Chapter 167 - 162: Getting Stronger! Grinding in Progress
As the body crashed to the ground, the scene did not quiet down.On the contrary, the crowd below was like an ignited powder keg. They burst forth with courage they normally wouldn’t possess. With bloodshot eyes, and regardless of whether they held weapons, they surged toward Chen Pingchuan like a human tide.

”Brothers, he wants to kill us! Let’s fight him to the death!”

”The bullets in his gun will run out eventually! That’ll be our chance!”

Another leader emerged from among the prisoners. But even as he shouted at the top of his lungs, he discreetly hid behind the comrades in front of him. His eyes glistened with a crazed light, as if he could already see the glorious moment Chen Pingchuan would be torn apart by the mob.

However, before he could finish shouting these inciting words, a tiny blood hole suddenly appeared in the center of his forehead.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Following another burst of intense gunfire, the new leader and the comrades in front of him fell straight backward. Their bodies crashed heavily to the ground, splashing blood everywhere.

The crowd went silent for an instant, but the brief quiet was followed by an even more violent frenzy.

Seeing the crowd about to charge him, Chen Pingchuan remained completely unflustered. He abandoned his firearm and summoned a weapon from thin air: the Backstabbing Energy Blade, a laser combat blade that flickered with blood-red light. It was the very same blue Refined-grade weapon he had redeemed earlier.

A cruel smile touched the corner of his mouth as he watched the crowd continue to rush toward him.

A cold light flashed in his eyes. With a casual wave of his hand, the energy blade transformed into a dazzling bolt of lightning. It swept across with destructive force, and wherever the light passed, his enemies fell like scythed wheat.

They instinctively clutched their necks, but blood still gushed like a fountain from between their fingers, their eyes filled with panic and despair.

The system notifications echoed continuously in Chen Pingchuan’s mind.

Blood gushed out, winding through the cracks in the floor. Soon, it pooled into a ghastly stream, and the pungent, coppery smell of blood slowly filled the air.

The crowd behind remained oblivious, like a herd of driven livestock, crazily shoving those blocking their way forward. Amid the chaos, shouts and curses intertwined.

Those at the front who witnessed Chen Pingchuan’s terrifying might were scared witless. In their eyes, Chen Pingchuan was like a world-ending Demon God. With a mere gesture, he mercilessly reaped the lives of guards and miners alike. The scene before them was hell on earth.

People fell in droves. Corpses piled on top of each other, soon forming small mounds in front of Chen Pingchuan. The stench of blood grew thicker, filling the space with the aura of death.

The people at the back finally sensed something was wrong. They realized the number of people ahead of them was dwindling. The once-teeming, congested scene was disappearing, replaced by a large, empty space.

The few who were thinking more clearly broke into a cold sweat. They desperately pushed backward, trying to retreat to the rear of the crowd, to get away from Chen Pingchuan, this god of death.

Because in a cafeteria with only one exit, Chen Pingchuan had blocked the only way out.

His stern face and the blood-gleaming combat blade filled everyone who tried to flee with deep despair.

Someone in the crowd shrieked in terror, their voice choked with sobs, ”Stop pushing! Go back! He’s killed everyone at the front!”

A miner wailed in despair, tears and sweat streaming down his face. ”Don’t push me! I don’t want to die!”

”He’s a demon! Run! If we don’t run now, we’ll all die!”

Panic spread like a plague through the crowd, and even the mining camp’s relatively calm guards were thrown into extreme chaos.

Unlike the panicked crowd at the front, some cowards who had timidly stayed near the back, far from the cafeteria doors, were lucky enough to keep their lives. But their legs had already gone soft, and they collapsed to the floor. With their eyes squeezed shut and lips trembling, they murmured, ”God, save us. Save us lost lambs.”

They pinned their last hopes on the ethereal Divine Spirit, as if only that could offer them a shred of comfort in their terror.

Chen Pingchuan squinted, immersing himself in an entirely new sensation. He could clearly feel a continuous stream of power surging and converging within his body.

This method of plundering power through bloody slaughter possessed an indescribable magic.

He was like a man chugging an ice-cold cola on a scorching summer day. The chill didn’t just quench his thirst—it sent an electrifying jolt of pure pleasure through his body, making every pore sigh in satisfaction.

His body was secreting massive amounts of dopamine, and the intense pleasure threatened to completely shatter the floodgates of his sanity.

Chen Pingchuan’s eyes betrayed a hint of a daze. The energy blade in his hand trembled slightly, seemingly ready to strike again and slaughter the rest.

At that critical moment, a woman’s voice suddenly pierced through the fog of desire and bloodlust clouding his mind.

That voice was like a clap of thunder, making his nearly-uncontrolled hand pause for a fraction of a second.

”Chen Pingchuan, that’s enough! Stop killing!”

Chen Pingchuan slowly turned his head. He looked at the speaker with bloodshot eyes, his gaze utterly devoid of emotion, as indifferent as a god’s.

The woman who had stopped him was Nightingale. Standing beside her was his classmate, Liu Haofeng. The two of them looked at Chen Pingchuan with completely different expressions.

Nightingale’s gaze was a mixture of unease, concern, and a hint of unconcealable fear.

Liu Haofeng’s eyes, however, were filled with the smug satisfaction of a successful scheme. Deep within them lay a cunning glint and a strange sense of relief, as if a heavy burden he had long carried had finally been lifted. His lips curved slightly into a smirk that wasn’t quite a smile, which irritated Chen Pingchuan.

The moment Chen Pingchuan’s blood-red eyes fixed on Nightingale, a terrifying pressure instantly enveloped her, so heavy it was hard to breathe.

Instinctively, she placed a hand on the energy laser pistol at her waist, her fingers trembling slightly. For a moment, she couldn’t be certain if what Liu Haofeng had said earlier—that Chen Pingchuan had been possessed by a monster—was actually true.
