While I am in Reality, I Can Enter the Singularity Universe

60: Chapter 60: Sima Yan’s Tragic Past! The Ice Queen Xia Ya!Director An Lei walked around the counter displaying mobile phones.

He calmly approached the computer desk.

After operating it for a while, he opened the backend surveillance footage and began searching through it carefully.

”A young man around 20 years old, carrying vegetables and snacks in his hand... That’s right, it’s him!!”

Seeing a young man who looked emaciated, as if he had been malnourished for a long time, walking slowly through the surveillance footage forty-five minutes ago, a sharp glint flashed in Director An Lei’s eyes.

Zooming in on the image, Director An Lei saw the person’s blurry face.

He took a photo with his phone and sent it to a colleague on duty at the City Police Bureau.

”Hello, Xiao Zhang, it’s me.”

”I just sent you a picture. Please use the internal database to help me verify this person’s true identity and send the detailed information back to my phone.”

”Understood, Team Leader An!”

The call ended, and Director An Lei walked out of the mobile phone shop.

He entered the alley where the incident occurred.

Ding-ling.

Director An Lei’s phone rang.

He opened it to find that the colleague on duty had sent over the verified personnel information.

”...Sima Yan, male, 19 years old. His parents passed away when he was young. At the age of 12, his grandparents passed away one after another due to illness, and he was subsequently included in the category of social assistance recipients. At 14, he suffered school bullying in middle school; after mediation by teachers and the school, the perpetrators received Sima Yan’s ’forgiveness.’ During the summer vacation before starting high school at 15, while working a part-time job distributing flyers, he was beaten by a group of unknown thugs, resulting in a dislocated left leg. During his three years of high school, he suffered multiple instances of blatant school bullying again, and after further mediation by teachers and the school, the perpetrators received Sima Yan’s ’forgiveness.’ In last year’s college entrance exam, Sima Yan was admitted to an ordinary university, but he chose not to attend. It is suspected that because he reached adulthood, social assistance funds were no longer provided...”

After reading Sima Yan’s identity profile entered in the internal database, Director An Lei remained silent for a long time.

He leaned against a dilapidated wall by the alley, lit a cigarette, and smoked it in silence.

”Sigh...”

”The perpetrators deserved to die, but using his own methods to solve it was truly unwise...”

The next moment, Director An Lei shook his head bitterly, ”I overthought it. He must have tried to resolve it through official channels. The result is obvious, isn’t it? Many people thought this was just a small matter?”

”No wonder Sima Yan developed a ’dark personality.’ This is a form of schizophrenia, but isn’t it also, subconsciously... the only means to save himself?”

Soon, Director An Lei looked up at the gloomy, lightless night sky, his eyes becoming resolute, ”Since I have put on this uniform, I must live up to my conscience. No matter the reason, it is not an excuse for using the most cruel methods privately.”

Taking out his phone from his pocket again, Director An Lei dialed Little Princess’s number.

”Hello, Luo Qi, I’ve found the perpetrator’s identity on my end. Have you had any progress?”

”...Yes, but the families of the deceased are having trouble staying calm. They want us to give them an explanation, otherwise, they threaten to go to the City Police Bureau and cause a scene...”

Clang-bang!

The call was intermittent; the sound of women arguing could be heard from time to time, along with the sound of washbasins crashing to the ground.

”Alright, Luo Qi, no need to continue the interviews. You guys come back!”

”...Understood, we’re coming back now.”

Turning off his phone screen, a cold glint flashed in Director An Lei’s eyes.

Sometimes, the formation of delinquent youths is not just a result of their parents’ indulgence?

Just from the sound of that screaming and rolling on the ground, Director An Lei knew exactly what kind of people the parents of the three deceased were.

He turned and returned to the crime scene.

He handed Sima Yan’s identity information to Director Sun to read.

”What a bunch of damned guys!”

”Bullying someone from middle school until high school graduation wasn’t enough, they had to continue doing evil in society! These delinquent youths truly deserve their deaths!”

Director Sun’s eyes filled with anger as he cursed at the three corpses being collected.

Then, he turned his head and shouted angrily at the office secretary, ”Get the Kang’an District Bureau Chief ’Tian Fucheng’ to come here!”

”The case happened almost an hour ago, and this bucket of slop hasn’t arrived yet? If he doesn’t want to work, he can take his resignation and get out!”

”Sun... Director Sun, I’m here!”

In the alley, a fat middle-aged man, with his clothes not even properly worn, came running over, sweating profusely.

