Martial Arts: I Have Diligence Reward System

Chapter 52: Chapter 46: The Braised Egg Is Dead

The people from the funeral home were leaving one after another. Su Yue left with them, but he didn’t go back to the city.

The backyard of the funeral home was a place where people could burn paper—this was a way of remembrance in the technological age, a tradition some people still carried on.

However, Su Yue didn’t burn any paper. He picked up a pen used to write the names of the deceased and drew a head on the ground, with nine strands of hair on top.

”Are you Su Yue from the Second High School?”

”I’m Liao Ji.”

A young boy dressed in camouflage walked over to Su Yue’s side.

”Liao Ji?”

Su Yue frowned.

The one from the Third High, with a Qi Blood value of 16 cards.

”Gee, are you worshiping a salted egg?

”A moldy salted egg?”

Looking at the abstract drawing in front of Su Yue, Liao Ji could only interpret it this way.

Maybe Su Yue had an eccentricity; he raised a salted egg that got moldy and accidentally died?

”I wouldn’t call it worship; it’s just a reminder of some things.”

Su Yue chuckled.

He didn’t even understand himself why he would draw Dr. Jiu Mao here.

Perhaps it was to commemorate his thoughts.

If given the chance to go to hell, Su Yue would obliterate even the soul of Dr. Jiu Mao into ashes.

But the man’s vision of peace was worth a moment of Su Yue’s remembrance.

Peace.

Really is the most wonderful thing in the world.

”A student from the Second High can cultivate up to 18 cards of Qi and Blood; I’m really impressed.”

Liao Ji continued.

”Mmm, that’s indeed worth your admiration.”

Su Yue nodded.

Liao Ji was baffled by the response.

The protocol is for you to be humble first, casually praise my 16 cards as not easy either, then we engage in mutual compliments, exchange WeChat, and become friends, right?

”Are you here to burn paper?”

Feeling a bit awkward, Su Yue suddenly asked.

The backyard was filled with the smell of burnt paper. A gust of wind blew over, giving off an eerie chill, not a place people usually came to for no reason.

”I’m working part-time at the funeral home; saw you from upstairs and decided to come down for a chat.”

Said Liao Ji.

”Part-time?”

Su Yue was taken aback.

A high school student working part-time at a funeral home?

”Yeah, I can help bathe the dead, do makeup, sometimes assist the Investigation and Arrest Bureau with autopsies, occasionally help retrieve bodies from the reservoir, and in case of a fire, carry out the burned corpses.

”Do you find this job bizarre?

”Honestly, I do too. But my family says that as a martial artist, I’ll inevitably go to the battlefield, so getting used to the dead early would help adapt to war quickly.

”Actually, I still don’t know what the battlefield is like; the damp environment can’t use cameras, so there are no direct images.

”To be honest,” dealing frequently with the dead and the pay isn’t high, it’s really distressing.”

Once he started talking, Liao Ji complained continuously.

”Not high pay? Mind shedding some light?”

Su Yue was rather sensitive to money matters.

But he figured it must be over ten thousand, considering the nature of the job dealing with the dead, something few people were willing to do.

”Uh, there’s nothing hidden about it; I’m part-time, so it’s variable and not stable, just over ten thousand.”

Liao Ji said.

”Can you... be more specific?”

Su Yue wanted to know how much over ten thousand, thinking he might want to do a part-time job as well.

”Uh, over sixty thousand.”

Su Yue wanted to kill Liao Ji.

You freaking... sixty thousand!

That’s just over ten thousand?

This guy is a mogul.

”Su Yue, don’t look just at my high pay, but I’m idle.

”This batch of bodies is said to have been injected with something by the Yangxiang Sect and will be transported to the Northern Imperial Capital. Therefore, I am even more free.

”Empty, not fulfilling. I just want to attend the Potential Class now, go to college now, and enter the damp areas now.”

Su Yue could predict this Liao Ji would surely get beaten up in the future.

With such a high salary, yet you complain about being idle.

At the same time, he felt lucky to have revived early; if transported to the Northern Imperial Capital, even if he had revived, he might have become an experimental subject on Earth.

”Can I work part-time here?”

Su Yue asked.

”No way.

”First, you are about to join the Potential Class, which is closed training, and I too have to give up my job.

”Second, the director of the funeral home is a friend of my mom’s, so they let me earn a full-time worker’s pay; theoretically, a part-time salary should be half.”

Liao Ji shook his head, and Su Yue sighed in regret.

Delivering food tirelessly, at best, he earned just over 9,000.

The gap was huge.

”Su Yue, work hard! Once the Potential Class starts, there will be an election for class president, and as the class president, I’ll lead everyone to get stronger, aiming for everyone to get into the top four universities next year.”

Liao Ji earnestly patted Su Yue’s shoulder.

”Class president?

”Is the head teacher of the Potential Class also a friend of your mom’s?”

Classes haven’t even started, and you already assume the role of class president?

Who’s got 18 cards of Qi Blood?

Did this joint exam top scorer agree?

”Not exactly; I don’t even know who the head teacher is.

”But the class president of the Potential Class will definitely be me; after all, I am capable, handsome, and naturally fit to be class president, which is also quite vexing for me.”

Liao Ji wore a melancholic look.

”What’s the basis for electing the class president?”

Su Yue asked.

”Of course, it’s strength; in this era, strength is what counts wherever you go.”

Liao Ping clenched his fists.

”But perhaps not; in terms of strength, I have 18 cards.

”Below me, there’s Liao Ping with 17 cards of Qi Blood.

”You might not even make vice president.”

Su Yue lamented that he had never come across such shamelessness.

”Su Yue, by saying so, you seem somewhat ignorant.

”Are you aware of Qi and Blood Martial Artists? Those who only have Qi Blood but do not understand combat techniques.”

Liao Ji questioned.

”I’ve heard a bit!”

Many officials, corporate executives, and entrepreneurs are Qi and Blood Martial Artists.

Like landlords, like Liang Youxin.

They want the status of a martial artist to enjoy certain policies, nothing more.

”Do you think Qi and Blood Martial Artists can defeat Warriors?”

Liao Ji asked.

”Of course not.”

Su Yue had trained in combat techniques.

Only someone who has truly trained would know the importance of combat techniques for a martial artist.

It’s like the analogy.

Qi Blood is a potato.

A plate of shredded potatoes tastes good, but a raw potato can’t be chewed at all.

”It’s time to show my power.”

Bang!

Liao Ji had a small folding knife on his waist.

With a crisp spring sound, the blade popped out.

Liao Ji moved his forearm with his upper arm and drew an arc in the air with the blade.

Swish.

Half a meter away, a three-centimeter-long knife mark appeared on the wall.

Indeed.

The blade didn’t even touch the wall, yet Liao Ji managed to cut out a shallow knife arc.

Very thin, very narrow.

”Is this... Gang Qi? Blade light? Blade Qi?”

Su Yue was shocked.

He had just seen with his eyes a crescent-shaped, palm-sized ripple flick from the tip of the knife.

It flashed and disappeared, but it was indeed there.

This wasn’t some cheap special effect worth five cents from a movie.

Sure enough, what Xu Baiyan and the others said was right; combat techniques were not that hard to master. Liao Ji had only 16 cards of Qi Blood, yet he learned combat techniques as well.

Thinking about himself with already 18 cards, yet his strides were unpredictable, Su Yue felt inferior once more.

Damn it.

Did God give me the system just to kill my comprehension talent?
