Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 302: Chapter 171-172: All Present / Preparing for Military Training 4

”I will, Mom’s greatest wish is to see me in military uniform. When she was young, her dream was to become a soldier, but family background didn’t allow it. So, she pinned all her hopes on me, and I definitely won’t let her down.”

...

Snip snip, long hair falls to the ground, a rite of passage for every long-haired girl entering the military academy. At the haircut scene, other than hair strewn all over the floor, there are the ”ying ying” sounds of crying.

The instructor and other officials are used to these scenes by now, not scolding nor advising, just letting it happen.

In less than two hours, the girls who were once green and svelte with flowing long hair, were uniformly turned into ”cabbage heads”. However, with this kind of haircut, it’s way too easy to distinguish beauty from ugliness – this hairstyle highlights all the flaws in one’s face.

Back in the dorms, the first thing for the girls was to look at themselves in the mirror. Three minutes later, Yao Juanjuan burst into tears: ”I don’t want to be Liu Hulan, why must I be cut this way?”

”What hairstyle did you want then?” Bai Qingchu said with a sigh, ”But it is indeed pretty ugly, our glorious image as female soldiers!”

”Luoluo, give me a trim, it’s too ugly.” Xing Nong pouted and put down the mirror, tugging on Luo Ye’s arm vigorously.

Luo Ye chuckled, ”It looks pretty good.” Xing Nong’s hair was quite fine and soft; now cut, it puffed up like a big umbrella cover, indeed it looked ”pretty good.”

”Annoying, I wish you could give me your hair.” Xing Nong, frustrated, tugged at Luo Ye’s hair: ”Life is so unfair, bestowing you with a beautiful face, a sexy figure, and even such good hair quality. I don’t want to live anymore!”

”Need a block of tofu to hit your head on?” Luo Ye giggled and pulled out a carving knife and scissors: ”If you want a haircut, sit down quickly, we will eat soon.”

Yao Juanjuan, who had stopped crying, glanced at Xing Nong, who was now draped in a cloth ready for a haircut: ”Luo Ye, is it possible that after the cut, Xing Nong can only ever wear a military cap?”

Luo Ye nodded: ”That’s a possibility, but she brought it upon herself, didn’t she?”

”I’m willing!” Xing Nong was all proud.

”Luo Ye, you’re amazing, you know how to do everything,” Li Qing admired while sitting on a little stool.

”Li Qing, don’t be too quick to praise. If you just handed me a carving knife or scissors, I can do it too,” Yao Juanjuan watched, eager to see the outcome.

Ten minutes later, looking at Xing Nong transformed from a country girl to a foreign-looking girl, Yao Juanjuan regretted her words enough to bite off her own tongue, Yaoguang sat down pretending to be serious: ”Luoluo, although my hair is short, give it a couple of snips.”

Luo Ye pushed Yaoguang aside: ”I’m going to trim my own hair; you hold the mirror for me. Don’t bring your tiny mirror, use Xing Nong’s huge one.”

If Luo Ye cutting Xing Nong’s hair was already surprising, now everyone watched in astonishment as Luo Ye, with flexible arms, snipped her own hair.

”Luo Ye, hehe...” Bai Qingchu came up, everyone has a love for beauty after all.

Luo Ye pointed to the stool: ”Sit down, anyone else who wants a cut just ’squeak’ out, and if you wait until I’ve put away the scissors, a ’squeak’ won’t help you then.”

After finishing with Bai Qingchu, seeing Li Qing too looking envious, Luo Ye pointed to the stool, and Li Qing’s happy eyebrows danced.

An hour later, the look of the girls in third class was clearly evident. Luo Ye, Xing Nong, Yaoguang, Bai Qingchu and Li Qing sported uniquely fashionable short hair, while Yao Juanjuan, Yu Na, and Miaomiao were left with their ’cabbage head’ cuts – without comparison, they didn’t look that ugly.

Miaomiao had barely spoken since reporting in last night; when people asked why she was late, she only mentioned there were family issues, and if pressed further, she’d stay silent.

Therefore, Luo Ye did not take the initiative to offer her a haircut, and Yao Juanjuan and Yu Na were even less likely to ask.

At lunch, the hairstyles of Luo Ye and the others drew envious glances from the girls, Yao Juanjuan couldn’t hold back anymore and sidled next to Luo Ye: ”Luoluo, could you give me a trim too?”

”No trimming,” Luo Ye glanced at her: ”I’ve stopped cutting.”

”Don’t cut it then, I will go to the barbershop, they will definitely do a better job than you,” Yao Juanjuan quickly finished her meal, looking at Yu Na on the side: ”Class leader, let’s go get a haircut together?”

Yu Na shook her head: ”No need, it looks pretty good as it is.”

”Miaomiao, will you go with me?” Yao Juanjuan approached Miaomiao.

”Sorry, I won’t go out.”

”Fine, I’ll go by myself.”

...

GF University nurtures talents for various military branches, hence, during the opening ceremony, members of all branches gather in uniform; that solemn and sacred feeling is hard to experience without being there personally.

”I swear, of my own volition I become a student of GF University, follow the leadership of the Communist Party of China, love my country, study diligently, observe discipline, comply with management; not fear hardship, be brave and tenacious; unite and assist, coexist harmoniously....”

The solemn oath stirred a sense of honor and passion in everyone’s hearts, and from this day forward, everyone became a real soldier!

After the ceremony ended, each team took the students back to their own ’territory’, with the captain and instructor arranging the next steps. Xiang Mingliang stood in front of the team, his expression serious: ”From today on, you are real soldiers, everything must be constrained by military rules. During the acting period, the temporary class leaders must lead by example.

The official class leader will be selected by name-voting by class members after military training; these three months, everyone must perform well. Your grades and the ultimate election will determine who will be the real leader of each class. Do you all have confidence?”

”Yes!”

”Our school’s military training is always taken seriously by the leadership. This time, A Military’s elite special forces will be responsible for the training; they are famous for their rigorous training. You all need to be mentally prepared. Now, let Instructor Ye explain the details to you.”

Ye Qingzhu swept a cold glance over the group: ”During military training, everyone must fully comply with the instructor’s demands, including Captain Xiang and myself, nobody can interfere. So that’s all I’ll say for now, go back early today to prepare yourselves, both physically and mentally; I don’t want to see any deserters!”
