Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 334: Chapter 192: I Admit Defeat

Ye Xuan returned the salute, then looked at Luo Ye with a smile: ”Instructor Hang has always insisted that you are a student I taught. This matter, however, I can’t take credit for what I didn’t do. But since she insists on pinning it on me, I might as well admit it, is that okay?”

”Okay!”

”Have you ever practiced 100-meter moving rapid fire?”

”Reporting to the instructor, no!” ——In this lifetime, I truly haven’t practiced, and lying is not something a good child does.

Ye Xuan turned to Hang Menglin: ”I believe you must have trained Yu Na in 100-meter moving speed shooting, and her results should have satisfied you. Under these circumstances, do you think it’s fair to let her compete against Luo Ye?”

Hang Menglin averted her gaze: ”President Ye once said, in battle, the enemy won’t care about fairness. Why is it that when it comes to President Ye’s people, we have to talk about fairness?”

As Luo Ye’s instructor, Shao Bo was displeased: ”Instructor Hang, aren’t you being unreasonable? Is this the same as what the boss said? The boss was talking about grassroots selection, but you are forcibly comparing them. This is like forcing an ordinary person to compete against an Olympic champion, and they can’t refuse. Is that reasonable?”

Hang Menglin turned her head away, remaining silent.

”Reporting!”

”Step forward!”

Yu Na stepped out of the ranks, ”Reporting to the chief instructor, Instructor Hang was my coach during the summer training. She has always been strict with the students and never spoils them. I believe she is not targeting Luo Ye intentionally; there might be some misunderstandings.

Since Luo Ye has not received training, such a competition seems unfair. I would like to share my thoughts. If Luo Ye is willing to compete with me, she can disregard the standard procedures, aim to keep the time under 40 seconds, and we’ll decide the winner based on hit rate. How does that sound?”

”Luo Ye, what do you think?” Ye Xuan looked at Luo Ye. He didn’t speak because this matter was very tricky. If he asked for Luo Ye’s opinion on the spot, Luo Ye would have to compete, otherwise how could she hold her head up later?

But moving rapid fire isn’t just about being good at shooting. He was pondering how to save Luo Ye’s face without letting Hang Menglin have her way. Yu Na’s stepping forward was indeed an urgent solution for him, and these conditions were still favorable for Luo Ye.

Luo Ye looked serious: ”Reporting to the instructor, a competition naturally has to be on the same basis. I haven’t trained, but when the chief instructor demonstrated, I memorized the target positions. It’s not certain that I will lose. Let’s follow the rules, I’ll compete!”

Yu Na looked at Luo Ye unexpectedly and then sought Hang Menglin’s opinion. Hang Menglin quickly looked away, and Yu Na understood her meaning, thus remained silent.

Hang Menglin’s behavior prompted a flash of disdain in Ye Xuan’s eyes. After a quick thought, he looked at Luo Ye: ”Are you sure?”

Luo Ye nodded firmly: ”Sure!”

Ye Xuan shouted loudly: ”Set up the 100-meter moving rapid fire targets!”

”Reporting!”

Ye Xuan looked at Luo Ye, puzzled: ”What is it?”

”I would like to speak a few words with the instructor!”

”Granted!”

Luo Ye approached Hang Menglin, saluted, and looked directly at her: ”Instructor, I’m not quite clear why you’re targeting me. Could you tell me why?”

Hang Menglin clearly did not expect Luo Ye to be so direct and, after a moment of surprise, responded: ”I’m not targeting you. I just think you’re a promising talent who needs more tempering!”

The scene burst into laughter; the instructor’s words were quite amusing. Was this how they temper someone? No one had really noticed before, but now upon thinking about it, the instructor indeed seemed to be targeting Luo Ye...

The corners of Luo Ye’s lips curved up: ”Thank you for the instructor’s affection, I understand!” She turned and returned to Ye Xuan’s side. Ma Chong and the others watched as Luo Ye’s mouth twitched, while Ye Xuan’s expression remained unchanged. Upon closer inspection, one could see his eyes were filled with mirth.

Hang Menglin clenched her teeth, restraining herself from lashing out. She knew that losing her temper in front of the students would degrade her standing, so she held back for now. She didn’t believe she couldn’t handle these princesses and young masters. Over the years, hadn’t all the most problematic soldiers eventually obediently followed her orders?

A soldier ran up to Ye Xuan and stood to attention, saluting: ”Reporting to the chief instructor, the 100-meter moving rapid fire targets are set up!”

Ye Xuan saluted back and addressed the cadets: ”The 100-meter moving rapid fire will be something everyone will encounter once they reach a certain level in their marksmanship. Let me explain the rules in advance.

Within 40 seconds, move forward 100 meters, during which 30 steel plate targets will pop up, and hitting 25 or more is considered passing. In other words, the higher your physical strength, eyesight, gun skill, and state of mind, the better your results. All the basic training will relate to your scores. Do you understand what I mean?”

The cadets shouted in unison: ”Understood!”

”Luo Ye, Yu Na, take your positions!”

”I’ll go first.” Yu Na looked at Luo Ye.

”Okay!” Luo Ye did not decline.

