The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 370 - 221: Conjectures and Slaughter of the Spiritual Body_2
Chapter 370: Chapter 221: Conjectures and Slaughter of the Spiritual Body_2The situation in the simulation video was quite clear; a blurry something emerged from the corpse of a pedestrian on the ground and then merged with its kin, becoming indistinguishable.

”It closely resembles something within your human understanding, Ghost,” continued Jiang Shu, his large head bearing a serious expression, ”It cannot be considered another species as they form from the deceased and are a special kind of energy body. If I must make a comparison... ”

Yi: Chen Bifang: Are you polite?

”They are essentially backup data, backup data that has been thrown into the ’Recycling Station,’” Jiang Shu went on, and his words plunged the two people in front of him into thought.

Jiang Shu silently watched the segment of simulation video on the Simulated Light Screen.

Indeed, this entity was similar to his previous speculations about the Dead Spirit.

”Later, to verify my hypothesis, I went to the hospital,” said Jiang Shu, glancing at the two before continuing, ”The observations there essentially confirmed my guess; I collected a lot of useful data, but at that time, my robot’s processing power was limited and I didn’t reach many conclusions.”

”Alright, go do a self-check now, and then transmit the data back to the main body,” Liu Tingruo nodded. The information brought back by Jiang Shu was crucial, and she was now filled with interest in everything it had talked about.

But the basic procedure still had to be followed; Jiang Shu’s robot had to be checked before it could transmit data back to the main body, which was why it hadn’t wirelessly transmitted the data back during the mission.

Starting with the robot’s movement logs, sensory collectors, and other aspects, a complete check procedure must be carried out before transmitting data to the main body.

”Understood,” responded Jiang Shu, nodding and heading deeper into the base corridor.

Meanwhile, Liu Tingruo also stood up, stretching languidly before loosening up her body, becoming alert and energetic, though it was already two or three o’clock in the morning, her eyes still shone brightly.

She walked towards the standing coat rack in the living room, took the white lab coat hanging on it, draped it over herself, and turned her head to Jiang Shu, ”I’m off to work, to analyze the data Jiang Shu brought back... maybe also research that spiritual power; I’ve already made some entry-level equipment for observing spiritual power.”

”Go ahead,” said Jiang Shu, not stopping Liu Tingruo. It wasn’t hard to tell from her ”Night Owl Star” moniker just how much she enjoyed staying up late for research.

”No wonder you’re more spirited at night,” he murmured softly, also getting to his feet.

”What did you say?” Liu Tingruo noticed his lips moving and asked inquisitively.

Jiang Shu simply shrugged, ”Nothing, I’m going to make you some midnight snacks, I know you’re probably craving something to eat.”

”Mmm,” Liu Tingruo’s face relaxed into a smile upon hearing about midnight snacks, her brows and eyes brimming with laughter.

And Jiang Shu, seeing her look like this, smiled as well and turned toward the kitchen.

Fortunately, whether it was her habit of staying up late or some special ability granted by the title ”Night Owl Star,” simple lack of sleep did not make Liu Tingruo look haggard; her face showed no trace of the ravages of work, with no dark circles, always maintaining its fair glow.

Perhaps she was aware of this too, which was why she indulged in all-nighters without restraint.

----

At noon, Jiang Shu felt a soft body burrow into his bed, and in his drowsy state, he deduced the slender figure had to be Liu Tingruo’s, so his arms wrapped around her.

”Don’t move,” Liu Tingruo pushed his head gently, burying her own into the quilt and mumbled, ”I’ve left some analysis results and speculations with Jiang Shu; you can ask him for them, see if you can guess Tang’s purpose, I’m too sleepy, going to sleep first.”

”Eh,” Jiang Shu’s head was nudged, which woke him up considerably, and he savored Liu Tingruo’s words, then opened his eyes and instinctively sat up.

”Good morning,” Liu Tingruo reached out and waved at Jiang Shu, her body already beginning to merge with the quilt.

She turned her head slowly, her head now wrapped in the quilt so that only her small, delicate nose for breathing was visible, her even breathing emanating from there.

