The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 352 - 215: The Slowly Rising New Black Wall
Chapter 352: Chapter 215: The Slowly Rising New Black Wall”Another species?” Liu Tingruo slightly froze upon hearing this, somewhat grasping the meaning of what Jiang Shu was saying, yet not fully comprehending it. So as if to confirm something, she asked again, ”Do you mean mutants?”

”No,” Jiang Shu shook its head. It looked out the car window, and its simulated gaze still held some confusion, ”Not mutants. You people seem unable to observe them, yet right now, the streets are swarming with such creatures.”

Jiang Shu’s response made Liu Tingruo furrow her brows tightly. She hesitated a moment before asking, ”Then how are you able to observe them? You are my own creation, so why can you see them?”

”Inversion,” Jiang Shu continued, ”Adding an ’inversion’ setting to the vision is all it takes.”

Inversion meant replacing an object’s colors with their complementary colors.

”Inversion? It’s that simple?” Liu Tingruo instinctively called up the camera on her wristwatch and added an ”inversion” color setting, then pointed the camera outside the car window.

But the screen showed nothing; she could not see anything.

This was normal; if it were that simple, Jiang Shu’s mentioned species would have likely been discovered by others a long time ago.

”There are some other constraints... I get it now.” Jiang Shu gave it a bit more thought, seeming to have figured out the critical point, then it explained, ”The way we construct the world is different, the ’sight’ I ’see’ does not go through the ’brain’ step, so I can see them.”

”You mean to say that the existence of these creatures is automatically filtered out by my brain?” Liu Tingruo didn’t instantly grasp Jiang Shu’s point.

It was simple: the human brain is the central organ for perceiving the world, where all sensations form.

For instance, the eyes only receive visual information, but the color and shapes are integrated in the brain’s visual cortices to form a complete image.

But Jiang Shu was different. Its ’vision’ was completed on the camera where information was integrated before being transmitted to its own ”brain.”

”Exactly, it’s like there is a filter net. All information about that species is automatically filtered out by the human brain,” Jiang Shu added, beginning to summarize, ”There are three conditions to perceive them. First, the inversion color setting; second, the observer must be a living entity; third, without the information shackles of the human brain.”

”So basically, only mechanical life like you can see them,” Liu Tingruo understood what Jiang Shu had outlined. ”Draw out their appearance for me.”

”Mhm.” Jiang Shu nodded its head, then quickly projected the street view it was seeing onto the Simulated Light Screen.

At this time, the fox, Jiang Shu, and the four Tablet Spirits in the van also turned their heads to look back at Liu Tingruo and Jiang Shu’s conversation, equally showing their curiosity.

A new species, right on the streets, and they couldn’t see them?

However, Lang Tai, sitting at the driver’s seat, didn’t show much curiosity. He kept driving steadily, eyes fixed ahead.

Even though his excellent hearing meant he hadn’t missed a word, what he was subconsciously pondering in his mind was whether he needed to expand his business scope.

Forget it, no more new jobs for now. He just wanted to be a good wolf.

”Why can’t you guys find it?” Meanwhile, Jiang Shu turned his head to look at the four spirits sitting next to him, ”Can you try to see it?”

Ding: Would you normally shoot aimlessly with a camera set to inversion? How would we do such a silly thing that even you wouldn’t?

”...” Jiang Shu was momentarily speechless, but without hesitation, he knocked on little Ding’s head, ”Shut up.”

Little Alpha obediently followed suit. It closed its eyes, turned on its camera, and added the inversion setting. Soon after, it shook its head with a puzzled look.

Alpha: Nothing, I did that, but I can’t see.

Alpha: The conditions to see that species are likely not just three, but more.

Watching little Alpha’s two messages, Jiang Shu silently stroked his chin, contemplating in his mind.

The artificial intelligence said they exist, but Alpha who met the conditions couldn’t see them.

Two possibilities: Either, as Alpha said, additional conditions are necessary, such as computing power or the characteristics of a certain fantasy metal; or...

The artificial intelligence was lying.

It was plotting something, so it lied to Liu Tingruo.

But this scenario seemed unlikely, for it knew about the four Tablet Spirits’ existence, and since both were artificial life, lying about this would be too easily detected.

Just like now, according to Jiang Shu’s mentioned conditions, Alpha couldn’t see the creatures, which had already made Jiang Shu doubt its words.

However, setting aside these doubts, Jiang Shu held a degree of belief in its claims.

A species unobservable by humans, another species living in Lonely City, everywhere on the streets...

Such a statement made him think of spiritual bodies or, in ordinary terms, what people call ”Dead Spirits.”

His derivative entry ”Paperman Control Technique,” obtained through Magic, could indeed summon such Dead Spirits, and he had successfully experimented with it twice.

So, it could be that this was already one of the settings of Lonely City, just that before now, no one had ever discovered it.