”Start the timer!” At Yu Na’s shout, she instantly sprinted out, loaded the magazine, switched off the safety, and started shooting. Her physical strength and marksmanship were not bad. Although she couldn’t compare to Ye Xuan and Hang Menglin, she was definitely outstanding among the ordinary soldiers.

The trainees watched with great interest. They were too busy to clearly see how the instructors and coaches performed the action. Yu Na’s demonstration, however, made it convenient for everyone to learn.

After the last target fell to the ground, a confident smile flashed across Yu Na’s face. She performed much better than usual, certainly enough to satisfy Instructor Hang!

”35 seconds, all hits!” Ye Xuan was the first to report.

”35 seconds, all hits!” Hang Menglin looked at Yu Na with satisfaction, and rarely, a smile flicked across her face.

”She can actually smile? Am I seeing things?” Xing Nong rubbed his eyes vigorously, his face full of disbelief.

Yaoguang snorted: ”It’s true she smiled at Yu Na, but if you think of getting her to smile at you, not even in your next life.”

”Agreed!” Bai Qingchu nodded in agreement.

Xing Nong frowned miserably, twisting his hair ends: ”Yu Na’s score is so good, and Luoluo... Sigh, that girl, it’s driving me nuts, I’m a hundred percent sure she’s never practiced, why didn’t she accept Yu Na’s terms!”

”With her personality, it’d be strange if she agreed. She might seem easygoing, but once you provoke her, she turns into a little leopard, with her claws ’whoosh whoosh’ scratching at you.” Yaoguang patted Xing Nong reassuringly: ”Don’t worry, she’s always been the embodiment of miracles. Besides, even if she loses, it’s not a shame. Having never practiced and still daring to compete, she has already won!”

After a bit of contemplation, Xing Nong laughed: ”Yaoguang, well done, you’ve improved quite a bit, worth praising.”

”Indeed!” Yaoguang stood proudly: ”Our progress is like ’a thousand miles a day’!”

Yao Juanjuan scoffed: ”Stop flattering yourselves, the class leader is sure to win. Who else here can make Instructor Hang satisfied?”

Yaoguang glared at her coldly: ”We don’t, do you?”

Yao Juanjuan turned her face away and fell silent.

Xing Nong tugged on Yaoguang: ”Don’t stoop to argue with her type, Luoluo is starting.”

At the starting line, Luo Ye held her gun and narrowed her eyes to focus, hesitating slightly before shouting, ”Start timing!” Her small figure sprang forward swiftly, inserting the magazine, disengaging the safety, plunging forward, three targets fell as they were hit, she then bounced up nimbly, dashing forward, targets popping up around her fell in response, and even during the mag change, her movements were crisp, not a bit inferior to the instructors.

Not just the trainees, but even the instructors were stunned. Is this really her first time? Oh God, they might as well be smashed! When compared to this little girl, they can’t even hold their heads up!

Hang Menglin frowned deeply, she didn’t believe for one second that this was Luo Ye’s first time speed shooting while moving. She clenched her fists tightly; to her, this girl was intentionally making a fool out of her!

But what could she say? With Ye Xuan and Luo Ye not admitting to having practiced, where could she find evidence? Anyway, she had made a mess of the demonstration today!

Her body abruptly turned to leave, then unwillingly turned back; she really wanted to see what Luo Ye’s score was!

With the last target down, Luo Ye walked back holding her gun as the trainees burst into loud applause, even shouting praises unabashedly.

”This girl, she’s deliberately showing off to Hang Menglin.” Watching the petite figure in camouflage imitating Ye Xuan’s movements with her bent arm holding the gun, Xing Nong laughed so hard that he teared up.

The instructors also burst into unhidden laughter; she really did memorize all of Boss Ye’s movements, just as she claimed. If Boss Ye walking over like that was cool to death, then her walking over was cute to death, giving one the urge to pinch those little cheeks!

Ye Xuan, to hide his own amusement, had to look up at the sky, understanding now why she had kept silent when he had called her out earlier, even though she knew it put him in a difficult spot.

She was waiting for his own stance. If he had outright rejected her at that time, she probably would’ve distanced herself from him forever. And had he thoughtlessly agreed on her behalf, she would’ve surely complained about his imposing ways and kept her distance in the future too.

And she had deliberately left the dilemma to him, knowing full well he could not vocalize a query under those circumstances. This girl...

”29 seconds, all hits!” Hang Menglin reluctantly announced the result, then turned and walked away without another word.

”Instructor Hang!” Yu Na called out with tears in her eyes, she had embarrassed her most trusted instructor and lost face herself...

Hang Menglin turned and glared at Yu Na: ”Don’t you know what I hate the most?”

Yu Na quickly wiped away her tears, standing up straight: ”Reporting to Instructor Hang, I will definitely train harder, I will not let you down again!”

”Remember your own words.” Hang Menglin strode away with long steps.

Ye Xuan’s lips curved slightly: ”My timing aligns with Instructor Hang’s. Luo Ye, Yu Na, return to the squad!”

”Yes!”

The scene erupted with enthusiastic applause. With the exception of a few female trainees, everyone was not jealous of Luo Ye at all. Driving Female Yama away was the most delightful thing for everyone—being watched by her always sent chills down their spines.

If they knew what the wager was between Ye Xuan and Hang Menglin, they probably would’ve risked punishment to rush over and express their heartfelt thanks to Luo Ye!
