CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 1457: Chapter 1465: It’s Up to You

”She’s not going to work, you’re usually busy with work and don’t have time to take care of her, so let her continue staying here.” Granny Carter calmly sipped her tea, showing no concern for the matter, her eyes still fixed on the TV in front of her.

It was as if the TV programs were far more interesting than this topic.

”Daddy, Mother, I want to go home.” Jillian Carter’s voice was tinged with tears as she turned to tug at James Carter’s sleeve. ”Brother, could you ask Daddy and Mother to take me home, please? I know I was wrong. I’ll behave well in the future. When I’m home, I’ll work diligently. I won’t act recklessly. I promise I’ll listen.”

For Jillian, every day in the countryside felt as long as a year. Her mobile phone had been confiscated, she wasn’t allowed to leave the village, and she wasn’t permitted to use the computer in the house. Even if she wanted to use it, she’d have to seek permission from her grandparents first. Her daily activities consisted of watching TV or writing, drawing, and playing chess with the two elders.

It might be bearable for a few days, but this lifestyle had gone on for a long time, and Jillian Carter truly couldn’t take it anymore.

She wasn’t some elderly person ready for retirement, so why was she forced to live like an old man or an old woman in the countryside? Without the internet, her days passed in utter misery.

She often saw Jane Sampson on TV, even on the Spring Festival Gala, where Jane appeared in a stunning white dress, standing beside her brother.

Why did she have to live in such torment here, while Jane Sampson got to live so carefree?

Jillian didn’t even need internet access to guess that after the Spring Festival Gala, many people would be praising how beautiful Jane Sampson was.

Jane Sampson’s popularity was so high that even in the village, Jillian could hear uncles, aunties, and aunties-in-law talking about how wonderful Jane Sampson was. This eventually made Jillian Carter reluctant to even step outside the door anymore.

Whenever she went out and heard people speaking about how great Jane Sampson was, Jillian would feel a belly full of resentment.

She had been isolated in the village because of Jane Sampson, yet Jane was thriving.

Father Carter had considered taking Jillian away, but as he was about to speak, Granny Carter shot him a direct glance.

”Since you left her with me and your dad back then, it will be up to us to decide when she can leave,” Granny Carter said with a heavy tone. ”Alright, I know you’re all busy. You’ve stayed with me and your dad for a few days now, and we appreciate your filial piety. But it’s time for you to focus on your own work—you don’t need to stay here accompanying us any longer.”

”Mom...” Father Carter looked at his mother’s resolute expression and then glanced at Jillian’s reddened eyes. In the end, he conceded.

”I’m not in a hurry; I’ll stay here a bit longer with Grandpa and Grandma,” James Carter smiled faintly at the two elders. ”As long as Grandpa and Grandma don’t find me annoying, I’ll stay.”

”Suit yourself,” Old Sir Carter nodded. ”No rush to leave either. Tomorrow, we’ll all go fishing, and after that, at noon, your grandma will make you some fish soup to replenish yourself.”

Seeing this, Father and Mother Carter didn’t say any more. Father Carter indeed had work to attend to, so they stayed for about half an hour longer before leaving.

Jillian Carter, furious that her parents didn’t take her away, stormed upstairs to her room.

Granny Carter turned off the TV and went to the study with her husband. The two elders, whose hobbies were steeped in literary pursuits, spent their time writing, drawing, or reading books.
