Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 333: Chapter 191: Willing to Bet, Can You Accept Defeat?

Hang Menglin finished the food in her box in less than three minutes. She glanced around and saw Luo Ye, Xing Nong, Yaoguang, Zhan Hao, Wu Zetian, and Zhang Youhan sitting together, chatting and laughing while eating. A shade of gloom flashed across the bottom of her eyes.

After observing for a while, she frowned, stood up, took a few steps forward, then stopped and changed direction—Ye Xuan was squatting and eating with a few instructors.

Hang Menglin looked down at them: ”You eat at this speed?”

Ye Xuan ignored her, and Ma Chong glanced up at her indifferently: ”Instructor Hang, it seems like our eating speed is none of your business, right?”

”I never planned to interfere. I’m just wondering how you all got selected with your dragging feet.” Hang Menglin turned to Ye Xuan, who had just finished eating: ”Head Instructor, I have a question for you.”

”You, a woman, understand...”

Ye Xuan stopped Ma Chong, who was about to burst into anger, and looked at Hang Menglin: ”So, Instructor Hang, you think of yourself as a military exemplar, do you?”

”I didn’t say that, I just don’t like soldiers who drag things out, like to show off, pretend to be weak, pull strings...”

Ye Xuan nodded: ”Got it. Based on what you’ve said, plus your own thinking, there probably aren’t many people in this world you’d like besides yourself.”

”Nonsense, there’s also my Grandpa!”

”Oh...” Ye Xuan’s tone shifted: ”You’re very strict with others. So, I want to ask you, why can’t you even adhere to the most basic rule of being a soldier?”

”Which rule?” Hang Menglin was startled and completely followed Ye Xuan’s train of thought.

A hint of mocking flashed in Ye Xuan’s eyes: ”Have you shown respect for your superiors? You’re a Lieutenant, and I’m a Lieutenant Colonel. What right do you have to question me, to order me around? Why didn’t you salute when you saw me?”

”I...”

Ma Chong and the others began to smirk, and Wang Song mockingly pinched his voice: ”You need to be as harsh as winter to others, and as warm as spring to yourself. Women should be good to themselves!”

”You... you all... shameless!” Hang Menglin’s face turned beet red, and veins throbbed faintly on her neck.

Wang Song pinched his voice again: ”’You... you all... shameless!’ Guys, don’t you think I sound particularly feminine when I say that?”

Shao Bo solemnly nodded: ”Sister Xiao Song, I’m convinced!”

”Stop messing around!” Seeing the female Yama turning the color of liver, Ye Xuan hurriedly stopped them and looked at Hang Menglin: ”Say what you want to say.”

Hang Menglin grimaced: ”If you’re not afraid of losing face, I’ll say it in front of everyone.”

Ye Xuan gestured: ”Say it.”

”Did you provide individual training for Luo Ye?”

Ma Chong, Shao Bo, and the others looked puzzledly at Hang Menglin. This was their first time on the shooting range; Boss Ye hadn’t even had time to consider individual training.

”Me? Provided individual training for Luo Ye?” A slight smile appeared on Ye Xuan’s lips: ”What, are you upset by Luo Ye’s scores?”

”She upset me?” Hang Menglin’s face showed scorn: ”People you personally train, compared with trainees who’ve never touched a gun, isn’t that unfair?”

Ye Xuan looked at Hang Menglin impassively: ”Firstly, I’ll emphasize again, I did not train Luo Ye. Secondly, among the new students, countless have touched and trained with guns. Instructor Hang should be able to see that unless you’re blind. Why target Luo Ye specifically? Thirdly, what is fairness? In battle, does the enemy talk about fairness because you had no opportunity to train and decide not to kill you?”

Hang Menglin stared at Ye Xuan fiercely: ”Isn’t she your fiancée-to-be? Do you dare to deny it?”

Ma Chong and others looked at Ye Xuan in surprise. When did Boss Ye get such a young fiancée-to-be?

”She is my fiancée-to-be, do you have evidence?” Ye Xuan’s face darkened: ”You keep picking on Luo Ye, a Lieutenant in her nearly 30s, harassing a student not even 20. Do you think that’s appropriate?”

”You still haven’t answered my question directly.” Hang Menglin persisted.

Ye Xuan looked at her coldly: ”I don’t need to answer you directly. Instructor Hang, I suggest that if you have free time, you should see a psychologist!”

”Hmph! You don’t need to mock me; clearly you’re hit where it hurts and feeling guilty. I’ll report this matter to the organization. This relationship of yours is utterly unfair to the other students!” She pointed to Luo Ye laughing and chatting with the boys: ”Look at her, chatting and laughing with boys, what kind of behavior is that?”

Shao Bo studied Hang Menglin: ”Instructor Hang, do you have a boyfriend?”

”It’s none of your business!”

”It’s not my business, but it’s the students’ business. With your way of thinking, unless men collectively become monks and women become nuns, no interactions to the point of death, then presumably you would be satisfied. By the way, you’re a lady, standing surrounded by men, what kind of behavior is that?”

”You...”

Ye Xuan interrupted Hang Menglin: ”Find a place to rest. The competition will start soon. As for the matter you’re concerned about, if you want to report it, then report it, do as you please!”

”Hmph!” Hang Menglin walked towards a secluded corner with a sullen face.

”Boss, how did this woman get promoted to Lieutenant?” Wang Song asked curiously.

