Global Exploration: Starting from Decrypting Chernobyl

26: Together to die, a stubborn man and a dog!”I have a mission, so I dare not be negligent.”

Captain Wu chuckled.

”But Elder Li, how come I see you everywhere? At such an old age, you’re still active on the front lines?”

”Captain Wu, you jest.”

Li Xiangzhe smiled warmly.

”Actually, I’m quite interested in the truth of Chernobyl, and I’m also a nuclear physicist, so of course, I can’t be absent from a place like this!”

”But most importantly...”

Li Xiangzhe leaned closer to Wu Feng and whispered.

”I really like that kid in this live stream. He has guts and ability; he’s a good prospect!”

”Oh?”

A hint of excitement flashed in Wu Feng’s eyes.

”Isn’t this a coincidence?”

”I also really like this kid. If he came to my place, he’d also be a good prospect!”

”It seems we two old men will have to compete!”

”Heh heh...”

Li Xiangzhe nodded.

”Let’s not talk about that for now. Do you have confidence in bringing the data and this kid back to the country safely?”

”...”

Wu Feng pondered for a moment.

”It’s difficult!”

”But, I guarantee the mission will be completed!”

”Good!”

”Let’s go. We’ll find a place to discuss and see how we should proceed...”

Li Xiangzhe, taking Wu Feng, as well as the researchers and combat personnel behind him, quickly disappeared into the night near the airport, arriving at their pre-booked accommodation.

After dinner, the group chatted briefly before returning to their rooms to sleep.

They planned to contact Wu Tian in the morning when he reopened his live stream.

They would then finalize the plan together.

Meanwhile... in Kyiv, the capital of Ulan Country, over 140 kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, a request for fighter jet approval was passing through layers of review at an unprecedented speed.

It was awaiting delivery to the pilots first thing the next morning!

...Although the town of Pripyat was incredibly desolate due to radiation, its desolation paradoxically kept it perpetually quiet.

Without a doubt.

Wu Tian and Fatty had a good night’s sleep.

But... Wu Tian wasn’t so sure about Sinikov.

”Fatty, were you generating electricity in your room last night?”

”Your snoring is really loud!”

”When you’re done, go see a doctor. This is a sickness!”

”No, boss!”

Rice looked at Wu Tian beside him with a mournful expression.

”This is just because I’m too fat, it’s really not a sickness!”

”No!”

Wu Tian chuckled.

”This is a sickness.”

”In our Dragon Country, it’s called: ’You’re Eating Too Much of What You’re Eating Sickness’!”

”...”

Rice looked bewildered.

”Is there such a sickness?”

Wu Tian chuckled, pushing open Sinikov’s door while saying to Fatty behind him without looking back.

”Yes, of course...”

”Creak!”

Suddenly!

Wu Tian’s expression froze. He looked at Sinikov, lying on the bed, eyes staring at the ceiling, his entire body stiff as iron.

His eyes welled up slightly.

”Wh...”

”What’s wrong, boss?”

Fatty felt the atmosphere was off.

He quickly reached out and pushed Wu Tian in front of him.

When he found he couldn’t move him, he stepped past him, coming to his side.

Only then.

Fatty finally saw what had happened in the room.

Sinikov on the single bed seemed to have died long ago. Lividity had already begun to appear on his pale face, his legs and feet slightly bent. Having suffered from hunger and radiation for years... he looked just like a zombie!

Beside the bed lay the quiet, motionless Rottweiler.

It was now resting its paw on Sinikov’s arm.

Panting, one breath after another.

”...”

”He’s dead...”

Wu Tian rubbed his face, trying his best to calm his emotions.

”Actually...”

”He said what he needed to say before he died, so it wasn’t in vain!”

”Heh heh...”

”It can be considered a wish fulfilled!”

Fatty said with a forced smile.

”Mm.”

Wu Tian nodded.

Putting down his backpack, Wu Tian walked to Sinikov’s window and waved to Fatty.

”Come on, lend a hand.”

”He can’t die here. We need to find him a good place!”

”Of course!”

”...”

The two men carried Sinikov’s emaciated body, wrapped in the thin blanket that offered little protection against the cold, and carefully walked down the stairs of the church.

When they said ’carried’.

Sinikov’s body was already so light, it was practically just a skeleton!

The radiation sickness and years of hunger made him look somewhat strange.

Even... a little horrifying!

But what did that matter?

For Wu Tian and Fatty, and even for the Rottweiler that had followed Sinikov for so many years, Sinikov was a hero!

Although his face was chiseled and his body was hunched like a skeleton.

His spirit, however, would live on forever!

”...”

”He was just talking yesterday, and he’s dead today?”

”I can’t quite accept it. Let me process this!”

”Sinikov is dead. Does that mean the last person who truly experienced Chernobyl in the world is also gone?”

”The person upstairs isn’t being rigorous enough. Didn’t you mention someone, Gatilov, who is still alive?”

”The person upstairs isn’t rigorous!”

”Does Gatilov even deserve to be called a human?”

”Yesterday I didn’t believe it, but today, seeing the old man’s appearance in death, I inexplicably believed it. If a person like him, who lived in this hellhole for thirty-four years to uphold his bottom line, is lying, then is there any truth left in this world?”

”I agree with the person upstairs. I strongly call for Gatilov to be severely punished!”

”He must be severely punished!”

”We are all witnesses to the truth of that year. We demand severe punishment!”

”Host!”

”I’ve been following you. You must submit that recording to the United Nations so they can severely punish these people!”

”Yes, Host, if you can do that, I’ll send as many gifts as it takes!”

”Me too!”

”Me too...”

”I’m so angry, I’m shaking and cold. If people like Gatilov aren’t severely punished, where is the truth in this world?”

”...”

At this moment, due to Sinikov’s death, the Chernobyl incident, which had been sealed for thirty-four years, once again garnered widespread global attention through Wu Tian’s live stream.

The United Nations reopened the interrogation files from that year, busily preparing for a re-trial.

Countries around the world began to mobilize.

They contributed their efforts to restore the truth!

...But Wu Tian was unaware of all this.

At this moment, Wu Tian encountered a small problem!

He had just finished digging the large pit to bury Sinikov when the Rottweiler jumped in, firmly occupying a corner of the bottom of the pit, neither barking nor moving, waiting for Wu Tian to fill the pit.

”Buddy...”

Wu Tian looked troubled.

”Come out, I need to bury this pit!”

”It’s for Sinikov, not for you...”

”Cough...”

A muffled grunt.

Crimson blood flowed from the corner of the mouth of the old Rottweiler!

It was exceptionally striking!
