Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 893: Chapter 538: Negotiation / The Mysterious Grandpa

Upon entering the reception room, Noda Hikari courteously bowed: ”Miss Luo, thank you for giving me a chance, I truly appreciate it!”

Luo Ye stood up and smiled at her, gesturing towards the opposite side of the table: ”Miss Noda, there’s no need to be so formal, please have a seat.”

Looking at Ye Xuan who sat there as solid as Mt. Taishan, Noda Hikari hesitated: ”Miss Luo, could we... could we speak privately?”

”I’m Ye’er’s fiancé, her matters are my matters too, if you think I’m in the way, you can refrain from speaking.” Ye Xuan said calmly.

”I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I don’t think you’re in the way, truly I don’t.” Noda Hikari quickly stood up, looking troubled.

Luo Ye lightly pressed her palm, signaling Noda Hikari to sit down: ”Everything I know, he can know as well. If Miss Noda has reservations about him, then perhaps it’s better not to speak.”

Ye Xuan’s eyes quickly filled with amusement, this unreasoned protection gave him a sense of refreshing comfort akin to drinking ice water in June.

”Miss Luo, you are truly fortunate.” Noda Hikari’s envy was palpable.

”Thank you!” Luo Ye responded politely.

”Tomorrow, my father and I are returning to Japan.” Noda Hikari stood up and bowed, ”I greatly regret my past reversal, and hope you can forgive me!”

Luo Ye waved her hand: ”It’s alright, it’s all in the past.”

”This might be the last time we meet...” Noda Hikari’s gaze dimmed as she continued, ”I know everything Miss Luo said before was true, but as a member of the Yodan Family, I bear responsibilities and missions, even knowing I’m just a pawn, I have to accept it.

Coming to see Miss Luo today, my father was very pleased, hoping I would seek Miss Luo’s forgiveness and also her assistance, although I agreed to my father, clearly aware in my heart I have no right to request help from Miss Luo.

The reason for insisting on meeting Miss Luo was just to sincerely say thank you in person, you’re the only friend who genuinely cared for me.”

”Miss Noda, if there’s something, just say it.” Luo Ye smiled faintly, the previous plan was mutually beneficial, there was absolutely no ’genuine care’ involved, so with her current roundabout manner, she certainly has other intentions.

Noda Hikari awkwardly smiled: ”Miss Luo, I do have a request, could you help introduce me to a job?”

”Why?” Luo Ye asked without showing emotion.

”After returning, I... might be forced to marry someone I don’t like.” Noda Hikari hesitated and continued, ”Father has already told me, the Yodan Family’s bankruptcy was because of Miss Luo, if I had your assistance, my family members might have some scruples, and perhaps... perhaps I could avoid disaster.”

”You mean, let your family mistakenly believe you are undercover?”

”Yes.” Noda Hikari, feeling guilty, lowered her head.

Luo Ye’s eyes narrowed: ”You have betrayed me once.”

After a long silence, Noda Hikari raised her head: ”Miss Luo, I have nothing to use as collateral, nor any capital to make you believe, I can only shamelessly ask you to give me another chance, with your capabilities, punishing me is very easy...”

Luo Ye looked at her indifferently: ”Indeed, punishing you is not difficult for me, but why should I help you? If I hadn’t planned ahead, I should be locked up in jail now.”

Noda Hikari stood up in despair: ”I’m sorry to have bothered you.”

”I won’t help you, but if you go for an interview, I won’t stop you.”

”Really?” Noda Hikari’s eyes were full of surprise.

Luo Ye glanced at the wall clock: ”It’s getting late, I’ll let the driver take you.” Ye Xuan glanced briefly at Noda Hikari and got up to leave.

”Thank you, thank you so much!” Noda Hikari bowed with gratitude, ”Miss Luo, you are the benefactor of my life, if Hui Zi ever behaves ungratefully again, may she die a horrible death!”

Luo Ye couldn’t help but laugh: ”No need to speak so seriously.”

”It’s necessary, it’s necessary, Miss Luo, if there’s ever anything you need Hui Zi to do, just tell her, Hui Zi will definitely give her all!”

Ye Xuan returned, looking lightly at Noda Hikari: ”Alright, the car is here, you may leave now.”

”Thank you, thank you very much!”

Ye Xuan frowned: ”Say thank you less, do more practical things, it’s far more effective than anything.”

”You’re right, thank you for the reminder.”

”Pfft!”

Luo Ye suddenly burst out laughing.

Ye Xuan: ”...”

After Noda Hikari left, Luo Ye and Ye Xuan returned to the main hall, noticing the confused glances from everyone, Luo Ye briefly explained the purpose of Noda Hikari’s visit.

”Thinking about it, she’s actually quite pitiful.” Old Mrs. Wen said sympathetically.

”Grandma, you can’t say that, if it weren’t for Third Sister’s foresight, she’d still be locked up in prison now, let me tell you, Third Sister is just too soft-hearted, if it were me, I’d take this chance to rub salt in the wound and twist it further!”

Jingjing gave a thumbs up: ”Brother Nangua, with your voice saying that, it’s simply perfect!”

Wen Nan, currently in his voice changing period, sounded thin and hoarse, and when he spoke fiercely, it indeed had a touch of humor.

