Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 568: Chapter 568: Never Expected the Goose to Peck My Eye After Chasing Them All Day

Yunyi had no idea when the matters in Songling Village came to an end; at any rate, when she prepared to go to work the next day, Huo Jingrui hadn’t come over yet.

She wondered if there was something happening that she wasn’t aware of.

Not long after she arrived at the clinic, a middle-aged woman who couldn’t walk because of foot pain came in: ”Where does it hurt?”

The woman pointed to both her feet: ”Foot pain, feels like needles stabbing, can’t walk.”

Yunyi looked at her feet: ”Take off your shoes, let me have a look.”

The woman felt a bit embarrassed; her feet hadn’t been washed for two days; she looked troubled, fearing the smell would bother the doctor: ”Doctor, I...”

Yunyi saw her embarrassment: ”It’s okay.”

The woman’s son squatted down: ”Mom, it’s okay, I’ll help you take off your shoes. You need the doctor to check it out; it’s almost New Year, we can’t let it stay like this.”

Once the shoes were off, the patched socks underneath were revealed. The woman was a bit afraid to look at Yunyi, keeping her head down.

Yunyi stepped forward: ”Take off the socks too, I need to see what’s going on.”

After the socks were removed, Yunyi saw that the woman’s foot joints were red and swollen. Though suspicious, she still asked: ”Is this gout? It hasn’t been happening for just a short while, has it?”

The woman gently nodded: ”Indeed, it’s been quite some time.”

The woman’s son looked on with concern: ”Doctor, can it be treated?”

Yunyi thought of the future pain-relieving balm, but she didn’t have the precious Snow Lotus, Red Rhodiola, or Saffron, so she said: ”I’ll prescribe you some blood-activating and stasis-removing medicine to smooth the blocked joints. You can also soak your feet in ginger water to alleviate the pain.

It’s not easy to cure it all at once. After New Year, you can come once a day, I can do some acupuncture for you, which helps regulate the flow of energy and relieve pain, improves circulation, relaxes muscles and joints, and can alleviate gout-related swelling and pain.”

The mother and son exchanged a knowing look, realizing their financial struggles.

The woman cautiously asked, ”Doctor, can I first use ginger water to soak my feet for relief, and come back for acupuncture later?”

Yunyi saw her expression and understood what she was thinking: ”Ma’am, acupuncture can only serve as an adjunct. Without medication, surely the current pain can’t be eased immediately.”

The woman’s son took a deep breath: ”Doctor, please prescribe the medicine.”

As soon as the woman heard she was just about to stop him but heard her son say: ”Mom, if this illness isn’t treated, it’ll only get worse. Please listen to your son this time.”

Watching this scene of maternal care and filial piety, Yunyi felt a bit moved: ”After New Year, I’ll find a way to make some ointment; you can come over to try it.”

Upon hearing this, the woman understood what it meant: ”That would be wonderful, I’m really troubling you, Doctor.”

After the mother and son left, Yunyi couldn’t help but ponder. Logically, gout is associated with high uric acid, resulting from either excessive alcohol intake or high purine intake. But in these times, how could it be possible? If that condition existed here, they wouldn’t have held out until it got this severe before seeking treatment.

But then, she thought of a cost-effective remedy, considering that if they come again after New Year, she’d let them procure the herbs themselves. After taking a few doses, they might see efficacy.

She suddenly thought of something, getting up abruptly and walking quickly outside.

She didn’t expect that even though she spent all her days hunting geese, she would be pecked by one in the eye; she was deceived by this mother and son pair. She thought, in this era, how could someone possibly have gout?
