Chapter 34: Chapter 33: Class Monitor? Not Even a Dog Wants to Be It

Chen Yansen chuckled softly as he watched Song Yuncheng flee in embarrassment.

New students continued to pour in to register that morning. A long line formed at the telecom booth, full of students applying for campus SIM cards.

A few pretty first-years, who had already gotten their phone cards, lingered around Chen Yansen, asking about his relationship status.

”You’re asking such detailed questions. Are you trying to be my girlfriend?”

Chen Yansen was getting annoyed by the questions, so he decided to be direct.

Hearing this, most of the girls blushed and shook their heads frantically. The ones who had been the boldest before were now the most timid.

”Senior, I want to be your girlfriend. Should I make an appointment or get in line?”

Only one bold girl charmingly followed up.

Chen Yansen followed the voice and saw a tall girl. She was wearing a light green t-shirt paired with a fringed skirt, her long, soft hair casually tied up in a bun.

Her skin was so fair it almost glowed, and her features were delicate and lively. A tiny, sesame-seed-sized beauty mark by the corner of her eye added a unique charm.

”First, introduce yourself. Let’s see if we’re compatible.”

Who did they think Chen Yansen was?

He was the chairman of Feiyu Technology, CEO of the largest livestreaming company in Hu City. The female streamers and cosplayers he had ”evaluated” were countless. He wasn’t going to be intimidated by some young girl.

”My name is Su Meiling. I’m from Luzhou, a freshman in the journalism program this year. My date of birth is on that registration form you have.”

Su Meiling’s eyes curved into crescents and a smile played on her lips as she spoke with graceful confidence.

’A classmate?’

Chen Yansen was slightly taken aback. He squinted and sized her up again, but he had no memory of her. However, the name ”Su Meiling” felt somewhat familiar.

’That’s right!’

’In my past life, the Youth League Secretary of the ’10 Journalism class was named that!’

’And that son of a bitch Tang Zhenzhe had a crush on her for four years!’

”Sorry, junior. My mom told me not to date girls with the surname Su.”

Chen Yansen spread his hands, a helpless look on his face as he spoke.

As soon as he said this, the surrounding girls burst out laughing.

Su Meiling’s cheeks flushed slightly. Although she had been rejected, Chen Yansen’s reason was too absurd. She laughed and said, ”Then, Senior, could you ask your mom for me what surname she likes? If need be, I’ll just go to the Inspection Institute and change mine.”

”No problem! When I’ve figured it out, I’ll call and let you know.”

Chen Yansen made an ’OK’ sign with his hand. After that, he said no more and went back to work.

Seeing this, Su Meiling secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Though she seemed more mature than the average freshman, she was, in essence, just a new student. This was her first time making a move and she’d been shot down; it would be a lie to say it didn’t sting.

Then, she quietly left the crowd.

It wasn’t until 10 a.m. that Chen Yansen’s first ”roommate agent” arrived. Surprisingly, it wasn’t the ”know-it-all” Meng Xibo, nor the ”suit guy” Tang Zhenzhe, but rather the socially anxious-looking Song Yang.

’You’re a rich kid. Why are you trying to steal business from a bunch of poor students?’

Chen Yansen looked at him with a strange expression, muttering inwardly.

”Bro... Brother Sen, can’t I do it?”

Song Yang felt his heart pound under Chen Yansen’s gaze and asked timidly.

”Of course you can. But do you know where the Music Academy is? Which buildings are the girls’ dorms? Which cafeteria has the best food?”

Chen Yansen first nodded, then fired off a series of questions.

”I... I understand. Thank you, Brother Sen.”

Song Yang was left speechless. The enthusiasm in his eyes immediately vanished, and with his head hanging, he turned to go back to his dorm.

”What’s your hurry? What I mean is, if you want to sell these cards, you first need to get familiar with the campus. Otherwise, how are you going to talk to the first-years?”

Chen Yansen rolled his eyes and chided him irritably.

Next, he added the other’s QQ number and sent him a copy of the ”Xucheng Academy New Student Guide,” explaining, ”Memorize this within an hour. Let’s try to sell all these cards today.”