When he saw the two headless corpses on the ground, his face almost turned pale with fright.

”Tian Fucheng, do you not want to work anymore?”

”Haven’t I emphasized multiple times that when a major criminal case occurs, the responsible supervisor must arrive at the scene within fifteen minutes to handle potential risks?!”

”What were you doing, you bucket of slop?!”

Director Sun strode up to the fat middle-aged man and roared furiously.

”Sun... Director Sun, I had something to take care of in my hometown today, and I just rushed back from there.”

Tian Fucheng lowered his fat head and replied weakly, not daring to even breathe loudly.

”You want to lie to me, you bucket of slop?”

”Do you think I don’t know about the shady business you’ve been up to?”

Director Sun exuded full authority and said angrily, ”Let me tell you! In this matter, you won’t just be resigning in disgrace! Furthermore, due to your inaction, which led to frequent school bullying, you will definitely be prosecuted and imprisoned!”

”It won’t matter who tries to protect you!”

”...Director Sun, there’s no need to make such a big fuss, is there? It’s just a few delinquent youths who died...”

Tian Fucheng raised his fat eyebrows and spoke directly to Director Sun.

”Heh, you bucket of slop still haven’t seen the situation clearly.”

”Fine, after you’re in prison, you should be able to figure it out.”

Director Sun sneered, turned around, and walked toward Director An Lei, ignoring Tian Fucheng.

”Hmph, what are you acting so high and mighty for? Sooner or later, I will trample you, this ’failed magic duelist,’ under my feet!”

Tian Fucheng cursed under his breath, took a look at the somewhat eerie scene, and couldn’t help but shiver.

Then, he moved his fat body to a deserted corner.

He took out his phone and dialed a mysterious number within the province.

”Second Master, a few people died in my jurisdiction. Do you think it’s a big problem?”

”...Oh, when did it happen?”

An arrogant young voice came from the other end of the line.

”It hasn’t spread yet, right? This is a small matter, but your...”

”Hehe, Second Master, I understand, I understand! Rest assured, I guarantee I’ll give you a few more percent in tribute this month!”

”Haha, you are teachable!”

”...Eh? Isn’t that a Ministry of State Security car? Why are they here?”

When Tian Fucheng saw the special vehicle driving into the alley, his fat face was filled with confusion.

”...Damn!”

But a few seconds later, he heard a curse from the other end of the line, ”Don’t ever call me again!”

”Remember, I don’t know you, and you don’t know me!”

”Otherwise, don’t blame me for being impolite!”

”...Hello, Second Master? What are you talking about? I don’t understand?”

Beep, beep, beep.

Listening to the sound of the disconnected signal, Tian Fucheng’s fat face twitched a few times, and a sense of foreboding suddenly arose in his heart.

This matter, surely it hasn’t attracted the attention of the higher-ups, right?

”...It’s over, it’s over, it’s over—”

”Bang,” the phone fell to the ground, and Tian Fucheng’s legs went weak, causing him to collapse in the corner of the wall, his eyes filled with despair.

He was not only unclean but filthily corrupt. As long as they checked... he would be in prison for life!

...

Screech.

The vehicle stopped, and a man and a woman stepped out of the special vehicle.

”Hello, my name is ’Special Agent Xia Ya,’ and this is my colleague ’Cao Yan.’ We are the special personnel responsible for handling this anomaly.”

A woman with a high ponytail, a cold temperament, and wearing black high-top shoes saluted Director Sun and said.

”Hello, Special Agent Xia Ya, I will take you to the abandoned slab building where the perpetrator is hiding right now.”

Director Sun returned the salute with a hint of respect and led Special Agent Xia Ya and Cao Yan quickly toward the distance.

At this time, Little Princess also returned. Looking at the backs of Special Agent Xia Ya and the others leaving, she whispered to Director An Lei:

”Don’t you underestimate this female special agent. She is a true elite from that Mysterious Department, has executed countless dangerous missions, and can definitely beat several of you!”

”Oh, Luo Qi, how do you know?”

Director An Lei’s eyes moved as he asked.

”Her grandfather often comes to our house as a guest, so I have some understanding of this ice-cold beauty.”

”...”

Director An Lei was speechless, but immediately understood.

He had thought that, as a [Destined One], he should have the confidence to persuade Sima Yan to surrender, but since Special Agent Xia Ya was so extraordinary, she must have some unknown confidence as well.

Otherwise, it shouldn’t just be the two of them who came here, but the garrison would have been dispatched!