Jiang Shu, too, stood up, stretched, and walked into Jiang Shu’s laboratory in the corridor.

They had results and speculations already? That was quick.

Liu Tingruo really was remarkable.

If the hallway was decorated in a cosy home style, the laboratory immediately took on a light science fiction vibe. In one corner of the lab, a large-headed robot was conversing with its four Tablet Spirits, and from the happy emotions displayed on their screens, it was clear they were having a lively chat.

They were getting along quite well.

”Not bad,” Jiang Shu smiled genuinely, offering his approval until he saw the Tablet Spirit on the ground pull out a battery and a data cable from behind.

Jiang Shu: ”...”

Shu Bao was still very serious now, but if it got influenced by these four things and changed its style...

Sister Ruo would definitely beat him up, right?

”Xiao Yi, put that down.” So he shouted angrily towards the direction of the Tablet Spirits.

Shu Bao and the four Tablet Spirits all turned their heads to look at him, while Xiao Yi got a fright, but while it bared its teeth in a grin, it swung its steamed bun-like hands—its hands moved so fast that the battery and data cable were swiftly hidden.

Truly worthy of being an assistant to a magician, the reputation was well-deserved.

Jiang Shu, however, walked over expressionlessly, taking the battery and data cable from under the table belly behind it and then said to Shu Bao, ”Sister Ruo told me to come and check the result of your research from last night.”

”I put it on the display, look at it yourself,” Shu Bao said to him, and after a moment’s hesitation, it mentioned casually, ”Diller died.”

”Hm? Diller is dead?” Jiang Shu froze slightly, his hand stopping on the screen, ”When did he die?”

”Two fifty in the morning,” Shu Bao provided an exact time.

Jiang Shu then went silent; during the two hours Diller was hypnotized yesterday, they had fed him a capsule, which contained a simple tracking device and timer.

The departing Diller would surely return to his own turf, and perhaps even visit Tang, and the capsule was supposed to record this route.

However, since the tracking device required absolute concealment, it could only exist inside Diller’s body for a brief period, and the capsule would depart following his next excretion.

But this capsule doesn’t seem to sense whether a person is dead or alive, does it?

”He has not had any excretory activities for twelve hours now,” Shu Bao seemed to catch onto Jiang Shu’s confusion, ”Other people’s conditions might be special, but Diller’s body is under strict and precise control; if nothing unexpected happens, something unexpected must have happened.”

It continued, ”Judging from the time and place of death, he died in Dick Manor.”

”Hm?” Jiang Shu frowned.

Died in Dick Manor? Why would Diller die there? Shouldn’t that be the safest place?

”You should look at the analysis results first,” but Shu Bao changed the subject, not continuing on this topic.

Hearing this, Jiang Shu nodded and opened the analysis report and related conjectures.

”Spiritual Bodies might be the inversion of spiritual power.”

”The moment a person is about to die, spiritual power leaks out in large quantities to form a Spiritual Body, but if resuscitation is successful, the Spiritual Body re-enters the body. This is what Mysticism calls ’Near-Death Experience.’”

”After forming, Spiritual Bodies continue to disperse and cannot recover on their own; when the energy is completely gone, the Spiritual Body will also disappear. The amount of energy contained in a Spiritual Body depends on the deceased’s age; generally speaking, the older the age, the less energy and the faster it dissipates.”

”The contents of a Spiritual Body can be observed and even altered, but the current level of technology cannot achieve alteration.”

A series of analyses and conjectures shocked Jiang Shu, and he asked Shu Bao, ”Are those at the end... all true?”

”Yes,” Shu Bao nodded its big head, ”Yesterday I went to many hospitals, saw many dead people, and witnessed the formation and dispersal of quite a few Spiritual Bodies.”

And Jiang Shu also understood Shu Bao’s hint, but the image that instantly came to his mind was that of Clo.

”So you mean... Tang might be able to resurrect Clo? And then use him?”

”Clo? Hm, not just Clo, also many in the Fifth District...” Shu Bao thought for a bit, then added, ”Or perhaps everyone.”

”But before that, he has to kill everyone.”
