Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 523: Chapter 315: Meeting the Prospective Mother- and Daughter-in-law

Although it was late in early winter, the sunshine on that day was clear and warm, making the courtyard very comfortable. Ye Xuan put a thick sweater on Grandpa and moved a reclining chair to a sheltered spot to help him lie down; then he found another reclining chair and, laughing at Luo Ye who was teasing Grandpa, said, ”Ye’er, come lie down here.”

Luo Ye waved her hands in alarm: ”No way, how old is Great Grandpa, and how old am I? Stop kidding around!”

”You’re in a special situation, right? Sunbathing is good for your body during the recovery phase. Be obedient.” Ye Xuan coaxed softly, trying to lift her onto the chair, but Luo Ye struggled fiercely: ”No need, I’m not that delicate.”

”Stop moving, your wound just healed. Listen to me.” She was strong for a girl, but stood no chance against him; Ye Xuan picked her up effortlessly and put her on the reclining chair.

”The granddaughter-in-law isn’t being naughty, she’s accompanying Grandpa to sunbathe.” Grandpa smiled and eyed Luo Ye affectionately, his withered hand reaching out to pat her: ”Be good.”

Luo Ye looked at Grandpa somewhat dazedly. Was this old gentleman confused or not? How did it seem like he understood everything?

Ye Xuan moved a stool and sat between Grandpa and his future granddaughter-in-law, peeling sunflower seeds for the pair. Grandpa turned his head to look at his great-grandson and future great-granddaughter-in-law, animatedly telling them stories he found joyful.

Several differently colored cats approached and lay next to Grandpa, comfortably stretching their limbs and occasionally meowing, clearly a sign that Grandpa usually treated them really well, for them to be so reliant on him.

Basking in the sun made Luo Ye feel languid; she murmured softly with half-closed eyes: ”When we’re old, we’ll just lie here and sunbathe like this.”

Ye Xuan chuckled softly: ”No problem, if you drool, I’ll wipe it for you.”

”You don’t know who’ll be wiping whose drool yet.”

”Don’t talk, listen to me.” Clearly, Grandpa was very unhappy with their lack of attention.

”Great Grandpa, we were wrong, please continue.” Luo Ye quickly said.

”Granddaughter-in-law is good.” Grandpa patted Luo Ye contentedly and frowned in thought for a while, then looked at Ye Xuan for confirmation: ”Xiao Xuan, where did I leave off?”

”You were talking about how Big Flower chased Hei to the courtyard wall and encountered a mouse, Big Flower was so scared that it trembled, now you continue...”

”Right right, look at me, my mind isn’t working well these days; I tend to forget as soon as I put my claws out.” Grandpa complained and continued with his story, his earnest appearance making Luo Ye turn her body to listen attentively, and seeing her earnestness, Grandpa became even more enthusiastic...

...

Inside the main hall, the whole family was chatting away even more joyously. The old lady held onto Zhan Ping’s hand, not wanting to let go; she grew fonder and fonder of this sensible grandson, and by extension, began to find the usually aloof Xiao Wan more pleasing to the eye.

The old man glanced up and caught a glimpse of Su Sha entering the door with Qiao Xiaowan, a flash of displeasure in his eyes.

”Mom, Dad, I’m back.” Su Sha glanced nervously at her father-in-law, then casually greeted everyone else. Seeing Zhan Ping sitting next to the old lady, she warmly commented: ”This must be Pingping, right? He has inherited the strengths of Seventh Brother and his wife, so handsome!”

”Thank you, Third Aunt, for the compliment.” Zhan Ping responded politely.

Qiao Xiaowan, having already greeted everyone, sat next to the old lady and wrapped her arm around her, trying to ingratiate herself: ”So I have another younger brother now?” She used to come to the Ye Family often since she was young and was very familiar with everyone.

The old lady nodded: ”You should be a few years older than Pingping. Xiaowan, it’s been a long time since you last visited. How are your grandparents doing?”

Qiao Xiaowan smiled sweetly: ”Thank you for your concern, Grandma, they’re both doing well. I’ve missed you and Grandpa a lot, can I come to see you both every week from now on?”

Before the old lady could respond, the old man laughed and said: ”Xiaowan, you’re busy with work; when you have time, you should spend more of it with your grandparents. Don’t let them say we’re taking their granddaughter from them.”

”Then how about alternating weeks? Would that be fair?” Qiao Xiaowan snuggled up to the old man with a smile: ”Grandpa, you wouldn’t mind me coming to visit, would you?”

”You little one.” The old man smiled helplessly: ”As you wish.”

”Mom, where’s Xiao Xuan?” Su Sha asked.

”Xiao Xuan and Ye’er went to see Great Grandpa; go say hello to them. Ye’er is a hero of our family; she deserves your visit.” The old man looked at the time: ”I was thinking of having you and Third go together, but it looks like he got held up by work again. You go ahead, it’s not good to leave the kid hanging for too long.”

”Mom, Dad, I’ll go then.” Su Sha turned and headed out, and Qiao Xiaowan quickly followed: ”I’ll go see Great Grandpa too.”
