Chapter 184 - 179: Uncle Li Huainan in Black Robe
With Chen Pingchuan’s command to ”Run!” Liu Haofeng grew increasingly anxious. Even though he had the gas pedal floored, the car’s speed was like that of a vintage automobile, a pitiful 120 kilometers per hour.”This won’t do!” Gorzo looked at the forms of the Black Demons gradually closing in from behind, his heart filled with worry.

Faced with such a vast Black Demon Tide, never mind my own level-six strength, even a level-seven ability user would be worn down and killed if they fought it head-on.

Chen Pingchuan’s face seemed tense, but deep down, he was actually quite composed. He feared neither the Black Demon Tide nor Black Demon No. 1; at least, neither would cause him harm. The one he truly dreaded was the mastermind lurking in the shadows, the one who had yet to reveal themself and had ambushed him before.

As for whether the Black Demon Tide would do him a favor and spare Liu Haofeng and Gorzo, that wasn’t even a consideration. After all, in this world, apart from his own life, everyone else seemed to be growing more and more insignificant. Even the women with whom he once had numerous interactions.

”Stop the car!” Gorzo suddenly shouted.

”What? You want me to stop the car? The Black Demon Tide is right behind us!” Liu Haofeng was astonished, his eyes wide as he kept glancing incredulously at Gorzo beside him.

When no answer came, Liu Haofeng couldn’t help but shout toward the back seat, ”Bro, look at him! Has he gone crazy?”

”Listen to him. Stop the car,” Chen Pingchuan’s tone was calm, yet left no room for argument.

”Huh?” Liu Haofeng was utterly bewildered. ”I really don’t get you guys!”

Despite his words, he gritted his teeth, steeled his heart, and slowly brought the car to a halt on the highway. Through the rearview mirror, he watched the Black Demon Tide surging toward them like a black tsunami. He felt a tinge of regret, along with a strange sense of relief.

Just as Liu Haofeng resigned himself to their fate, Gorzo pushed open the door, got out, and slammed it shut.

Then, something extraordinary happened.

Liu Haofeng felt the car suddenly lift, as if hoisted by a pair of invisible, giant hands. In the next moment, the levitating car shot forward like an arrow released from a bow, speeding down the highway at over two hundred kilometers per hour. Even through the windows, Liu Haofeng could clearly hear the sharp whistle of the air being torn apart.

”Bro, it can’t be what I think it is, can it?” Liu Haofeng shot a peculiar glance at Chen Pingchuan, a bold guess forming in his mind.

Could it be that old Gorzo, who was just sitting next to me, really got out to lift the car like he said? No, not just lift it—he’s carrying it and sprinting!

”Mm,” Chen Pingchuan simply nodded. He had already guessed the words Liu Haofeng had left unspoken.

Although Liu Haofeng’s aptitude is good, and he has unique insights when analyzing certain things, he still has a long way to go when it comes to understanding people and controlling human nature, especially compared to me. It’s like a frog at the bottom of a well looking at the moon, _______.

Gorzo’s speed increased, like a bolt of black lightning streaking across the land. The surging Black Demon Tide was gradually left behind until it was completely out of sight.

Liu Haofeng’s tense nerves finally relaxed a little. He let out a long sigh and murmured softly, ”We should be safe now, right?”

”Don’t be so sure,” Chen Pingchuan’s voice cut in abruptly, carrying a hint of gravity.

Liu Haofeng was filled with confusion, but before he could ask, an intense barrage of gunfire erupted like a thunderclap.

RAT-A-TAT-TAT...

Machine guns frantically spat fire, bullets raining down like a torrential storm.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...

Deadly beams from laser weapons instantly melted metal barricades, scorching huge gaps in the metal hulls of vehicles. A group of soldiers carrying rocket launchers exchanged fire amidst the roiling smoke, creating a scene that was both spectacular and horrifically tragic.

”Wuhua, go tell your second uncle to open fire!” Li Huainan yelled at the top of his lungs. ”Tell him to stop hoarding those precious toys! He can save his ace in the hole, but use everything else! Blast these sons of bitches to hell!”

Watching his companions fall one after another, Li Huainan’s eyes filled with grief. These men, who had been joking and laughing together just moments ago, were now silent corpses.

The young man looked troubled and replied helplessly, ”Uncle Huainan, you know how my second uncle is. We only have three small tactical missiles. Once they’re used, they’re gone. He won’t agree to use them until we find our target.”

As he spoke, the young man cautiously peeked out from cover and fired his weapon at the enemy.

”What time is it to be holding back?! What good are those things going to be if we’re all dead? The horde of Black Demons will be here soon, and we’ll all die! What damn mission will we complete then?!” Li Huainan roared. ”Tell your second uncle if he still won’t open fire, I’m taking the men and leaving! Someone else can have this damn mission!”

”Alright, I’ll go try to persuade him now,” the young man called Wuhua replied.

He knew the character of his black-robed uncle well. At critical moments, his words were never mere threats but a reflection of his true intentions. Unwilling to let that happen, Shi Wuhua waited for a gap in the enemy fire and darted toward the rear like a swift leopard.

「At this moment」

Opposite the tactical squad, Jiang Fulong, the leader of the Black Skull Legion, had a terrifyingly dark expression, like gathering storm clouds. He hoarsely commanded his men to attack while glaring furiously at his underling, Mad Dog.

Just a short while ago, while he was enjoying the company of a lover, his dream was shattered by this very underling. Mad Dog had reported that two characters with strange motives had not only forced their way through a checkpoint and refused to pay the protection fee, but had also brutally slaughtered dozens of his men.

After a careful inquiry, Jiang Fulong had roughly gauged his opponents’ strength. But being ever cautious, despite already having a plan, he still brought out most of the Black Skull Legion, leaving nothing to chance. Perhaps due to his extreme rage, he had even casually crushed his favorite concubine to death.

When he arrived at the scene, everything was just as Mad Dog had described. A single, super-advanced combat vehicle with a distinct high-tech aura was parked in the middle of the road.

Being a man of wide experience, Jiang Fulong immediately recognized the vehicle’s extraordinary value. Without hesitation, he ordered his tow trucks to transport the metal war machine back to his shelter.

All I need is a skilled Mechanician, and this combat vehicle will become another formidable weapon for my forces.

But before he could rejoice for long, a tactical convoy rolled into view from the opposite side of the highway.
