Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 237: Chapter 144: Forgiveness/Return

A group returned to the Wen Mansion, where the patriarch was unusually sitting in the hall chatting with the old lady. Eldest Aunt and the second uncle were sitting to the side, smiling with their eyes squinted, with no sign of tension at all.

After exchanging greetings with the elders, Luo Feng quietly approached Luo Ye: ”Ye’er, after a trip to Grandpa’s place, I’ve suddenly realized that we really haven’t experienced much.”

”Yes, being born into such a prominent family, it’s inevitable to encounter extraordinary things. But this time is indeed special. If money is what most people covet, then power is something that can make certain people go mad.”

”Are you saying that everything they’ve done is because of that so-called rumor about Xiao Hu being on the dragon vein?”

Ye nodded: ”It’s highly likely. At their level, money scarcely piques their interest anymore. They might not worry about small power, but they’ll fight for greater power. However, it’s all temporary. Dragon veins, in their view, are what they can trust forever.”

”But the one who proposed to buy the mansion is from the provincial government, meaning it’s an action of the government. It implies that besides the Wen Family, no one else could move in. It doesn’t make sense, does it?”

”Brother, there is nothing that doesn’t make sense. Everyone would be at peace only if they had no ulterior motives. Understand?”

”It’s totally irrational!” Luo Feng had an extreme disdain for this kind of mentality.

”Brother, for those who believe in it, the divination is like a curse. Plus, with the Six Great Families, outsiders can only see the facade, including the rankings.

In truth, who the true first, second, and third are, besides the core members of the Six Great Families, probably no one really knows. From what we’ve seen after coming here, I suspect that the Wen Family might not be just third. Don’t forget, in Beijing, there’s also Second Grandpa’s family, who also have an ancestral mansion. Their own strength, combined with the dragon vein, will cause some people sleepless nights.”

Luo Feng frowned and pondered for a while, ”So, it means without selling the mansion, peace will be hard to achieve?”

”Not necessarily. With absolute power, some people will just keep their heads down. But with this comes other considerations...forget it.” Luo Ye waved his hand: ”It’s not a problem we can solve. Grandpa has his ways. The Wen Family has been standing for so many years; it won’t be toppled by a few storms.”

Luo Feng laughed: ”That’s true. After all, we don’t understand all the nuances and the true strength. Perhaps we’re worrying over nothing.”

”Mom, it won’t do. I can’t leave now. I won’t go no matter what. I’m a part of the Wen Family. I’ve been a deserter in the past, but not this time!” While the siblings were whispering, suddenly they heard their mom shouting loudly.

From Mom’s tone, it seemed Grandpa had suggested their family should leave, and Mom was not pleased.

Old Master Wen looked sternly at his excited daughter: ”Wen Xin, you’re married now. It’s your duty to take care of your husband’s family. What use is there for you to stay here? Pack your things and take the kids back home.

Zhenggang, I had you join the Wen Family meetings and familiarize yourself with our situation, hoping you could distinguish friend from foe, to avoid being trapped by some people. If anything happens here, I’ll communicate with you in time. Now, that’s all I have to say, go on.”

The old man was surprisingly decisive, wanting to send his daughter and son-in-law away with just a few words. Luo Bai, Luo Tong, Li Niangying, and all the younger generation sat with their heads down, clearly understanding that it was not their place to interject at this time.

”Dad, I know I can’t be of much help, but I just want to stay here, to stay with you, Mom, eldest brother, sister-in-law, second brother, and all the nieces and nephews. This way, I’ll feel better.

You can rest assured that Zhenggang will take Ye’er and Feng’er away. Once things here settle down, I will leave immediately. Dad, please give your daughter this chance.” Wen Xin kneeled down and wept in front of the old man.

”You...” The old master turned his head and looked at the window in silence for a long time: ”Go back. I’ll give you a clear answer, I’ve forgiven you for the past, you’re still my daughter.

Come back with the kids and visit me and your mother more often in the future. Don’t get involved in the current situation. This is a critical time for Zhenggang—it hasn’t been easy for him up to this point. Being labeled too clearly isn’t necessarily a good thing for him. Your intention, Dad understands and accepts it. Get up now, be obedient.”

The younger members of the Wen Family were surprised by the old man’s words. ”Be obedient,” coming from the old master’s mouth, was as if the sun had risen from the west.
