Chapter 2637: Chapter 2637: Old Habits Are Hard To Change

”It’s so good to hear the truth at last.” A villager whispered.

”Yeah... Yu Qi is so lucky to have found her real family after everything she went through.”

Grandpa Mu then turned his steady gaze toward Wang Shi Xen.

”I am truly grateful to you for taking care of my biological granddaughter all those years.” Grandpa Mu said, with a chilling smile playing on his lips.

Wang Shi Xen heard this and briefly felt a spark of greedy hope. She foolishly thought the old man was about to offer her a grand reward for her ”efforts.” She opened her mouth, ready to demand a specific amount, but the very next words out of Grandpa Mu’s mouth made her entire body freeze.

”She already told you that you have received your payment. You should be grateful for what you have and not be so greedy. Otherwise... you might find it difficult to even keep your lives.” Grandpa Mu said nonchalantly, as if he were merely commenting on the afternoon weather.

Wang Shi Xen wanted many things, but she was not stupid. As much as she loved money, she loved her life infinitely more. Without her life, she would not be able to enjoy a single cent of her hoard.

”I know... I understand...”Wang Shi Xen nodded frantically with her face turning as white as a sheet.

She turned and rushed to leave the area as fast as her trembling legs could carry her. Everyone watching shook their heads in disdain, seeing Wang Shi Xen run away in such a pathetic state.

Yu Qi and Grandpa Mu continued their walk until they stopped at a familiar restaurant. Yu Qi’s gaze turned to the signboard. It was the exact same one she remembered. It clearly showed that the restaurant was still owned by the same person.

”Grandfather, let’s eat our dinner here.” Yu Qi suggested.

”Sure.” Grandpa Mu nodded in agreement.

Yu Qi pushed open the heavy door and stepped into the warm atmosphere of the restaurant.

”Welcome.” A voice greeted them warmly.

Yu Qi looked at the middle-aged woman who had greeted them. The woman was stunned for a moment, her eyes widening as she processed who was standing there.

”Oh... Are you Yu Qi?” The middle-aged woman placed a hand over her mouth in shock.

”Boss...” Yu Qi greeted her with a soft smile.

It was her old boss, Madam Sheng Tan Hua. She was the one who had kindly taken Yu Qi in after Yu Qi decided to run away from the Wang House following her rebirth.

”It really is you, Yu Qi! Long time no see,” Sheng Tan Hua said with her voice thick with emotion.

Yu Qi moved forward to hug Sheng Tan Hua, and the older woman squeezed her back tightly.

”How are you doing, Boss?” Yu Qi asked.

”No need to call me ’boss’ anymore. You are a big boss yourself now! I have heard so much about your many achievements.” Sheng Tan Hua laughed, her eyes bright with pride.

”Well, old habits are hard to change.” Yu Qi replied with a chuckle.

”Why are you here in town?” Sheng Tan Hua asked curiously.

”Oh... I am accompanying my elder. We came to enjoy the hot springs at Saisei Ryokan.” Yu Qi explained.

”Your elder?” Sheng Tan Hua looked at the dignified old man standing behind Yu Qi. She looked surprised. ”Is this Elder Tang? But he looks quite different from what I remember.”

Sheng Tan Hua naturally assumed Yu Qi had come with Grandpa Tang. She knew him well, as Grandpa Tang was a respected figure who used to live in this town years ago.

”Oh... Grandpa Tang did come back with us, but he is over at the greenhouse right now. This is actually my biological grandfather, Mu Guang Qi.” Yu Qi introduced Grandpa Mu to Sheng Tan Hua.

Sheng Tan Hua’s expression shifted to surprise once again. She then beamed a happy, genuine smile at Yu Qi.

”You found your biological family? That is wonderful news.” Sheng Tan Hua said.

”Well... only my grandfather so far. I still have not found my parents. They went missing a long time ago, though my grandfather has been searching for them tirelessly.” Yu Qi stated.

”Oh... That’s alright. At least you finally know your roots.” Sheng Tan Hua said, patting Yu Qi’s shoulder comfortingly.

”Well... Boss, we have come to have dinner at your wonderful restaurant. Please, give us your special menu.” Yu Qi said, skillfully changing the topic.

”Alright! Go and sit down. I am going to head into the kitchen and cook for you myself.” Sheng Tan Hua declared.

As Sheng Tan Hua disappeared into the kitchen, Yu Qi and Grandpa Mu took a seat at a quiet table. The restaurant was not empty. A few other customers were scattered about, enjoying their meals.

”You used to work here?” Grandpa Mu asked, looking around the establishment.

”Hmm... Boss was really good to me. She took me in after I fled the Wang family. She gave me a roof over my head and food to eat. If not for her kindness, I might have ended up homeless.” Yu Qi recalled the old memories flickering through her mind.

”I am truly glad that you were surrounded by good people even then.” Grandpa Mu said with a gentle smile.

Yu Qi smiled back. Her luck had indeed changed drastically after her rebirth. Now, she could see into people’s hearts with perfect clarity.

”Here comes my special menu!” Sheng Tan Hua announced, reappearing from the kitchen carrying two steaming plates of fragrant fried rice.

Another waiter followed close behind, placing two cups of fresh tea on the table.