”Jingjing, are you complimenting me or criticizing me?” The Classmate Little Pumpkin was angry, tangled in his own voice.

”Of course, I’m complimenting you.”

”You...you little thing, watch how I deal with you.” Jingjing said seriously, but his eyes were full of smiles, making Little Pumpkin angry enough to pounce and pinch his neck without letting go.

Old Mrs. Wen quickly stopped them, ”Nangua, no bullying your brother.”

”Alright, everyone’s here, let’s stop messing around.” Mr. Wen pressed his palms down and looked at Luo Ye and Ye Xuan, ”We were just discussing your little uncle’s wedding, planning to visit the Hua Family next Tuesday. Can you both make time?”

”No problem for me.” Both said almost in unison.

Luo Ye looked questioningly at Ye Xuan, ”Hey, aren’t you supposed to go back for handover?”

”The lifelong matter of the little uncle, how could I not go? I can take leave and go back a few days later.”

Wen Tong laughed as he looked at him, ”Ye Xuan, your mouth is becoming more articulate.”

”No, I’m speaking from the heart.” Ye Xuan replied earnestly.

Grand Old Master Ye tapped his cane on the floor, ”I want to say a few words.”

Luo Ye quickly hugged the old man’s arm, ”Great Grandpa, please speak.”

”Because of me, Xiao Xuan and Ye’er’s engagement got delayed. Now this old man is as strong as an ox, shouldn’t the marriage matter be organized soon?”

Mr. Wen quickly said, ”Uncle Ye, we are listening to your opinion on this.”

”We were supposed to discuss the little uncle’s wedding, why did it turn to us?” Luo Ye said, not pleased.

”Oh dear, Ye’er is actually shy?” Wen Ke leaned over to Luo Ye, blinking, ”Everyone knows about you two, so what’s there to be shy about?”

Luo Ye gave her a mischievous smile and looked at Mr. Wen, ”Grandpa, I have something to say.”

Mr. Wen chuckled, ”Go ahead!”

Luo Ye stood up slowly and performed a curtsy, ”Grandpa, Sister Coco wants to get engaged, shouldn’t you and Grandma arrange it for her?”

Old Mrs. Wen shook her head with a chuckle, ”One by one, becoming more and more unruly!”

”Grandma, you can’t say that.” Luo Ye leaned beside Grandma and put her arm around Grandma’s shoulder, ”Grandpa is just like the Emperor of our family.”

Grandma tapped her granddaughter’s forehead, ”Don’t talk nonsense. In the old days, you’d lose your little head for that.”

”Empress Dowager, you must have mercy under the knife.” Luo Ye went all out with her mischievousness.

Mr. Wen tapped his fingers on the table, ”Ye’er, from now on, come home every day to stay, keep the Empress Dowager company.”

Luo Ye smiled ingratiatingly, ”Grandpa, often is fine, but every day is too much; even if the school gives me special treatment, I should be conscious, don’t you think?”

”You, lecturing Grandpa now.” Mr. Wen looked at Grand Old Master Ye, ”Uncle Ye, sometimes this girl is so unruly, when she marries into the Ye Family, you’ll need to worry more.”

”Meow!”

Grand Old Master Ye pointed at the pathetic howling Hei who was suddenly attacked, ”Little Wen, anyone dares trouble Ye’er, I’ll squeeze them to death!”

”Uncle Ye, on behalf of the Wen Family, thank you for your sincere care for Ye’er.” Mr. Wen was somewhat moved; Hei’s place in the old man’s heart was as significant as Ye Xuan, even sometimes higher than Ye Xuan. All along, he knew the old master liked Ye’er, protected Ye’er, but he had not expected the old master’s biased favoritism towards Ye’er to this extent.

The old master stood up, ”Alright, continue discussing Xiao Tong and Xiao Rong’s wedding, Ye’er, Xiao Xuan, accompany Great Grandpa back to the room.”

Jingjing sulked, ”Great Grandpa, but Sister Ye’er and Uncle are leaving, what about us?”

Lianlian secretly let out a breath of relief; discussing weddings of the Wen Family caused some awkward feelings for her, and she felt embarrassed to leave with them, so Jingjing’s inquiry was a perfect escape for her.

”You sit for a while, Xiao Xuan and Ye’er will be back soon.” The old master said as he walked out.

Lianlian shifted uneasily; Ye Mo, Qu Yue, Wen Yan, Wen Su chatted amiably, feeling no awkwardness, but she was not familiar with Wen Ke, and staying here felt too uncomfortable.

The old master’s words cannot be ignored, but Lianlian’s feelings must also be considered, Luo Ye thought for a moment and looked at Wen Ke, ”Sis, keep Lianlian company for me.”

”Problem,” Wen Ke said and hooked Lianlian’s arm, ”Lianlian, I started on a cross-stitching the other day, come help me see if it can be designed onto a clothes piece, okay?”

”Okay!” Lianlian finally let out a sigh of relief, having spent a long time abroad, she was quite wary about prying into other people’s privacy like this.

The old master entered his room and sent away the caregiver serving him, even worriedly shutting the door, leaving Hei to guard at the door.

Ye Xuan amusedly watched the secretive old master, ”Great Grandpa, what’s so urgent that you have to say it now and make it so mysterious?”
