Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 531: Chapter 319: Fury

Upon hearing Ye Qinghe mention Zhong Shan’s arrival, Luo Ye recalled what Ye Xuan had mentioned when they left the main hall and asked, ”Zhong Shan is Sister Qinglian’s husband, right?”

”Yes, he used to be Second Uncle’s secretary, now he’s on assignment at the City Construction Bureau.”

Luo Ye pondered for a moment: ”Shouldn’t we go and greet them?”

Ye Qinghe quickly interrupted, ”Please, the elders have all returned to their rooms, and Fourth Sister doesn’t care about anything. I came here to enjoy some peace with Great Grandpa, and you guys actually want to walk right into it? Be careful or you’ll get splashed with blood!”

”After all, it’s my first time visiting the Ye Family, wouldn’t it be impolite not to go over?” Luo Ye looked at Ye Xuan for input.

”Don’t listen to Qing He’s exaggeration. Since it’s Ye’er’s first visit, Fourth Sister won’t make a scene in front of Ye’er and her brother-in-law for the sake of saving face. Right, Qinglian is ranked as number four among the girls in the Ye Family, so we call her Fourth Sister.” Ye Xuan stood up and patted Ye Qinghe’s shoulder: ”If Great Grandpa wakes up, remember to give him a cup of warm water, and accompany him for a walk in the yard.”

”Big brother, aren’t you underestimating me? How could I not know about Great Grandpa’s habits...” Ye Qinghe rolled her eyes in displeasure, ”Just go.”

As the two stepped out, Ye Xuan said, ”Ye’er, Sister Qinglian’s temper has been spoiled by Second Aunt; she’s not very considerate, especially towards her brother-in-law, ordering him around is common. Once we go in, just say hello and that’s it.”

”Oh.” Luo Ye nodded, ”I don’t have the habit of meddling in others’ affairs, don’t worry.”

Before reaching the entrance of the hall, they could already hear Ye Qinglian’s shrill voice: ”...Do you rank higher than Dad in position? To put it bluntly, you just didn’t want to pick me up, intentionally dragging your feet, no amount of sophistry can change that fact...”

Luo Ye hesitantly looked at Ye Xuan, to enter or not? Ye Xuan, with his arm around her, continued forward: ”When the elders are not around, Fourth Sister won’t miss the opportunity to give her brother-in-law a piece of her mind.”

Pushing open the door, there were three people sitting in the hall, Ye Qinglian, Ye Jian, and a man in his thirties, wearing a black suit, with bushy eyebrows and large eyes exuding a muscular handsomeness.

”Is this the future sister-in-law?” the man came forward to meet them.

”Ye’er, this is Fourth Sister’s husband, Zhong Shan,” Ye Xuan introduced.

Luo Ye politely smiled, ”Hello, Brother-in-law Zhong Shan, I’m Luo Ye.”

”Nice to meet you.” Zhong Shan extended his hand but thinking better of it, turned to shake hands with Ye Xuan, ”Xiao Xuan, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other.”

”Luo Ye, come sit.” Ye Qinglian also came up, overly smiling, ”I was just playing around with your brother-in-law just now.”

Luo Ye just smiled, not saying a word.

”Luo Ye, our family’s Xiao Xuan has high standards when picking a girlfriend. Just today, Xiao Wan, who came back with Third Aunt, has liked Xiao Xuan since she was little. But Xiao Xuan just wouldn’t give her the time of day. You should know, Xiao Wan’s family background isn’t much worse than the Ye Family, and her appearance is impeccable...”

Ye Xuan frowned and interrupted her, ”Fourth Sister, you don’t need to meddle in my affairs!”

”Alright, alright, I’m just trying to help you.” Ye Qinglian turned to Luo Ye with a smile, ”This guy is so domineering, doesn’t take me seriously as his sister at all. Right, Luo Ye has just got here and already went to accompany Great Grandpa, yet hasn’t taken a look around the estate. I’ll accompany you for a walk, let these men chat together, shall we?”

