually increase the average order value and gross profit based on existing order data.

As Song Yuncheng listened, her gaze unconsciously drifted to Chen Yansen’s face. Looking at his sharp, well-defined features and his lips, which seemed perpetually curved in a slight smile, her heart suddenly softened. ’If only he didn’t have a girlfriend,’ she thought to herself.

Immediately, Song Yuncheng was startled by her own thought. She shook her head forcefully, trying to refocus on Chen Yansen’s lesson.

”Tomorrow, you can try selecting some products. Write down the product IDs so it’s easier to track their sales data later. After a few months of practice, you’ll barely be ready to go it alone.”

Chen Yansen cleared his throat, took a sip of water, and concluded with a smile.

”Just *barely* ready?” After listening to him for so long, Song Yuncheng had thought this method would at least make her qualified to be a category operations manager.

”There’s a lot more to it. I’ll explain it all to you slowly when I have time. To be a good category operations manager, you need to understand industry trends, brand distribution, and even a product’s raw materials and manufacturing process. You think you can learn years of accumulated knowledge in just a few hours?” Chen Yansen said bluntly, pursing his lips.

”Chen Yansen, thank you!”

Song Yuncheng looked directly at Chen Yansen. ’Why is it that we’re around the same age, but he knows so much?’ she wondered. ’I really want to crack his head open and see what’s inside.’

”Since you now understand the skills needed for product selection, write up a job posting during the holiday. We’ll start by hiring three product operations specialists. You’ll be in charge of them.”

Chen Yansen opened his mouth and assigned Song Yuncheng another task.

”Okay, I’ll send it to you as soon as possible,” Song Yuncheng readily agreed.

”It’s getting late. I’m going back to get some sleep.”

Chen Yansen glanced at the time and got up to leave.

”Oh my god! It’s so late! I probably... can’t get back again.” Seeing the time on her computer—11:10 PM—Song Yuncheng slapped her forehead and immediately despaired.

”Just make do here for the night,” Chen Yansen said with a grin, pointing at the floor of Room 206.

”But I haven’t showered yet,” Song Yuncheng muttered under her breath, her head lowered.

”You’re always sleeping over at my place. What if your boyfriend finds out and comes looking for trouble? After all, you said he could take on ten of me,” Chen Yansen refused her before she could even ask.

”I don’t have a boyfriend! Did you know that all along? Is that why you’re always teasing me?”

Song Yuncheng’s face flushed red. She clenched her small fists and asked aggressively.

”Huh? Really? But I have a girlfriend!” Chen Yansen said, waving his hand dismissively as he walked out without looking back.

”Boss, I’m your employee!” Song Yuncheng whined pitifully, hurrying after him.

In the end, the two of them walked into Room 0418 together.

After entering and changing into slippers, Chen Yansen casually asked, ”You want to shower first, or should I?”

”Of course, you first, Boss.”

Song Yuncheng giggled, then walked over to the sofa and expertly cleared away the cushions, tidying up her temporary little nest.

Chen Yansen paid her no mind, going about his own business of brushing his teeth and showering. Soon, he emerged from the bathroom wrapped in a towel.

”Couldn’t you have put on pajamas before coming out?” Song Yuncheng glanced at him. She saw his tall, well-built figure—broad back, narrow waist, long legs, and clearly defined muscles on his arms. She only spoke after a few seconds of silence.

”This is my house! I can walk around naked if I want,” Chen Yansen said disdainfully. As he spoke, he yanked off his towel, making her shriek.

Song Yuncheng covered her face and turned away. ”Chen Yansen, believe it or not, I’ll tell Meng Jie.”

”Tell her what? That you’re sleeping in my room in the middle of the night?” Chen Yansen retorted with a roguish grin, now wearing a pair of baggy shorts.

”...”

Song Yuncheng was speechless, unable to come up with a reply.

