The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 374 - 223 Preparation for Magic_2
Chapter 374: Chapter 223 Preparation for Magic_2During this period, due to furious public sentiment or perhaps someone intentionally orchestrating the mood, the protesting crowd wantonly assaulted and looted shops belonging to the Three Major Groups and the Dick Family along their route.

Even though many of these shops were just franchisees, their employees and owners had never expected such an incident to occur in the Fifth District.

However, what was rather interesting was that, whether intentional or not, the marching crowd purposely avoided buildings officially managed by the Social Sequence, simply because those areas were guarded by security robots armed with live ammunition.

Among the onlookers, there were some voices of reason. They supported the march but not the senseless destruction.

But these voices were, after all, in the minority. Besides, protests inherently express the emotional act of public defiance; without smashing, looting, or destroying something, it always seemed to lack a certain flair.

The complete loss of control during the march began with a few gunshots of unknown origin.

A squad of five black-clad Law Enforcers positioned themselves in front of the protest crowd. They fired warning shots into the air, but not only did the crowd not stop, gunfire targeting the enforcers erupted from within it.

In just an instant, the long guns in the enforcers’ hands transformed, morphing from firearms into slender metal rods with spherical blunt ends. They charged into the crowd and hammered down on the demonstrators without hesitation.

The metal rods struck the heads of the leading protestors, emitting a cringe-inducing sound of fractured skulls. A team of five dispersed a crowd of several hundred in a mere instant.

The crowd scattered like birds, leaving behind several bodies that could only emit low moans on the ground.

But the people of Lonely City were obviously not ones to be easily dealt with. Their dispersal wasn’t just about fleeing the scene; a small faction of radicals began to retaliate by utilizing the terrain and the handguns or short-barreled submachine guns they carried.

For a time, the sound of gunfire was deafening on the streets, almost as if one could smell the gunpowder through the screen.

But the outcome was clear. The radical resisters were immediately killed on the spot by even more aggressive Law Enforcers.

The long gun equipment caught Jiang Shu’s attention. It appeared to be standard-issue weaponry but with a high degree of versatility. The short video displayed its transformation into several forms including a firearm, a metal rod, a retractable shield, and a Probe Claw Gun.

The changes were rapid, and each state was highly stable with no apparent malfunctions.

Besides this long gun equipment, their jet-propelled advance gear and multifunctional prosthetic left arms also demonstrated a high level of technological sophistication, surpassing even the individual equipment standard of the Terrorism Control Bureau.

As for the police department ...

It is well-known that the police department’s gear is always a whole generation behind the market’s equipment; with chronic underfunding, there’s simply no comparison.

”What would that be equivalent to in the Combat Sequence level?” After watching the video, Jiang Shu immediately looked towards Lang Tai, as he had always been unclear about combat levels, especially since these people were from the Social Sequence, making their combat power even harder to compare.

Lang Tai extended two hands, raising three fingers on one hand and two on the other.

”Between T3 and T2?” Jiang Shu was taken aback when he saw Lang Tai’s gesture.

Lang Tai nodded.

”T2 ...” Fox, who was standing beside him, also felt the shock. Like Jiang Shu, he had little concept of combat levels, but he was well aware of what T2 represented in the Combat Sequence.

The level of Devil Wind.

He had run through three or four riot sites this morning, and most of the Law Enforcers he saw were of this level, which meant there were nearly three thousand individuals with combat power on par with Devil Wind.

Lang Tai continued writing on a piece of paper: The basic data is T3, but their equipment is very advanced and comprehensive, and thanks to their squad tactics, they could perform on the level comparable to four or five T2s combined.

He thought for a moment and added: However, some of their tactical movements didn’t seem like they could be achieved by the physical abilities of T3, so it’s possible that they’re cybernetic organisms.

”If they’re cybernetic organisms, that would make sense,” Fox frowned slightly, a serious expression flickering across his handsome face, ”but what still doesn’t add up is why Tang has such an explosively powerful group of cybernetic organisms at his disposal. Did the Dick Family have such strength before?”