As he spoke, he handed Song Yang ten of the campus cards.

”Thank you, Brother Sen. I’ll memorize it right away.”

Song Yang was stunned for a moment, then the gloom on his face was swept away as he thanked Chen Yansen sincerely.

But this ”thank you” was clearly much more sincere than the one before.

After Song Yang left, Tang Zhenzhe, Zhu Xiaopeng, Meng Xibo, and Wang Zhengqiang finally arrived at a leisurely pace.

Chen Yansen didn’t waste words, giving them ten cards each. After all, they weren’t official orientation guides for their department and weren’t wearing the signature vests. Selling ten cards would be a pretty good result for them.

After 5 p.m., the foot traffic dropped sharply, and the orientation booths for the various departments became deserted.

”How’s it going? Are the final numbers in yet?”

Gu Wenwen stood behind Chen Yansen and asked eagerly.

”There are still 13 agents who haven’t replied. If they’ve sold all their phone cards, our new user activations for the past two days will be 4,160.”

Chen Yansen looked up, his tone calm but tinged with a hint of dissatisfaction.

The total number of new students at Xucheng Academy and Xucheng Health College was over 6,700. He had developed sub-agents and even forced Zhao Maolin to upgrade the campus card plans, yet he had only captured a little over 60% of the market share.

”You should be content. You made several hundred thousand in two days. That’s enough to buy two new apartments in downtown Xucheng. I’m the one with the tough life, running around for you, and I haven’t even earned a fraction of what you have.”

Seeing his dissatisfied expression, Gu Wenwen sighed and complained with a hint of bitterness.

”Buy two apartments? I can’t live in both of them! How about you live in one, Sister Wenwen?”

Chen Yansen said teasingly, a smile on his lips.

”What, are you trying to keep a mistress in a golden cage? How old are you, anyway!”

Gu Wenwen was so amused she giggled, her voluptuous figure trembling slightly.

”I’m eighteen.”

Chen Yansen deliberately leaned in closer to Gu Wenwen and replied in a low voice, his tone both husky and teasing.

”I was asking your age!”

A blush crept onto Gu Wenwen’s face. She took a step back and said loudly.

”I was talking about my age. What did Sister Wenwen think I was talking about?”

Chen Yansen blinked, asking back with an innocent expression.

”Stop! No one is to mention what just happened! Manager Zhao asked me to tell you he wants to meet you at Star of the Milky Way tonight at eight.”

Gu Wenwen knew she was no match for Chen Yansen, so she quickly called a halt and changed the subject.

”Tell Brother Zhao let’s do it tomorrow. I have a class meeting tonight.”

Chen Yansen thought for a moment and said with a faint smile.

”Alright, we’ll head out then. When you have time, come find me in the city. Big sis will treat you to dinner and karaoke.”

Gu Wenwen nodded and started packing up the materials, getting ready to leave.

Chen Yansen grunted in acknowledgment. After logging into QQ, he found a new group chat called ’8302’ in his list. It turned out that after Song Yang had added him, he had pulled the others in as well.

”Brother Sen, class meeting at 18:00. I heard we’re electing a class monitor. If you run, it’s in the bag,” Meng Xibo @’d Chen Yansen in the group.

”Brother Sen, there’s a guy named Li Wenhao in the dorm next door. He spent all afternoon going around ’visiting’ rooms to campaign for himself. You’d better watch out for him,” Zhu Xiaopeng added.

”Brother Sen, I’m at the classroom. I saved you a good seat,” Song Yang suddenly said in the group.

”@Song Yang, Yangyang, no wonder I didn’t see you when I went back to the dorm just now. Why didn’t you ask us to come along?” Zhu Xiaopeng questioned in the group.

”Class monitor? Not even a dog would want that job! @Tang Zhenzhe Ah Zhe, you interested? I’ll fully support you becoming the man in charge of the ’10 Journalism class.”

Chen Yansen typed out a message and sent it.

”???” Tang Zhenzhe didn’t know how to reply, so he just typed a few question marks.