”Training harder than men, charging to the front in dangerous missions, executing the leader’s orders decisively whether right or wrong, immediately reporting any signs of young soldiers dating to nip it in the bud...”

Ma Chong interrupted Ye Xuan, waving his hands repeatedly, ”Stop! Stop! Stop! Boss, enough, it’s creeping me out. How can there be such a woman in the world, even robots have more emotions than her!”

Wang Song chuckled and said, ”If you ever want to curse someone, just say, ’May you end up marrying Hang Menglin!’”

Ma Chong made a throttling gesture, ”That’s too vicious!” Then, after a thought, he looked at Ye Xuan with a flattering smile, ”Boss, is it true that Luo Ye is going to be our sister-in-law?”

Ye Xuan glanced at him expressionlessly, ”What do you think?”

”Heh... hehe... heh...”

Shao Bo laughed and slapped Ma Chong, ”Ma Chong, have you turned into an idiot? Do you still need to ask the Boss such questions? Obviously, Hang Menglin is just being a petty woman with psychological issues, deliberately picking on things. Consider Luo Ye’s age; is it even possible?”

Ye Xuan glanced at them, ”Don’t bring age into this.”

Everyone: ”...”

...

The 100-meter rapid-fire moving target setup was complete. Ye Xuan and Hang Menglin stood at the starting position, with the students lined up excitedly and expectantly behind them. They had seen the 100-meter moving rapid-fire shooting in movies and TV shows, and it looked cool! Now they were about to witness it live; how exciting!

Ye Xuan looked at Hang Menglin, ”Coach Hang, should I go first?”

”Go ahead!” Hang Menglin stretched out her hand.

Ma Chong and Shao Bo exchanged glances and shook their heads. This woman liked to compete at any cost, so how come she wasn’t contending now?

”Start timing!” Ye Xuan shouted.

Ma Chong quickly pressed the stopwatch as Ye Xuan charged forward, loaded the magazine, and threw himself to the ground. He flipped off the safety and took down the three targets that popped up in front and to the sides. Getting up, he moved forward with the gun, hitting targets that sprang up in various directions.

Ye Xuan was moving so fast that not only the students but even Ma Chong and the others were dazzled. They sneaked a glance at Hang Menglin’s expression, which had become somewhat serious.

Ye Xuan did a roll and came up in a crouch, and the target that popped up about a meter away fell to the ground—100-meter moving rapid-fire shooting completed!

”21 seconds! All hits!” Ma Chong’s voice trembled with excitement; the Boss had improved again. 21 seconds for 100 meters and 30 steel targets, that’s inhuman speed. Let’s see how that female Yama can be arrogant now!

”Wow wow wow...” As Ye Xuan returned with his weapon raised, a round of warm applause erupted. It was in this moment that many students truly fell in love with the military profession, and the cool, handsome image of the chief instructor walking in his special combat camouflage uniform was etched in the minds of the students. Compared to the chief instructor, what were the SEALs in American movies?

Approaching the starting line, Ye Xuan nodded towards Hang Menglin, ”Coach Hang, your turn!”

Hang Menglin snorted, ”Don’t get smug just yet. As long as I’m within 5 seconds slower than you, I can be your assistant!”

Ma Chong and the others simultaneously covered their foreheads; being targeted by someone like her felt even more disgusting than being watched by a toad. Can’t she see that no one likes her? Why is she so eager to force herself upon us?

”Start timing!”

As soon as the words were spoken, Hang Menglin charged out. It turned out this woman was not just good at nitpicking—her movements, lying down, getting up, rolling, and crawling, were clean and efficient, to the point that it was hard to tell who was stronger, her or Ye Xuan, just by observation.

With the last target down, everyone looked nervously at Ma Chong.

Ma Chong smiled revealing his teeth, ”27 seconds! All hits!” It was over five seconds, and of course, he was happy.

”There’s something wrong with the time!” Hang Menglin yelled, even before anyone could speak. The students were about to clap but stopped abruptly. What’s going on?

Ma Chong frowned, ”Coach Hang, you should accept the loss fair and square. A soldier should have the courage to take responsibility. Behaving loosely and shamelessly isn’t becoming of a soldier, is it?”

Hang Menglin ignored Ma Chong and looked straight at Ye Xuan, ”The timer was one of your men. I don’t believe it. I want to try a different method. Do you dare?”

”Fine!” Ye Xuan couldn’t be bothered to argue. What’s the use of arguing with such a person?

”Let’s have Yu Na and Luo Ye compete in a 100-meter rapid-fire shooting. You and I will keep time simultaneously. Yu Na is my student and can represent me, while Luo Ye... if you think it’s inappropriate, you can have another student participate instead.”

The instructors suddenly understood; that’s why she confronted Boss Ye, questioning why he trained Luo Ye alone. She had this in mind, this woman, can’t even begin to describe her!

Xing Nong quietly poked Luo Ye, ”Luoluo, why do I feel that the female Yama really dislikes you? How did you offend her? It’s so strange!”

Bai Qingchu leaned over and whispered, ”Because Luoluo is the prettiest, and she’s psychologically twisted.”

Luo Ye quickly shushed the two, ”Stop talking, she’s watching us. Be careful, or she’ll add ten more laps.”

”Luo Ye!”

”Present!”

Luo Ye quickly stepped out of the ranks and came to Ye Xuan’s side, standing at attention and saluting.
