I Can Gain One Skill Point Per Second

Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Fireflies Rushing Toward the Flame, a Song of Courage!

”Insect Mother... you’re referring to the Empress of the Black Scythe Insect swarm, aren’t you?”

Terence murmured.

Lin Yi nodded.

It seems his gamble of coming to find the resistance this time might actually pay off.

As a native of Isidna, and having fought against the swarm for so many years, his understanding of them must be deeper than his own.

”The Empress of the swarm can only exist in one place, and that is the Mother Tree, Yogda Hill!”

”A century ago, it could only depend on the Life Force of the Mother Tree to continuously birth insect offspring. Once it leaves Yogda Hill, it should perish quickly.”

Lin Yi wasn’t too surprised by this answer.

Previously, when he invaded the mind network of the swarm, he had seen the giant World Tree.

”I know it’s there, the question now is, where is Yogda Hill,” Lin Yi voiced the core issue.

Just over a day ago, Lin Yi not only sent the swarm to search for the traces of Isidna’s resistance army.

He also followed the underground tunnels he had seen before, intending to trace the source and find the convergence point of all the underground tunnels.

That should be the location of the World Tree.

However, this method ultimately failed.

It seems the swarm deliberately obscures the true location of the World Tree.

A trace of guilt appeared on Terence’s face: ”Once, the Mother Tree, Yogda Hill was in the north of our Isidna continent. Our civilization and everything in the world originated there.”

”But after the swarm invaded, the entire Yogda Hill has turned into their insect nest.”

”A century ago, when our resistance army was still millions strong, we launched a prolonged war of extermination.”

”We aimed to kill the Empress of the swarm in one fell swoop.”

”That battle was extremely tragic; we killed the strongest Insect Emperor, Yikes, birthed by the Empress.”

”But at the same time, we suffered heavy losses. Under the distraction of Yikes, the Empress managed to escape by luck.”

”Since then, the swarm has been transforming Yogda Hill, and even managed to move it across the continent.”

”About thirty years ago, I once again went to the original location of Yogda Hill, where there was indeed a Mother Tree, but it was entirely an illusion, a trap!”

”The real Yogda Hill, where it is now, we... also don’t know...”

Terence lowered his head.

In the end, it seemed they still couldn’t help Lord Knight Tianqi.

At this moment, Simon, the adjutant behind Terence, stepped forward a few steps, saluted Lin Yi, and then said, ”Lord Tianqi, may I ask how you managed to enslave so many of the swarm.”

”As far as I know, the swarm communicates and connects through a special neural mind network.”

”Can you use this to explore the true location of the Empress?”

Lin Yi shook his head: ”I do have a way to enslave some middle-management of the swarm as my servants and connect to their mind network.”

”But attempting to use the network to explore information about the Empress will lead to expulsion.”

Terence and Simon looked at each other upon hearing this.

The methods of this Lord Knight Tianqi left them astounded.

But the next moment, Terence shuddered.

That prophecy kept echoing in his mind.

Meanwhile, Simon, standing behind him, suddenly brightened up, trembling with excitement: ”I think I’ve found a way...”

”Terence, Lord Tianqi, please follow me.”

Lin Yi didn’t know what method they had thought of, but followed Terence and Simon to the tent.

Simon pulled out a box from the armory and placed it before Terence.

”Simon, what is this...?”

Simon took a hammer, inserted the electric wire connected to the hammer into the charging port, and charged the hammer.

Then he fiercely smashed the black lock on the box!

The sturdy chitinous lock, under the effect of the electric current, instantly became brittle and broke apart.

Simon opened the box.

A pungent stench wafted out.

The box contained black insect eggs that lightly trembled.

”These are... Fallen Worm Eggs! Simon, how do you have these things!”

Simon endured the stench, reached into the box, picked up a black insect egg, and examined it with fervor in his eyes: ”Remember the battle in Nickton five years ago? Back then, we found over a hundred boxes of these things.”

”You ordered their destruction, but Will begged me, saying he wanted to study these eggs and conduct experiments, so I hid from you and let him keep them.”

A trace of reminiscence appeared in Terence’s eyes.

Will...

He was the smartest person in the Ninth Legion; most of the steam mechas they wore now were his creations.

Sadly, he’s dead.

”These Fallen Worm Eggs can make a person transform into those creepy half-human, half-insect forms quickly, only traitors would choose to ingest them.”

”But Will’s research and transformation of these eggs never stopped.”

”Half-Insect Soldiers have combat power far stronger than when we don our mechas.”

”His idea back then was if we can erase the swarm’s control over the half-insect soldiers and allow some of our legion’s injured and disabled to voluntarily consume the modified eggs, maybe they could become a special combat force.”

”Unfortunately, his research always remained superficial without any opportunity for human experimentation.”

”Until two years ago, a wounded soldier from our legion was on the verge of death.”

”He was Will’s close friend, and before dying, he decided to help Will test his research results.”

”So, he consumed the modified Fallen Worm Eggs by Will.”

”His injuries healed in a very short time, and he could even connect to the swarm’s mind network, gaining substantial intelligence about the swarm.”

”Sadly, just when Will thought he succeeded, 2 minutes later, his close friend went completely mad, transforming into a monster like those half-insect soldiers...”

”In the end, Will shot his close friend seven or eight times in the head, then collapsed on his corpse, crying in agony.”

”Since then, all his research results were sealed away by him. After he died in battle, I never destroyed these items and kept them until now...”

After hearing Simon’s account.

Terence was immensely shocked.

”Simon, what... what do you want to do?”

Simon held the insect egg firmly: ”I think our final existence in the prophecy is to buy time for Lord Tianqi!”

Lin Yi had been watching from the side and now had a hint of a guess.

Simon continued: ”I’m no longer afraid of death; Terence, I bet you’re not either.”

”Or rather, our brothers fighting beside us until now are no longer afraid of death either!”

”I will swallow these Fallen Worm Eggs. In the 2 minutes I can still preserve my own will, I’ll launch a self-destructive bombardment on the whole swarm’s mind network, disrupting the managers’ minds.”

”And let Lord Tianqi find the true location of Yogda Hill!”

Simon laid out his entire plan.

Lin Yi was deeply moved.

They were resisting until now, not wanting to survive in humiliation!

They just wanted to leave a spark of hope for their civilization, to pave a way forward!

And at this moment, they were willing to swallow eggs that would turn them into monsters, all for burning two minutes of life to guide his path!

Lin Yi couldn’t articulate the complex emotions in his heart.

Though he knew this was just a replica.

And knew he would eventually return to Blue Star.

But the courage and fearlessness displayed by the last surviving humans in this world profoundly moved him!
