CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 1483: Chapter 1491: Can’t Bear It

The arrangements for Old Sir Sampton’s funeral were handled very discreetly. Yet, no matter how discreet, he was, after all, a war veteran—a Great General who had fought countless battles on the battlefield in his early years.

Granny Sampton hadn’t allowed Father Sampton to notify too many people about Old Sir Sampton’s passing. But such news, one person tells ten, ten tell a hundred—it inevitably spread.

What’s more, Julie Sampton had caused such a stir on Twitter regarding the matter of Old Sir Sampton being angered into the hospital. Those who visited him at the hospital after hearing about his illness ended up learning of his death.

In the end, the Sampton Family couldn’t keep it under wraps—no matter how low-key they wanted to be. News of Old Sir Sampton passing away at the hospital still made its way onto Twitter.

Despite the efforts to keep it understated, quite a number of people attended Old Sir Sampton’s funeral. The government sent representatives, and the guard team also arranged for members to attend as delegates.

James Black, as the grandson-in-law, accompanied Granny Sampton and Jane Sampson in receiving the guests paying their respects. Father Sampton and Mother Sampton had also been in low spirits over the past two days, yet they still forced themselves to manage the onslaught of reporters who had caught wind of the news.

After dealing with the news reporters, they also had to grit their teeth and handle the entertainment reporters who came for Julie Sampson. It took a great effort to prevent some unscrupulous junior entertainment reporters from barging into the Memorial Hall and disturbing Old Sir Sampton’s remains.

Throughout all this, Julie Sampson never once showed up.

Bright Sampton, who was living internationally, immediately booked a flight upon hearing the news. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, flight after flight was canceled for several days. This delay dragged on until the middle of the night on the day of Old Sir Sampton’s burial. At 4 a.m., after nearly twenty hours of transit and connecting flights, he finally returned home.

As for Julie Sampson, it wasn’t until Old Sir Sampton’s burial that she, too, appeared at the cemetery—arriving hurriedly alongside Bright Sampton.

Jane Sampson glanced at Julie Sampson, who was dressed in a black coat. She no longer even had the desire to look at her for another moment.

In this world, there couldn’t possibly be anyone as selfish and cold-hearted as Julie Sampson.

”It’s been four days since your grandpa was hospitalized because of you, and now you—the very culprit who angered him to death—can somehow still hold your composure, parading your false sincerity by showing up only now,” Granny Sampton remarked icily, casting a cold glare at Julie Sampson. She then waved to Bright Sampton, who stood behind Julie Sampson. ”Bright, come here. Stand by Grandma’s side.”

With reddened eyes, Bright Sampson walked past Julie Sampson and Jane Sampson, taking hold of Granny Sampton’s arm on one side, his voice choked with emotion. ”Grandma, I’m sorry I came back too late.”

”God’s toying with us; it’s no fault of yours,” Granny Sampson shook her head. Bright Sampson had wanted to return but was unable to, which was entirely different from how Julie Sampson had simply not wanted to come.

Granny Sampson was well aware that Bright Sampson’s flights had been repeatedly canceled due to international weather issues. In the end, he had to buy tickets for elsewhere and endure three connecting flights over more than twenty hours to make it back.

She knew full well the difficulty her grandson had gone through to rush home.

”Grandma...” Julie Sampson looked at the two people standing on either side of Granny Sampson and softly uttered, ”I’m sorry.”

”You don’t need to apologize to me. Your apology—I cannot accept,” Granny Sampson said with a cold smile. ”And don’t call me Grandma anymore. Julie Sampson, from this day forward, I am no longer your grandmother. Your grandfather and I, in this lifetime, have only one granddaughter and one grandson. One is Jane, and the other is Bright.”
