Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 207: Chapter 132: Letting Go (Part 3)

Qian Mei couldn’t tell Dr. Su the specifics of her condition, but she felt there was some truth in his words. Thus, even during the examination, she insisted on staying by Qian Mei’s side, hoping to truly make her feel warmth and the courage to live on.

Feeling Luo Ye’s breathing become gradually deep and steady, Qian Mei quietly opened her eyes, turned her head, and stared at Luo Ye’s delicate and charming face, a flicker of deep guilt in her eyes.

She couldn’t understand why she was so good to her; it definitely wasn’t an act, that much she believed. However, she really had no desire to live on. Her goal had been achieved, so what was the point of her living? What meaning was there left?

Her body was already filthy beyond redemption, and her soul had died. She just wanted to escape into the boundless darkness. Whether or not she could see her family, she no longer wanted to stay in this world.

She extended her pale and frail hand, wanting to touch that tender face, but ultimately stopped mid-air, sighing softly, and forced herself to sit up straight to start undoing her abdominal bandage.

”Do you want to rip open your wound and die from infection?” Luo Ye’s voice, filled with anger, startled Qian Mei. She was so absorbed in what she was doing that she didn’t notice when Luo Ye had woken up.

”Luo Ye, you know everything I’ve been through. You should understand that death is much easier for me than living. Even if others don’t know what I’ve done these past years, even if the public only knows that the company I worked for is suspected of corruption and it has nothing to do with me, I can’t lie to my own heart.

Over these years, to achieve my goal, I’ve completely cast aside my shame. Death is the best way for me to repent! The only thing I regret is accepting your care these past days.

I know you were busy with exams. I’m truly touched. If it weren’t for the fact that I wasn’t strong enough to do this a few days ago, I wouldn’t have delayed your time!”

This was the first time Qian Mei spoke after waking up, and Luo Ye was actually less worried. She was willing to talk and explain, which was good!

What she feared was if Qian Mei became so despondent that she couldn’t see anyone’s love and kept playing the silent, repetitious game of shutting people out and attempting suicide. She couldn’t always be by her side, could she? And what would be the point of living life being watched twenty-four hours a day?

”Death is indeed easier than living. I’ve already said too many words of persuasion. When it comes to suffering, there are those heavier and lighter than yours, and you should understand all the reasons without me saying them.

Now, I want to say, nobody knows what it’s like after a person dies. So, are you willing to give yourself a chance to live again?

Your past life was lived for the sake of hatred and revenge, never for yourself. Can you, after bringing down your enemy, live for yourself?”

”Live for myself?” Qian Mei paused: ”Family, love, friendship, and career are the main pillars that support a person’s will to live. Family, I have no one to turn to; love, I no longer expect or deserve in this life; friendship, I haven’t had friends these years; career, what’s the point of it if I’m all alone?”

Luo Ye firmly held Qian Mei’s hand: ”If you are willing, please be my sister. If you are willing, help me look after my company. When love comes, don’t hide away; try to let yourself be happy, can you?”

Qian Mei’s indifferent gaze softened a bit: ”Why are you so good to me? With your background, plenty of people would want to help you. Why acknowledge me as a sister with an unclear and murky past?”

”Even though we come from different family backgrounds, our hatred is the same. If this time I hadn’t brought him to justice, my future might not be much better than yours.

I do this to fulfill my own wish, not to help you. There’s no need for gratitude, really!”

”I know. Some things can’t be clearly explained. Truly, I wouldn’t do this just out of gratitude. If you have the courage, let yourself live and see if what I’m saying is true or false.”

Qian Mei quickly lowered her gaze: ”I’m going to sleep!”

”Okay, easy now.” After helping Qian Mei lie down, she rapidly turned her head away to fake sleep. Luo Ye sighed with compassion, holding Qian Mei’s hand, just sitting there quietly. If before, she sought her out just for a collaboration to defeat their common enemy, now, it was genuine pity she felt for her, who was just like her past self, only even more miserable.

”Believe it or not, I truly will treat you as my sister, and I hope you will be happy, you must be...”

...

Half-asleep, Luo Ye felt someone gently stroking her hair, the touch as if afraid to startle her, careful and tender. The moment her thoughts returned, Luo Ye opened her eyes in surprise. Indeed, Qian Mei was gently touching her forehead, her eyes full of laughter and tenderness.
