Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 203: Chapter 131: Awakening

Luo Ye held the packet of stir-fried ”premium” chestnuts (Old Mr. Liu said if she didn’t take them, it meant she thought the premium chestnuts he bought weren’t tasty, awkward!) and quickly sneaked into the kitchen, lowering her voice, ”Mom, what kind of crazy is he on today? Could it be... he’s already caught them?”

Wen Xin playfully glared at her daughter, ”This girl, after all, he’s of such an age, you mustn’t talk nonsense! I’m not sure what the exact situation is. Your Grandpa Liu arrived before five o’clock and has been beating around the bush, trying to cozy up to me. I really couldn’t handle it, so I hid in the kitchen!”

”Something’s off, he wouldn’t come and play these empty games if he didn’t know something,” Luo Ye pondered with her chin propped on her hand, ”Dad’s not back; I probably won’t get anything out of him. I’ll call someone who knows.”

”Don’t make things difficult for your dad...” Wen Xin’s face was full of helplessness. This girl, she runs off like she’s flying; with the blink of an eye, she’s gone, and Wen hadn’t even finished speaking!

”Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable...” The mechanical female voice coming from the handset made Luo Ye somewhat anxious. How could Ye Xuan’s phone possibly be unreachable?

He was watching over this matter to help her family; if something unexpected happened... Luo Ye dared not think further and hurriedly dialed Jiang Zheng’s number. Thankfully, Jiang Zheng picked up after two rings, ”Ye’er, what’s up?”

Luo Ye got even more anxious. How could he possibly not know what’s up with her? A classic case of playing dumb! ”Uncle Jiang, why can’t I reach Brother Ye’s phone?”

”Little girl, finally couldn’t hold it in? I was wondering why it took you so long to call me!” Jiang Zheng’s light chuckle eased Luo Ye’s anxiety significantly. If something had really happened to Ye Xuan, Jiang Zheng wouldn’t be in the mood to laugh.

”Uncle Jiang, I’ve been waiting for your news. When I got back from school, I found Grandpa Liu at my house, buttering up Grandpa with his chatter. With his personality, he wouldn’t do this unless he had something to ask of my dad.”

Jiang Zheng chuckled, ”Ye’er guessed right. Liu Zhengxing and Liu Song are both caught, although it took some effort. I have to say, it’s lucky we discovered this in time. If it had been delayed for a few more years, the capture would have been much more difficult.”

”Any casualties?” Luo Ye’s heart rose again.

”Some injuries, but no deaths!”

With a sense of resignation, Luo Ye scratched her head, ”Uncle Jiang, please stop making me ask for every piece of information. Just tell me what’s going on, I’m dying of anxiety!”

”Heh..., Little Ye’er, are you worried that the injured might be Ye Xuan?” Obviously, Jiang Zheng was quite enjoying teasing her.

”Uncle Jiang!”

Listening to Luo Ye’s changed tone of angry yelling, Jiang Zheng said with a laugh, ”Alright, alright, you’ve been involved in this matter all along, so it’s fine for you to know the details.

On the night before his arrest, Liu Zhengxing, figuring he couldn’t escape death, called upon his underground forces hidden in Island City for many years to cover the escape of the father and son duo by sea. Ye Xuan and Director Zhu from the city bureau intercepted them near the South Korean border.

During the capture, there was a fierce battle. Ye Xuan’s phone was smashed while saving Director Zhu Guohong of the city bureau. Don’t worry, apart from a policeman who was shot in the leg and Zhu Guohong who suffered a graze wound on his arm, no one else was injured!”

Luo Ye let out a sigh of relief, followed by dissatisfaction, ”If you had made it clear earlier, it would have been fine. Keeping me guessing the whole time, Uncle Jiang is becoming more and more excessive!”

Jiang Zheng teased her with a laugh, ”You ungrateful girl, why do you only call Ye Xuan and not Uncle Jiang when something happens?”

”It’s because Brother Ye is closer to me in Island City, that’s why I called him. Uncle Jiang, you really like to nitpick, don’t you? By the way, does Liu Zhengxing’s family know about his arrest?”

”They know, there was a search at his house last night. That Old Mr. Liu probably went to seek help from your dad,” Jiang Zheng paused then continued, ”If your dad isn’t home, he probably will come to ask you.”

Luo Ye was stunned before she understood. Her status was that of the prospective granddaughter-in-law of the Ye Family. Given Old Mr. Liu’s style, it was indeed possible he would make such a move. And she could be sure that when Old Mr. Liu came, he probably tried to bring Nie Cui and Liu Xing with him, only to be refused by the two.

Nie Cui must have long been aware of Liu Zhengxing and Liu Song’s doings, but since she couldn’t dissuade them, she had to turn a blind eye. Now that their actions were exposed, given her character, she wouldn’t seek help from anyone for quite some time!

And Liu Xing, who had a deep affection for her and disliked his father and brother’s behavior, would certainly be reluctant to beg on their behalf for a while.

”Captain Jiang, soon to enter the city area...”

Listening to the conversation on the other end of the phone, Luo Ye quickly understood, ”Uncle Jiang, have you entered Daocheng City yet?”
