CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 811: Chapter 819: This Appearance

Jane Sampson went to a charity dinner in the evening, so she had her makeup on. While washing her face after a nosebleed just now, she completely forgot about her makeup and roughly wiped her face with clear water twice.

Since James Black was standing by her side the whole time, she had been constantly embarrassed. After washing her face, she was led away by James without giving herself a second glance in the mirror.

Even if the mascara and eyeliner were waterproof, they couldn’t withstand her rubbing; the eyeshadow and eyeliner had already smudged disastrously. Moreover, given how James had just kissed her, her lips were swollen, and the lipstick had also smeared to the corners of her mouth, nose, cheeks, and so forth...

Wherever he had kissed, there were marks of lipstick.

Jane was falling apart inside; this was definitely the most embarrassing day of her life.

James approached Jane from behind with a mood full of good spirits, finding it rare and genuinely amusing to tease her like this.

The moment James entered, Jane saw him in the mirror. After he stood behind her, she turned around, twisted her head towards James, pointed at her own face, and asked, ”I looked like this, and you still managed to kiss me?”

”Hmm,” James nodded seriously.

”Even looking this ugly, you still kissed me for so long.” Jane was much shorter than James, so to not appear weak while talking to him, she painfully stood on her tiptoes, her face leaning closer to James’s as she asked word by word, ”So, James, how much do you like me?”

James raised his eyebrows but didn’t answer the question.

Seeing Jane struggling on tiptoe, he simply scooped her up with one arm and set her on the washbasin, while playfully taunting, ”Little shorty.”

Jane felt a pang in her heart from being teased out of the blue.

”I am tall!” Jane ground out through clenched teeth, ”I am 167! I can be both a delicate darling and a formidable lady. What do you know!”

Watching her sitting on the washbasin, frantically waving her hands, one second miming a delicate darling and the next, a pose of authority, James held back only to burst out laughing eventually.

”Sure, whatever makes you happy,” James said, reaching out to ruffle Jane’s hair.

Here it comes again! That feeling of being treated like a pet dog returned!

”I’m not the Great General,” Jane protested with a pout.

”Hmm, no, you’re not,” James seriously nodded, ”The Great General would be much smarter than you.”

”That’s an attack on my person!” Jane puffed up her cheeks, jumped down from the washbasin, and stormed past James to remove her makeup in a huff.

With her face looking like a mess, Jane couldn’t even stand her own reflection.

After removing her makeup and taking a shower, Jane finally felt refreshed, lying on the bed.

Meanwhile, James had already changed into pajamas and was sitting there with a book in his hands.

Previously, James used to read books in the study.

No one knows when he developed the bad habit of reading books in the bedroom bed.

Lying next to James, Jane tossed and turned several times, repeatedly stealing glances at him, clearly hesitating to speak. It was too obvious—James, not being blind, knew she wanted to say something.

”Speak.” James closed the book and put it on the bedhead cabinet, then spoke.

”I have two questions for you,” Jane said as James placed the book down, then she laid her head on his thigh and looked up at him, ”When I first got back, why weren’t you happy?”