Without waiting for Luo Ye to reply, Ye Xuan cast a dismissive glance at Ye Qinglian, ”Ye’er just had surgery a few days ago, she needs to rest and recuperate.”

”Oh right, look at my memory.” Ye Qinglian slapped her forehead, pondering for a moment, ”Luo Ye, you can sleep in my room, I’m feeling sleepy too, we can rest together, how about that?”

”There are plenty of guest rooms in the house,” Ye Xuan said indifferently. Luo Ye gave him a look and turned to Ye Qinglian, ”Will it trouble Fourth Sister too much?”

”Not at all.” Ye Qinglian said, eyes smiling as she pulled her away, ”Of course I know we have plenty of guest rooms, but I just wanted to get closer to Luo Ye. Stinky Xiao Xuan, Fourth Sister is trying to win Luo Ye over for you, you’re really ungrateful.”

On their way out, Luo Ye glanced back at everyone in the room; Zhong Shan clearly breathed a sigh of relief, while that Ye Jian kept to himself with a book, unsociable. Hmm, quite a character.

As for Handsome Ye, he had a helpless expression; clearly, he was very worried about his unreliable Fourth Sister. Luo Ye gave him a reassuring look, the corner of her mouth curled in a smile, she was curious to see what kind of tricks Ye Qinglian had up her sleeve!

After her marriage, Ye Qinglian had always lived in the Ye Family estate, with the bridal chamber located in the side building, completely modern in decoration, contrasting with Great Grandpa’s room which was on the opposite spectrum.

Seeing Luo Ye inspecting the room’s layout, Ye Qinglian laughed, ”Xiao Xuan’s matrimonial room is much nicer than mine, Ye’er don’t be envious.”

Luo Ye felt speechless; when had she ever been envious? In the other’s eyes, was she some bumpkin who had never seen the world?

Ye Qinglian took out a turquoise colored pajama set from the wardrobe and handed it to Luo Ye, ”This pajama hasn’t been worn, make do with it, okay?”

Luo Ye had no interest in beating around the bush with her, let alone wearing her clothes. She simply sat on the sofa, her expression calm as she watched Ye Qinglian, ”Fourth Sister, if you have something to say, just say it.”

Ye Qinglian’s eyes twinkled as she sat down with an embarrassed smile, ”No wonder Xiao Xuan likes you. You’re straightforward, smart, and pretty. And although your family background isn’t at par with the Ye Family, it’s still not bad.”

”I don’t need you to judge my relationship with Ye Xuan.” Luo Ye’s face turned cold. ”If you came to belittle my family background, then please excuse me, I’m not interested.”

”Look at you, why aren’t you happy? The more time you spend with me, the more you’ll realize that I’m just straightforward. I speak my mind without pretense.

Just like my Grandma’s family background, I don’t shy away from it. It’s a common family, isn’t it? I don’t get mad when others mention it because it’s simply the truth.”

Luo Ye narrowed her eyes at her. ”Is this your first time here trying to put me in my place?”

”No, no.” Ye Qinglian quickly waved her hand. ”I really didn’t mean that. My mom’s right, I’m not good at conversation. Everything I say tends to be unpleasant.

Actually, here’s the thing: Fourth wants you to do her a favor. If you run into Qiao Xiaowan again, could you try not to make it too awkward? Little Jian has been fond of her all this time.”

Luo Ye smiled faintly. ”Sure, as long as she doesn’t provoke me, there won’t be any problems.”

”But... but...” Ye Qinglian stammered, ”Xiao Wan has a bit of a temper, and Ye’er is the eldest grandchild-in-law. For the sake of her brother, could you be a bit more tolerant, please?”

”No!” Luo Ye stood up. ”It seems that you have a good relationship with that Qiao Xiaowan and you really favor her. I’d advise you to put your effort into her instead.” Saying so, she left Ye Qinglian’s room without looking back.

”You!” Ye Qinglian swiped her hand, and all the teacups on the coffee table fell to the floor with a clatter. The servant came in with a broom, cautiously glancing at Ye Qinglian.

”Get out!”

