Chapter 2642: Chapter 2642: Want To Thank Chang Yu Qian

Shi Yuan led Yu Qi and Grandpa Mu inside. As Grandpa Mu stepped into the mansion, he paused slightly, his eyes widening at the sight.

The interior was completely different from the outside. Bright colours filled the space, warm yellows, soft blues, playful drawings on the walls, and small decorations made by the children themselves. The faint, melodic sound of laughter echoed from deeper within the house.

It did not feel like a cold mansion. It felt like a true home. Grandpa Mu’s gaze lingered on the surroundings for a moment longer than usual.

Shi Yuan excused herself to call for her father-in-law. A few moments later, Chang Yu Qian appeared. There were still traces of dirt on his clothes, clearly showing that he had been working in the garden just moments before.

”Miss Yu Qi... It has been a long time.” Chang Yu Qian said, offering a warm smile.

”Hmm...” Yu Qi nodded. ”How is the orphanage?”

”It is great. The funds always arrive on time. Do you want to take a look at the ledger?” Chang Yu Qian asked.

No need. I trust you completely.” Yu Qi waved her hand dismissively. ”I just came to visit and to show my grandfather the orphanage that I have been supporting for so long.”

”You mean this gentleman...” Chang Yu Qian’s gaze shifted toward Grandpa Mu.

”Hmm... This is my biological grandfather, Mu Guang Qi.” Yu Qi formally introduced Grandpa Mu to Chang Yu Qian.

”Biological grandfather? Really?” Chang Yu Qian was visibly surprised by the revelation.

”Yeah... quite a surprise, right? I also did not expect to find my biological grandfather so suddenly. You know what? He is actually from the Fanghai Nation.” Yu Qi added.

”Eh? Is that so? Then how did the two of you meet?” Chang Yu Qian asked, his curiosity thoroughly piqued.

”I went to a medical conference at Fanghai Nation.” Yu Qi explained.

”One of my friends spotted her there. He noticed that Yu Qi strongly resembled my late wife, so he arranged a meeting for us. The two of us met and decided to conduct a paternity test. It turned out that this girl was indeed my granddaughter, the child of my missing son.” Grandpa Mu continued the story, his voice thick with emotion.

”Oh... So, because Yu Qi’s face resembled your late wife, you managed to recognise your granddaughter... That is a blessing. However, what do you mean by ’missing son’?” Chang Yu Qian asked, curious about those final words.

”My son went missing almost three decades ago. Even until now, I do not know whether he is still alive or not. However, since I have never seen his corpse, I want to believe that he is still alive somewhere in this world.” Grandpa Mu said.

Yu Qi remained silent as she listened to Grandpa Mu’s words. She knew, as an undeniable fact, that her parent was still alive, yet she did not dare to say anything to her grandfather just yet. She did not want him to be crushed by overwhelming disappointment if he were to discover that his son had joined such an organisation. Furthermore, she wanted to confirm their exact situation first before revealing anything to the old man, as she feared giving him false hope.

”I see. I am truly sorry to hear that.” Chang Yu Qian said softly, his tone carrying a trace of sympathy.

”It’s fine. Anyway, I want to thank you.” Grandpa Mu stated firmly, his expression steady despite the lingering sorrow in his eyes.

”Huh? Thank me? For what?” Chang Yu Qian asked, clearly confused by the sudden gratitude.

”Because of you, my granddaughter managed to grow up safely. Otherwise, she probably would have frozen to death back then. So, thank you very much.” Grandpa Mu said as he bowed his head deeply toward Chang Yu Qian, his gratitude sincere and heavy.

”There is no need to thank me... I only did what most people would have done at that time.” Chang Yu Qian replied, waving his hand modestly, though his expression softened.

Suddenly, Yu Qi’s phone began to ring, breaking the moment. She glanced down at the screen briefly.

”You two can continue talking. I am going to step away to answer this call.” Yu Qi said.

”Hmm...” Chang Yu Qian nodded in acknowledgement.

”Go ahead.” Grandpa Mu stated calmly.

Yu Qi stood up and walked away, putting some distance between herself and the two elderly men. She then pressed the receive button.

”Yes...” Yu Qi answered the call.

”Miss Yu Qi... regarding the connection that Chen Meili mentioned yesterday, he is already here. He is demanding to see the person who tried to fire Chen Meili right away.” Jung Lian immediately informed Yu Qi of the situation, his voice controlled but urgent.

”Oh... really? Well, I am going to head there now.” Yu Qi said without hesitation.

”Very well then, we will be waiting for you, Miss Yu Qi.” Jung Lian stated respectfully.

The call ended. Yu Qi turned back to look at Grandpa Mu and Chang Yu Qian. From the way they were conversing, they seemed to be getting along rather well.

”Grandpa, I have to go to the greenhouse now. There is something there that needs my immediate attention.” Yu Qi said.

”Hmm... you can go. I am going to stay here for a while. You can pick me up once you have finished your business over there.” Grandpa Mu replied.

”Are you sure?” Yu Qi asked, a hint of concern surfacing in her voice.

”Don’t worry. My bodyguards are here. They will protect me if anything happens.” Grandpa Mu said, reassuring Yu Qi that he was completely safe, as if nothing in the world could threaten him.
