Rebirth in the 90s: Her Counterattack and Redemption

Chapter 215: Chapter 135: A Tale of Two Households (Part 2)

Sister Li, who had been hesitating at the kitchen door, quickly handed the broom to Yang Xing and walked over to Wang Liqing, muttering, ”Madam, I’ve cleaned everything up.”

Wang Liqing stared sternly at Sister Li: ”Don’t talk nonsense about household matters, understand?”

”Understood, Madam, I’m leaving.” Sister Li fled from the Yang Family like escaping from a cage, terrified by the stifling atmosphere of the past few days.

...

The atmosphere in the Luo Family was the exact opposite of the Yang Family, filled with joy and celebration. After Luo Zhenggang returned home, he and Seventh Uncle Ye locked themselves in the study for half an hour and came out looking even more radiant.

Luo Ye had been worried that her father would reject this form of promotion, but now she was finally relieved. It seemed that in his previous life, dad really had the will but not the strength, leading many things to go awry; actually, he wasn’t that rigid.

Such a great joy naturally called for a celebration. Luo Ye and Wen Xin were busy in the kitchen, and Luo Feng also joined in on the fun. Since the start of school, he had become the vice president of the student council, and he had been so busy that he rarely came home early. Today was a rare early return, and it coincided with this happy event.

Seeing Mom picking up several bright red tomatoes, Luo Feng quickly volunteered, ”Mom, I’ve learned how to cut tomato flowers. Let me make the tomato salad!”

”Okay, you take care of this; we’ll also taste Feng’er’s culinary skills.”

Luo Ye disdainfully curled her lip, ”Mom, is that called skill? It’s just slicing and adding some sugar. Brother, if you really want to show sincerity, learn to cook some dishes our family likes to eat, like spicy boiled fish, boiled pork slices, spicy grilled shrimp, sauce pork feet... etc., that would really show sincerity.”

Luo Feng scratched his head speechlessly, ”Ye’er, if I learned all these, wouldn’t I be able to work as a chef in a hotel?”

”A top chef isn’t so easy to become, you’re really underestimating the skill involved. Take spicy boiled fish and pork, for example, everyone knows all the steps and the most crucial step affecting the taste of the dish is the final pouring of hot oil over chili and Sichuan peppercorns. But why do different people’s dishes taste different?”

”Hmm, you speak so professionally. Ye’er, let’s make spicy boiled fish today, I just bought a more than two-pound blackfish that hasn’t been eaten yet, it’s all yours.” Wen Xin said as she took the fish out of the refrigerator, cleaned it in a basin, and handed it to her daughter, ”Make it tasty, otherwise, I may start suspecting you only talk the talk!”

Luo Ye grimaced, ”Mom, you’re torturing a minor.”

”Minor? You still claim... Ah, here comes Uncle Song’s family.”

Just as Wen Xin finished speaking, Wang Qi and Pan Jie had already arrived in the kitchen.

”Feng’er, the tomato flowers you cut look pretty, unlike our Song Meng, who can only smash a cucumber and can’t cook anything else. Yo, Ye’er, what are you up to?”

Luo Ye tapped the back of the fish with the knife, ”Aunt Song, my mom asked me to cook the spicy boiled fish, just dumped this fish on me. I’m figuring out where to start cutting.”

”Your mom is just teasing you. Here, let Auntie do it. You and Feng’er go out and play, we’ll handle the kitchen.” Wang Qi said as she pushed Luo Ye and Luo Feng outside.

”Sister-in-law, let her do it. She was boasting quite a bit just now. Take Pan Jie and sit outside; it’s not good for a bride who hasn’t even had her honeymoon yet to engage in kitchen work.”

Pan Jie smiled gently, ”Auntie, it’s not that serious. If you don’t let me help, it would mean you think I can’t cook well. Ye’er is so young, it’s not good for her to do these tasks. Let me help you and my mom together.”

”Sister-in-law, that’s kind of you. Aunt Song, aren’t you delighted to have a daughter-in-law like her?”

”Yes...”

The siblings exchanged a few polite words before joining the lively scene in the living room. Luo Ye, turning around, happened to see Pan Jie smiling and talking behind Wang Qi and nudged Luo Feng, ”Bro, this is what they mean by marrying a virtuous wife.”

”Ye’er, I find it a bit strange. I kind of understand dad’s situation now, but how come Ye Xuan, the major contributor, hasn’t shown up yet?”

Luo Ye rolled her eyes at her brother, ”Pfft, you always divert the topic whenever this comes up. Ye Xuan’s case isn’t concluded yet, and during this process, they aren’t in contact with the outside world. Are you satisfied with this answer?”

”Satisfied.” Luo Feng patted Song Meng sitting next to him, ”Brother Song, your wife isn’t going anywhere, why are you always eagerly looking towards the kitchen? Can’t bear to be apart for even a short while?”

”Uh... Luo Feng, coming from Luo Ye, I wouldn’t be surprised, but you really have changed a lot!”

”Agreed!” Luo Ye nodded her small head in agreement; her brother indeed was becoming more manly.

The dinner was lavish, the atmosphere was lively, the food was delicious, and everyone was happy. However, there was a small mishap: Luo Feng’s tomato flower had forgotten a cut at the base, making it a true decoration, pleasing to the eyes but not edible.

Feeling very good and slightly tipsy, Grandpa Luo smacked his lips, ”My grandson’s first dish, what a pity it can’t be tasted!”

”You really wanted to taste it that much?” Luo Ye said as she took out a fruit knife from her pocket, held up the plate, and swiftly made a few cuts, ”Grandpa, although my granddaughter also helped, the main labor was still my grandson’s. Please have a taste.”

Seventh Uncle Ye nodded in satisfaction, ”Not bad, Ye’er didn’t slack off. Luo Feng, go run a few more laps with Big White and Big Yellow tomorrow!”

”Ah...” Luo Feng’s face fell. Having a capable sister, was it a blessing or a curse?