”Yes, Fourth Miss.” The servant hurried out.

...

As Ye Qinglian was fuming alone, Qiao Xiaowan was throwing a little miss tantrum at the Qiao Family’s home.

Ever since returning from the Ye Family’s house, she had locked herself in her room, sulking. She didn’t even come out for lunch, ignoring her mom Lian Qinghua’s calls.

Later on, after thinking it over, she realized that stewing in her feelings wouldn’t help and that she should seek the support of her elders. So she opened the door and told Lian Qinghua all about what she had endured at the Ye Family in great detail.

Lian Qinghua was also worried and immediately called Ye Xuan’s mom, Su Sha. Su Sha apologized and explained her helplessness...

After hanging up the phone, Lian Qinghua thought it over and rushed with her daughter back to her father-in-law’s place. Qiao Xiaowan poured out her grievances to Grandpa Qiao, while Lian Qinghua fanned the flames from the side.

Thankfully, Grandpa Qiao wasn’t muddleheaded. He consoled the mother and daughter, saying that Elder Ye was tough enough to scold Grand Old Master Ye, so Qiao Xiaowan had no real grievance to speak of.

Upon hearing this, Qiao Xiaowan sobbed on Grandma Qiao’s shoulder, hardly able to catch her breath, saying: Grandpa doesn’t love her, doesn’t care about her, doesn’t... Grandpa Qiao couldn’t help but laugh and cry, ”Xiaowan, are you really just upset about the Great Grandpa scolding you?”

”You clearly know what’s going on, Grandpa.” Qiao Xiaowan sat up, her expression paused, and she quickly leaned on Grandma Qiao’s shoulder and cried.

Old Master Qiao had already noticed that her face wasn’t even wet with tears and said helplessly, ”Stop pretending. You’re 22 already; why do you still act like a child?”

Lian Qinghua looked seriously at Grandpa Qiao. ”Dad, I’ve never taken seriously the gossip about the Ye Family’s grandson marrying into the Wen Family, nor did I probe Su Sha about it. I was afraid that Xiaowan would be at a disadvantage before even setting foot into their household.

But this time, it’s not as simple as just rumors. Regardless of Xiaowan’s own feelings about it, just the marriage alliance between the Qiao and Ye Families alone should be worthy of us swallowing our pride once. Don’t you think so, Dad?”

Qiao Xiaowan stopped her fake crying and turned to Old Master Qiao expectantly.

”It’s not right!” Old Master Qiao waved his hand. ”The Qiao Family has the support of the Moselle Family, which makes many people envious. If we add the strong headwind of the Ye Family as an ally, it might not be a good thing.”

”Grandpa!” Qiao Xiaowan’s face changed. ”Do you mean to say that I should give up?”

”Xiaowan, I’ve met Ye Xuan and talked with him. If he really has accepted that girl from the Luo Family, then we shouldn’t be the villains and face rejection. I like him a lot, but there are many things in life that we can’t just have our way with,” Old Master Qiao sighed.

Qiao Xiaowan spoke with a stubborn look, ”Grandpa, he is my childhood sweetheart and my first love. I can’t give him up to another girl. If you don’t let me marry him, I would rather stay single my whole life!”

Old Master Qiao laughed helplessly, ”I’m not an immortal. Do you think if I tell him to marry you, he would? Old Master Ye has already made it clear; Ye Xuan’s marriage is his own decision.

From the way you describe it, I can tell he’s serious about that girl. Xiaowan, listen to your Grandpa, we’ll find someone more suitable for you.”

”I believe that Grandpa will help me.” Qiao Xiaowan stood up with a calm expression. ”I’ve troubled you, Grandpa and Grandma. Mom, let’s go home.”

”You...” Old Master Qiao’s mustache quivered with anger. ”Xiaowan, if you dare ask your Grandpa for help, then I will no longer acknowledge you as my granddaughter!”

Covering my face, this really is slow typing, I’ll try to make up for it tomorrow. Yes, the first update tomorrow will be around one o’clock, and I’ll try to write more words. (To be continued.
