CEO's Reborn Wife

Chapter 520: Chapter 528: When You Are the Default

James Black could no longer hear Jane Sampson’s teasing voice, and felt his ears had finally gotten a bit of peace.

He wouldn’t tell Jane Sampson that he had bought the milk powder especially for her.

Since he planned to have Jane Sampson stay with the guard team for a while, he had been gradually preparing things for her, new toiletries, the shower gel she liked, and of course, the can of milk powder, as well as a bag of Alps lollipops he had put under the TV cabinet in the living room but which had been taken by that kid, Peter Gingery.

After waiting a short while, the water boiled, and James Black took out a cup, scooped a few spoonfuls of milk powder into it, stirred it, and then, cup in hand, he opened the kitchen door ready to step out.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw the person he had left in the bedroom standing at the doorway, grinning threateningly at him with bared teeth, and James Black was not surprised.

If she could quietly wait for him in the bedroom without bouncing around in front of him, then she wouldn’t be the Jane Sampson he had come to know again.

James Black indifferently passed by Jane Sampson and went to the sofa, putting the cup on the tea table, not looking back but listening to the footsteps, he knew Jane had followed.

”It’s a bit hot, wait a bit before drinking,” James Black reminded her.

Having said that, James Black didn’t glance at Jane Sampson, but sat down directly on the sofa and picked up the newspapers on the table to read.

Jane Sampson scrambled to James Black’s side, and like magic, produced James Black’s phone from behind her and waved it in front of him, ”I’ve started your phone for you.”

James Black glanced at the mobile phone screen, curved the corners of his mouth, and noted that not only had she started the phone, but she had also downloaded games for him.

”If you don’t reply, I’ll take it as consent,” Jane sat down next to James Black, ”Chief Black, you really are a good person.”

Obviously, that last bit of praise seemed half-hearted; if she wasn’t holding a mobile phone playing games while praising him, it might have seemed more sincere.

Jane deftly logged into the game on James Black’s phone, saw Peter Gingery was also there, and they, together with Mimi Wood and a few others, started a game on the spot.

Remembering that James Black was reading the newspaper next to her, Jane turned off the game’s sound effects on the mobile phone and then ran back to the bedroom, shut the door, and pressed start.

In the living room, as soon as Jane had left, James Black put the newspaper aside from his knee, his eyebrows furrowing slightly with displeasure.

Why did she have to run off to her room to play a game?

Couldn’t she sit on the sofa by herself?

After waiting in the living room for nearly 20 minutes without seeing Jane Sampson come out, James Black had lost all patience. His gaze swept over the tea table, and he picked up the cup from the tabletop and headed for the bedroom.

Upon opening the door, he could see Jane Sampson sprawled on the bed with her mobile phone, but on a closer look, she wasn’t playing the game; she was chatting in it. ”Your milk has cooled down,” James Black said, setting the cup on the bedhead cabinet and leaning over to take his phone back.

”Hey, hey, hey,” Jane Sampson’s hand followed James Black’s hand in a circle, failing to keep the phone, her lips moved as though saying something like ’stingy’.

James Black pointed to the cup on the bedhead cabinet and took a casual glance at the mobile phone screen; seeing the Little Protein Prince, he knew Jane Sampson was chatting with Peter Gingery.

He didn’t try to see what they were talking about and exited the game.

In the blink of an eye, Jane Sampson had already finished the cup of milk in one breath, showing a kind of boldness. Perhaps realizing he was watching her, she looked up at him and smiled, her lips, all white from the milk.

”Have you taken a bath and come here?” James Black suddenly asked.

Jane Sampson looked puzzled and nodded while reaching out to put the cup back on the bedhead cabinet.