Seeing that she didn’t dare turn around, Chen Yansen walked up and leaned close to Song Yuncheng’s ear. ”I’m dressed now. You can turn around and look if you don’t believe me.”

Song Yuncheng kept her eyes squeezed shut and shook her head frantically, not believing him at all.

”You still haven’t answered me. What body wash do you use? It smells so good.” Seeing her frozen in place, he simply rested his hand on her waist and asked, pressing close against her.

”I... I use bar soap.”

Song Yuncheng was flustered. For a moment, she stood rooted to the spot, letting Chen Yansen’s hand slide across her waist.

”Send me the link tomorrow.” Chen Yansen, knowing when to quit, pulled his hand back and turned to go back to his room.

Several minutes after Chen Yansen left, Song Yuncheng finally snapped out of it and collapsed onto the sofa. Her lovely, rosy face was now so red it looked like a drop of blood might well up at any moment.

The image of Chen Yansen’s hand moving on her waist kept replaying in her mind, the sensation like a branding iron.

Logically, she should have felt repulsed, but in reality, she didn’t.

Song Yuncheng sat there in a daze for a long time. It wasn’t until the chime of a clock announced the new hour after midnight that she scrambled off to the bathroom.

...

...

「The next day」

When Chen Yansen woke up, Song Yuncheng had already tidied up the sofa and left early.

Chen Yansen brushed his teeth, washed his face, got dressed, and ate breakfast in the cafeteria before heading to the Innovation Park.

He had arranged to meet Wang Zihao to teach him SEO and ad placement techniques. As soon as the voting event ended, they would launch the promotion plan.

Yesterday, he had told Tang Qingshan that he would get the website to 100,000 DAU by the end of the year. This wasn’t just empty talk; he really intended to make that figure the goal for the next phase.

”Morning, Brother Sen!”

”Morning, Boss!”

”Good morning, President Chen. I bought an extra breakfast. Have you eaten?”

The few tech staff members who were on duty all greeted him.

Chen Yansen nodded in response, politely declining the offered breakfast, and walked straight to his desk to sit down.

Across from him, Song Yuncheng was already at her desk. Her mouse was clicking away—CLICK, CLACK—as if she were either drawing or selecting products.

Chen Yansen called out to Hu Yun from the data team, ”Report yesterday’s user count and sales figures.”

”Brother Sen, as of September 30th, our cumulative registered users reached 83,612, with 59,184 new users yesterday. Yesterday’s sales were 41,015.3 yuan, with 1,281 orders, and a gross profit of 9,762.8 yuan...”

Hu Yun shot up from his seat and deliberately shouted the numbers at the top of his lungs.

Almost ten thousand in gross profit in a single day!

And the number of orders broke one thousand!

”Thank you all for your hard work! These results are faster and stronger than I anticipated! Next goal: ten thousand orders a day! If we hit it, everyone gets a raise!”

Chen Yansen announced loudly, pumping his fist.

”Brother Sen is awesome!”

Everyone’s face lit up with joy as they cheered in agreement. Although they had no idea when they’d get to eat this ”pie,” at least Chen Yansen was a boss willing to draw one for them.

Judging from last month’s overtime pay and bonuses, Chen Yansen was a man of his word.

Song Yuncheng watched the calm and confident Chen Yansen, her expression gradually growing complicated.

A short while later, Wang Zihao hurried over.

Chen Yansen led him into Room 208, and the two of them discussed SEO optimization techniques for the entire morning. Wang Zihao wasn’t unintelligent—he learned things quickly. It was only when compared to Prince Ziyuan that he seemed a bit clumsy.

”Long-tail keywords, backlink building, page optimization... Anyway, those are the core tricks. I’ve got them memorized,” Wang Zihao muttered, looking completely serious.

Chen Yansen clapped him on the shoulder. ”No rush. Take your time to study them.”

With that, he picked up the teacup from the table and walked back to Room 206.

At that exact moment, the cumulative number of registered users broke one hundred thousand!
