Chapter 294: Chapter 191 Tang’s Invitation: Fox Hunt (1st update, recommended to read after all updates are complete)As the crowd walked past Jiang Shu, the entire street was shrouded in a mood of jubilation.

He too caught a floating Ding, with a declaration posted on the official website of the Three Major Groups:

Effective immediately, those who have served in Huang Kong, Seks, or Falcon for ten years or more will be able to collect an annual retirement bonus of thirty thousand Feather Coins from the respective Group Army Headquarters. This award can be retroactively issued, and specific details can be found in Attachment 1.

Those who served as junior officers in the Group Army are eligible for an additional pension, requiring only an annual review at the headquarters. The specific process can be found in Attachment 2.

In addition, a bonus of ten thousand Feather Coins will be retroactively awarded for third-class military merits, fifty thousand for second-class, and one hundred thousand for first-class.

”They’re actually distributing money,” Jiang Shu mused, his recent speculation confirmed by this notice.

Clearly, the veteran army rallied by Clo had hit the Three Major Groups hard, realizing that improving the welfare system for veterans was of immediate concern.

After all, the economic loss caused by such unrest is far greater than the cost of using money to pacify the veterans.

If they had a choice, if it weren’t for a miserable life with bleak prospects, no one would have been tempted by Clo’s seduction to join his army.

Spending the best twenty years of one’s life perfecting the skills of killing and having no good way out after discharge, these people were already like time bombs buried in Lonely City.

The updated welfare policy was clearly the best solution; shaking out a bit of money from your fingernail could win hearts—a much more practical approach than draconian supervision or mass extermination since the Three Major Groups could not afford to chill the hearts of active soldiers.

Jiang Shu casually opened the attachment.

The content of the attachment was straightforward, mainly detailing the proportionate scales of retirement pay based on years since discharge.

For instance, full pension could be claimed within three years of discharge, which meant multiplying the years of retirement by three, and within five years, eighty percent of the retroactive amount could be claimed, and so on. The longer the discharge, the more the benefits tended to dwindle.

Such a retroactive policy seemed illogical; logically, the longer one had been retired, the richer the pension proportion should be.

”They really aren’t willing to spend a single unnecessary coin,” Jiang Shu scoffed after glancing through the entire attachment in a matter of seconds, chuckling dryly.

It didn’t make sense, but it was very much in keeping with the nature of the Three Major Groups, although Jiang Shu had not expected that they would display this so brazenly.

The longer one was retired and the older the soldier was, the less likely they were to rebel. Even if they wanted to, they were already without the strength to do so, so their pension proportion was critically low.

Secondly, conducting annual reviews of retired junior officers was also a crucial measure to prevent rebellion. The combat effectiveness of a force was largely related to its junior officers; without talented junior officers, a military unit would struggle to demonstrate strong combat capability.

Overall, no matter the ultimate purpose of the change in welfare policy, these retired soldiers were definitely the ones who benefited.

Jiang Shu watched the sporadic men walk past him, most bearing smiles to some degree.

”It’s like a tree; you light a tentative fire. If it burns down, it just shows it was already rotten at the core.”

”If it doesn’t burn down, that fire will only stimulate its vitality.”

”It will grow better.”

Clo’s words echoed in his mind. Jiang Shu pondered for a moment before sighing, ”What a pity.”

He gazed toward the direction of the Fifth District; along the straight line his eyes traced, Qiu Wanying was somewhere on that line.

It had been three months since he last contacted Qiu Wanying, nor had he sent the Tablet Spirits to check on her, with only the faint connection of Paperman remotely signaling to him that Qiu Wanying was not in dire straits and all was going well.

But speaking of which, Jiang Shu would have preferred some minor trouble to befall Qiu Wanying, then he himself could sweep in heroically to rescue her, and then, in dominant heroic fashion, whisk her away, never to return.

Yet such unrealistic fantasies were just that—fantasies.

”Jiang Shu, Jiang Shu! You haven’t left yet?” At that moment, a car pulled up by the roadside, and Ray rolled down the window from the driver’s seat, waving at Jiang Shu, ”Come over here, come here!”

The film crew had just wrapped up filming at a nearby factory. Due to the confidential nature of the movie, the unique trait of splitting scripts for different shooting locations, and the fact that some actors had already completed their screen parts and had additional engagements to attend to, the crew hadn’t held a very lavish ceremony or arranged a wrap party at a hotel.

The so-called wrap ceremony was simply a brief event held within the filming factory, with small gifts prepared for everyone and a group photo to cap it off.

Nonetheless, even such was of great significance to Jiang Shu, as this was his first time venturing into film production.

Jiang Shu approached the car and nodded, replying, ”Yeah, getting ready to head back now.”

”Need a lift?” Ray chuckled, ”Should be on the way.”

”Sure,” Jiang Shu replied as he opened the rear door of the car and settled into the backseat. It was only after getting in that he realized a woman was sitting in the passenger seat.

Qiu Wanying.
