Devouring Evolution: I Reborn as an Arctic Wolf

Chapter 12: Chapter 12 Hunting Musk Oxen.

Editor: Henyee Translations

Su Lin signaled to Xiao Hui to lie low in the underbrush and not move.

After all, in the hunt for Musk Oxen, a large prey, Xiao Hui couldn’t be of any help.

It had to be done by himself alone.

Even though the Musk Ox was not yet fully grown, its body was over a meter long and weighed up to four to five hundred kilograms.

This weight was several times Su Lin’s current mass.

Therefore, if he were to be struck by an ox horn, it would certainly be extremely painful.

However, he did not retreat.

A pair of pale blue wolf eyes shone with a bloodthirsty ferocity!

He must take the risk!

“Puff… Puff…”

Su Lin crawled slowly forward in the snow.

His four wolf claws made a light sound in the thick snow.

But this faint noise hardly disturbed the Musk Ox grazing on the ground cover.

The Musk Ox had strayed from its herd.

It alternated between grazing on the underbrush and looking around anxiously with its purple-blue eyes, revealing a hint of urgency.

It wanted to find its herd, but with a poor sense of smell, it couldn’t detect the scent trail left by the herd.

This made it frantically search like a headless fly, crashing about in confusion.

Eventually, it exhausted a significant amount of physical strength and had no choice but to graze here to replenish its energy.

Its mother had taught it how to find food, how to run, how to protect itself, but not how to find the main herd.

Now, all alone on this vast Arctic Continent, it felt very insecure.

And this anxious Musk Ox was unaware that danger was creeping up on it.

…

However, this very scene was being observed from not too far away by an explorer named Tiffany from a grey-white off-road vehicle.

Tiffany was from the city of Norilsk in Russia.

She was not only an explorer but also a wildlife research scholar.

Her academic paper for the year was on the peculiar wildlife of the Arctic Tundra.

Twenty-three-year-old Tiffany was very pretty.

Her lips were a bright red, and she had beautiful, long golden hair that draped over her shoulders, her golden eyes sparkling with excitement.

Over the past few days, to accurately record the activity patterns of various Arctic creatures after a blizzard.

She had been shooting in the icy, snowy wilderness of the Arctic.

To alleviate her boredom during these days.

She also began live streaming on her Facebook page.

Though the filming process was monotonous,

the company of live stream viewers who also loved wildlife made the experience quite joyful.

And now, as she watched the Arctic Wolf preparing to hunt the lone Musk Ox not too far away, she faintly felt it might be the same wolf she had seen before.

Its pure white fur was deeply memorable.

But the solitary wolf she’d previously seen hunting Arctic Rabbits was now bold enough to hunt a Musk Ox alone?

“Oh my god! This is just insane,” Tiffany couldn’t help covering her mouth with her fair hand, her expression one of shock.

At this moment, comments in the live stream on her phone began to trickle in.

[Facebook Regular User-Skadi]: Is this Arctic Wolf really going to hunt a Musk Ox by itself? My God! Impossible! This is unscientific!

[Facebook Wildlife Enthusiast-Sisuf]: From a survival perspective, nothing is impossible. Wolves can do anything when extremely hungry. Of course, the same is true for humans.

[Facebook Regular Member-Audilu]: What are you talking about? This Arctic Wolf has shiny fur and an agile body. Where do you see any sign of it being hungry? This is clearly an overconfident provocation.

[Facebook Regular Member-Ainishen]: You can’t say that. Let’s just quietly watch this hunt where there is such a difference in size and weight. This Musk Ox is smaller in size, and if the Arctic Wolf has enough hunting experience and physical strength, there is still hope.

[Facebook Biologist-Wen Luofu]: The Wolf Clan are natural hunters, cunning and ferocious. They would never make pointless provocations. According to accurate records, the most formidable of the Wolf Clan can hunt large prey alone, especially Lone Wolves. They are even more ferocious and bloodthirsty than those that live in packs.

…

After the number of comments in the live stream rapidly increased, the popularity of the live room also surged.

Users from various countries on Facebook also clicked in.

Meanwhile, Tiffany watched tensely as the Arctic Wolf, now less than five or six meters away from the Musk Oxen, drew closer.

She felt somewhat worried for this Arctic Wolf.

If it carelessly got hit by the horns, it could easily result in serious injury.

In nature, a hunter’s serious injury is tantamount to death!

At this moment,

just as Tiffany was nervously watching, the Arctic Wolf hidden in the bushes made its move.

It moved as fast as thunder!

Its speed was so fast that all one could see was a white wolf shadow accompanied by snow splattering, sprinting towards the Musk Oxen nibbling on the bushes with incredible velocity.

Just as the Musk Oxen lifted its head, before it could react,

the white wolf shadow was already upon it!

Thud!

A powerful claw strike, viciously hitting the Musk Oxen’s purple-blue eyes!

“Moo!”

The Musk Oxen, in pain, started to bellow furiously.

Seeing that the Arctic Wolf had really made a move, and that the first strike was aimed at the critical area of the Musk Oxen’s eyes,

resulted in even more comments flooding the live stream.

Tiffany, however, didn’t even have time to look at the live room, staring unmoving and unblinkingly, focused on this natural hunting struggle.

…

“Awoo!”

At that time, Su Lin’s eyes were filled with a fierce glint.

He had come out to hunt alone, already mentally prepared for a brutal fight.

The Musk Oxen were level 6, with high health and defense.

But relying on his own speed, Su Lin had the capital to fight!

That vicious claw strike had already sent the Musk Oxen into a complete frenzy.

Musk Oxen are by nature extremely courageous.

Even though this was a female Musk Oxen, in pain, it still bellowed and charged at Su Lin through the snow with thundering hooves.

“Moo!”

The Musk Oxen charged with unstoppable ferocity!

To hunt it down, one had to face its wildest and most fierce counterattack!

The Musk Oxen, breathing heavily through its nose, had tears of pain running from its eyes.

The one that was hit bled lightly.

The pain drove the Musk Oxen to run even faster

as the snow of the Arctic was scattered in all directions under its charge.

The horns glistened with a sharp cold light.

In its unstoppable momentum, it aimed a powerful blow towards Su Lin’s wolf head.

Although a wolf’s skull is very hard, known for its iron head and soft waist,

taking such a hit from a Musk Oxen, even without dying, would result in a badly damaged brain.

Therefore, Su Lin, relying on his far superior speed to the Musk Oxen, agilely sidestepped and leaped aside, evading the enraged attack of the Musk Oxen.

“Moo!”

The Musk Oxen roared angrily after missing its target, spinning its body and stamping the snow under its hooves to adjust its direction once again.

In the cognition of the Musk Oxen, there was no concept of fear or retreat.

They were the bravest warriors.

Snow flew in all directions under the trampling of their hooves.

And in Su Lin’s wolf eyes, a glint of ferocity flashed as well, facing off against the Arctic Continent’s white vastness and this Musk Oxen.
