CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 1481: Chapter 1489: None of Your Business

Jane Sampson truly had no idea where things had gone wrong, nor why this path she was walking on ended up like this.

In her past life, Grandpa hadn’t been hospitalized at this time.

Yet in her past life, Julie Sampton and David Chip’s affair hadn’t been exposed.

In her past life, Nina Lee and David Chip hadn’t even broken off their engagement.

”If only I knew this matter would end up on the Twitter hot search, if only I knew it would anger Grandpa so much, I should’ve taken precautions yesterday.” Jane spoke as she buried her face in her hands and wept bitterly.

”I thought this wouldn’t blow up into a big deal,” Jane sobbed. ”I thought David Chip wouldn’t let this matter go public. I also thought Nina Lee wouldn’t want anyone to know about her private affairs with David Chip. I assumed the Chip Family and the Lee Family would negotiate in private for the sake of their companies’ reputations and do everything they could to suppress this story.”

Last night, when Jane was listening to Peter Gingery talk about Julie Sampton’s situation, at that time, she heard about how Nina Lee had hit Julie. Deep down, she thought Julie deserved it.

At that moment, she saw herself as a mere observer. But she hadn’t anticipated that, as she watched this drama unfold, she’d get pulled into it—and so did Grandpa.

As she watched, there was no way for anyone to escape anymore.

Suddenly, things that hadn’t happened in her past life struck like thunder, catching Jane completely off guard.

Jane even started to wonder if it was because of some shameful, selfish thoughts hidden in her heart that God was punishing her in this way.

Punishing her for being too greedy.

James Black, hearing Jane’s sobs, wrapped her tightly in his arms.

”It’s not your fault, and it has nothing to do with you.” Not only did James believe this, but Jane also agreed.

They both believed that even if Nina Lee wasn’t involved, the Chip Family would undoubtedly have tried to bury the story for the sake of David Chip and their company.

But no one expected the Chip Family to make no move at all.

James knew how much Grandpa Sampton and Granny Sampton meant to Jane, so he understood how deeply it shook her to see Old Master Black lying unconscious in the ward.

If she could, maybe, just maybe, she would rather it be herself lying in that hospital bed.

In James Black’s arms, Jane cried to the point where she could barely make a sound, until a waiter knocked on the door and entered with steaming porridge, casting a somewhat puzzled gaze at the woman crying in the arms of the male customer, even hesitating for a moment as if wondering whether to ask if the female customer needed any assistance.

James shot a glance at the waiter, who ultimately left the private room after some hesitation and closed the door behind them. Only then did James take a tissue and gently wipe away Jane’s tears.

”Now that you’ve cried, try to eat some porridge. After you’ve finished, we’ll pack some up to take back for Granny.” James scooped a small portion into a bowl, picked up the soup scoop, carefully blew on a spoonful to cool it, and brought it to Jane’s lips.

Her eyes still rimmed with tears, Jane opened her mouth to eat, then raised her gaze to James, sniffing back her emotions. ”I’m so lucky to have you by my side.”

Jane thought to herself, if James weren’t in her world right now, then her tears—these words bottled up in her heart—she wouldn’t know whom to share them with.

With no one to confide in, she’d be forced to bury everything deep inside her forever.

Including every single tear.

She wouldn’t dare to let even one drop fall.
