Earth's Greatest Magus

Chapter 2120: Soul Battle

Emery had modified the [Spirit Devour] spell, enhancing its range and versatility. Now, the spell could be cast without his blade claws or the need for direct physical contact. The spell unleashes in the form of multiple spirit strings, these tendrils-like energy was able to entangle Mo Yanʼs ghastly form, wrapping around the spectral body with an ethereal glow.

However, despite its increased effectiveness, it remained a tier 5 spell and with Mo Yanʼs formidable spirit defenses, it couldnʼt activate the spellʼs devouring capability, only restraining its target.

Mo Yanʼs enraged soul writhed and struggled against the bindings, his ghastly voice echoing with contemptuous fury. ”You cannot restrain me with your puny skill!” His spectral form pulsated with dark energy, attempting to shatter the restraining bonds.

Undeterred by the spiritʼs rage, Emery met Mo Yanʼs gaze with a steely challenge.

”Do you dare to fight me then? Or do you prefer to run away?” Emery had a powerful spirit defense skill called [Emperor Focus], but he lacked an offensive spirit skill. The only other skill he possessed was [Soul Walk], which required him to dominate his target beforehand to be used.

It was only a matter of time before Mo Yan would break free from his restraints.

Fearing that the enraged spirit would possess Shen Longʼs or worse, his senior Heorgarʼs body, Emery decided to take a bold risk and taunt the hunchback slave master into attacking him instead.

”YOU will regret this!! Fine!! Your body is mine!!” Mo Yanʼs voice echoed with malevolent intent. before its ghastly spirit flew toward Emery, fully engulfing him in a spectral mist before initiating a soul battle. Emery was ready, he had experienced hundreds of soul battles before, but they were mostly against prisoners where he held the advantage and control of the spirit realm. This time, he faced a powerful Grand Magus spirit master, and their soul strengths would be fiercely contested.

A bright light enveloped Emery and Mo Yan as they transitioned into the spirit realm, arriving in an empty void of space, facing each other hovering in the air.

Mo Yanʼs eyes widened in surprise. He had anticipated that his formidable soul strength would allow him to pull Emery into a spirit realm of his own creation. The reality that they found themselves in this neutral, empty void indicated that their soul strengths were nearly equal.

”You... who are you really?! No magus has this much soul strength!!” his voice laced with both curiosity and frustration.

As the battle was about to commence, both combatants began to manifest their spiritual constructs, visual representations of their soul strength. Emery, with his [Emperor Focus] activated, conjured the image of a massive palace made of solid, sturdy wood. The structure exuded an aura of ancient strength and resilience, its walls thick and unyielding. Dominating the front of the palace was an imposing black gate, intricately engraved with ominous wolf carvings that seemed to come alive, their eyes gleaming with a predatory glint.

Seeing Emeryʼs construct form, Mo Yan regained his confidence. ”Huh! You worried me for nothing!” he sneered.

Despite the imposing nature of Emeryʼs manifestation, the construct that materialized behind Mo Yan was a three-storied dark pagoda, which was significant because, in a soul battle, the constructs indicated oneʼs mental strength. A single-story construct signified a soul strength equivalent to 1,000 magus souls, granting the magus their spirit master status. This level of soul strength was common among magus who had successfully ascended to the one cosmos grand magus realm.

Two cosmos grand magus would typically form a two-story construct, boasting the power of 2,000 magus souls. However, Mo Yanʼs three-story pagoda indicated a strength of at least 3,000 magus souls, an advantage that symbolized his level-three spirit master status.

”NOW DIE!!!” Mo Yan exclaimed, forming two massive spectral arms, ready to crush Emery in this ethereal battlefield.

Under the oppressive weight of Mo Yanʼs three-story pagoda, even basic movements were a struggle for Emery, let alone manifesting a weapon to fight back. The stakes were clear: if he fell here, Mo Yan would likely succeed in taking over his body.

Despite the perilous situation, Emery remained calm, his focus unwavering since entering this realm. He concentrated intensely on his soul, and finally, the spirit realm shook.

Mo Yanʼs steps halted as Emeryʼs wooden palace began to transform. The structure glowed with a spectrum of bright colors, and a crystal prism formed, constructing an additional level.

This metamorphosis turned Emeryʼs palace into a magnificent two-story prism pagoda, radiating a powerful, iridescent light.

With this power, Emery felt an incredible lightness in his body, all previous restraints dissipating in an instant. With a mere thought, he conjured a blade in his hand, a weapon that could successfully parry Mo Yanʼs spectral attack. ṟÃɴоꞖƐＳ

”WHAT!!! How could this be?!” Mo Yanʼs voice was a mix of disbelief and fury.

The power Emery now wielded was the culmination of four years of relentless effort. He had been improving his soul power through continuous learning and refinement, guided by a divine technique bestowed upon him by a celestial entity: the [Prism of Light].

This technique came in three sets. The first set was a meditation practice designed to help comprehend the law of light. The second set was another technique aimed at enhancing his soul strength. The third set came with an active skill, one that allowed him to temporarily convert all nature-type elements into light, this [Prism of Light], gave him a qualitative boost to his soul.

Emeryʼs mastery of these techniques had brought him to this critical moment, where his enhanced soul power stood as his last line of defense against Mo Yanʼs overwhelming assault.

”Huh!! So what!! I am still a level stronger than you!!” Emery remained unfazed by Mo Yanʼs taunt. He understood that while Mo Yanʼs three-story dark pagoda represented formidable power, there was a critical distinction between dark and light constructs. Light elements, known for their inherent superiority in mental strength, provided Emery with an edge. His pagoda shone with a prism of brilliance, enhancing his capabilities and bringing his soul strength on par with Mo Yanʼs.

With their strengths equalized, the fightʼs outcome hinged on the proficiency of their techniques and the depth of their abilities within the spirit realm.

The battle commenced with a ferocity that shook the very fabric of the spirit realm. Weapons and spells manifested through the sheer force of their wills, clashing in a dazzling display of power and skill.

”I am Mo Yan! I will not be defeated by the likes of you!!”