As a Hypnotist, he despised these beings whose thoughts were composed of digital logic; his own skills were utterly ineffective against such things.

And there was no helping it, hypnotism was obviously ineffective on cybernetic organisms. If someone could hypnotize a cybernetic organism...

He, Lin Xu (Fox’s real name, as mentioned before), would bow down and become their disciple on the spot.

”Not necessarily the Dick Family’s foundation,” Jiang Shu shook his head.

He had seen the Dick Family’s trump card, a giant mecha named ”Dick Hawk.” From the combat records of Lang Tai and Diller, one could infer that ”Dick Hawk” might even possess a very strong energy shield capable of withstanding artillery bombardment.

And this type of one-man mechanical troop didn’t seem like the style of the Dick Family or Tang.

”Anyway, after last night and this morning’s suppression, things have quieted down quite a bit outside. But I still feel like something big is going to happen,” the Fox continued, then he looked at Jiang Shu, ”So what are your plans for the next step?”

His heart was filled with a blazing fire, ready to fight to the end against Tang, the mastermind.

Unlike the ordinary people outside, both he and Jiang Shu were clear that this new Black Wall was not something that would disperse in a month. Tang’s erection of the new Black Wall was likely permanent from the start, and the so-called one-month social experiment was merely a stall tactic to placate the population.

In this month, Tang could accomplish a lot, so much so that the Fifth District might not be able to resist his will after a month.

Perhaps, only the four of them could stop Tang.

At this thought, a profound sense of responsibility and mission welled up inside the Fox. His trip to the Fifth District might not only allow him to avenge Devil Wind but also accidentally save the world.

”Next step?” Jiang Shu blinked and knocked on the table with his knuckles, ”How about performing some magic?”

”Huh?” The Fox was stunned.

In such a tumultuous time, instead of thinking about how to save the world from catastrophe, you’re thinking about performing magic?

”Are you serious?” The Fox’s expression suddenly turned strange, ”You want to do magic?”

That wasn’t right.

He saw a hint of confusion and gravity on Jiang Shu’s face, along with a touch of deep thought.

So...

The ”magic” Jiang Shu referred to could be just a means, like the Deception they had played before. Its purpose wasn’t just to entertain the audience, but something deeper, like questioning the judicial process.

So this time’s magic...

Was Jiang Shu suggesting it could stir up the people’s rebellious spirit and unite them against Tang?

The Fox’s eyes lit up slightly, perhaps using magic to save the world would be more interesting?

”Yeah, this time there’s no stage,” Jiang Shu sighed, ”We can only perform street magic now, but with the current situation, it’s hard to create a stable place for street performances. Look, it’s not entirely peaceful outside, and Tang and his crew are definitely looking for us. How would you perform in this situation?”

”Huh?” The Fox was immediately puzzled. So this is what you’re worried about?

That wasn’t right, wrong. Jiang Shu was so lazy, why would he voluntarily perform magic if it wasn’t for tactical reasons?

So the Fox still followed his line of thought, ”If we really need to perform, it’s not impossible. Tang’s law enforcer squad is quick to react, but as I observed this morning, each squad has its own area of responsibility. If we take out a squad and create disturbances in the surrounding areas, we can buy at least fifteen minutes of performance time.”

”Well, that’s good.” A look of anticipation also appeared on Jiang Shu’s face, ”Just imagine, in the crowd’s attention, bringing a corpse back to life right in front of everyone, how terrifying would that be?”

Such magic...

Would absolutely count as the magnum opus of a Great Magician.

”Resurrection of a corpse?” The Fox was taken aback, replying subconsciously, ”Fake death followed by a ’resurrection?’ That’s nothing new.”

”Of course not, I’m talking about a verifiable, real death,” Jiang Shu turned around, his face showing a confident smile.

He slowly added, ”However, it’ll need your help and a little preparation.”
