The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

180: Chapter 180 Wang Xiaoqu is in troubleInside the meeting room, the atmosphere was lively. Everyone was actively reporting their work progress, full of energy. Zhang Wei sat in the corner, his gaze always fixed on Xiao Li. Xiao Li had been very quiet, not offering any opinions, only occasionally looking down to write something on paper or casting an imperceptible, sinister glance at Wang Xiaoqu.

Zhang Wei’s heart stirred as he thought to himself: This person really is full of hostility toward Wang Xiaoqu, just as the system said.

After the meeting ended, Wang Xiaoqu invited Zhang Wei to his office with a beaming smile. Zhang Wei nodded slightly and followed Wang Xiaoqu through the busy office area into the well-organized office. Thinking Zhang Wei was there to inspect the project’s progress, Wang Xiaoqu immediately opened his computer to prepare a detailed report.

”Mr. Zhang, this is our latest progress report.” Wang Xiaoqu’s voice was full of confidence as he talked incessantly about every detail of the project, as if he wanted to showcase all the results at once.

However, Zhang Wei gently waved his hand, interrupting the report. His gaze slowly swept across the office, finally settling on a vibrant green plant on the windowsill. ”This plant is very well-kept,” he said admiringly.

Wang Xiaoqu was stunned for a moment, then a proud smile appeared on his face. ”Yes, this pothos is my favorite. I’ve had it for several years now; it’s almost become a part of my office.”

The two chatted for a bit about the pothos, and the atmosphere became relaxed and pleasant. Afterward, Wang Xiaoqu stood up and apologetically stated he had to go to a meeting with the project team. Zhang Wei nodded and sat alone in the office, but his mind began to ponder another important matter: throughout the day, Xiao Li didn’t seem to have done anything unusual, but the system couldn’t be wrong. Where exactly was the problem?

He decided to go to Xiao Li’s workstation to take a look. Walking up to Xiao Li’s desk, Zhang Wei asked casually, ”Young Xiao, how is work going today?”

Xiao Li looked up, a hint of avoidance flashing in his eyes. ”It’s fine, Mr. Zhang.” Although his voice was calm, that slight tension did not escape Zhang Wei’s ears.

Zhang Wei noticed a notebook on Xiao Li’s desk. The cover was somewhat worn, and some messy doodles were faintly visible. His heart stirred, and he asked tentatively, ”Is this notebook yours?”

”Um, yes.” Xiao Li’s voice grew more tense, and his fingers unconsciously tightened around his pen.

”Can I take a look?” Zhang Wei smiled and reached out, his gaze carrying a hint of firm resolve that brooked no refusal.

Xiao Li hesitated for a moment but eventually handed the notebook to Zhang Wei. Zhang Wei flipped through it; it was densely packed with code and annotations, the handwriting neat and meticulous. However, Zhang Wei frowned, finding nothing out of the ordinary.

”Did you write all of this?” Zhang Wei continued to ask, trying to find a clue in Xiao Li’s response.

”Yes, these are just some of my usual thoughts and notes,” Xiao Li answered somewhat reluctantly, a flash of unease in his eyes.

Zhang Wei nodded and returned the notebook to him, but he felt even more puzzled.

The next day, Zhang Wei came to the company again. Just as he reached the front desk, he saw Wang Xiaoqu’s assistant running over in a hurry, face pale: ”Mr. Zhang, something’s wrong! Mr. Wang fainted in his office!”

Zhang Wei was startled and immediately rushed to the scene with the assistant. He saw Wang Xiaoqu lying on the floor, his face pale, surrounded by a circle of colleagues, all of whom looked worried and anxious.

”Call an ambulance, quickly!” Zhang Wei commanded calmly. At the same time, he knelt down to carefully check Wang Xiaoqu’s condition. He placed his finger gently on Wang Xiaoqu’s pulse and felt a weak heartbeat.

The ambulance arrived quickly and took Wang Xiaoqu to the hospital. Zhang Wei followed closely behind, his heart filled with doubt. He called over Wang Xiaoqu’s assistant and asked seriously, ”Has there been anything unusual with Wang Xiaoqu’s health lately?”

The assistant thought for a moment and shook his head: ”Nothing particularly obvious, except I felt his mental state hasn’t been great lately. Sometimes he seemed to lack energy.”

Zhang Wei frowned. ”Did you not ask him why?”

”I did, but he just said it was nothing, probably just exhaustion from working overtime lately,” the assistant replied somewhat helplessly.

Zhang Wei pondered for a moment and suddenly asked, ”Has he eaten anything unusual recently, or been in contact with anyone?”

”That...” The assistant thought for a while, and his eyes suddenly lit up. ”No, Mr. Wang is usually very approachable and eats the same staff meals as everyone else. But Mr. Wang has a habit of drinking a cup of coffee first thing when he arrives at the company every morning.”

”Alright, go back to your work for now.” Zhang Wei waved his hand and watched the assistant leave.

He returned to the company once more and stepped into Wang Xiaoqu’s familiar office. A faint scent of coffee lingered in the air, as if speaking of the owner’s daily habit. He sat at the large desk, his gaze falling on the computer screen that was still on; the flickering document seemed to tell of the owner’s unfinished work. Beside it, the half-cup of coffee had long since lost its warmth, giving off a cool luster.

”Mr. Zhang, you’re here.” Xiao Li pushed the door open and entered. Not expecting Zhang Wei to be there, his expression was slightly exaggerated, and his voice trembled as he spoke.

”Um, we’re planning to visit Mr. Wang at the hospital after work,” Xiao Li continued, trying his best to make his voice sound calm, but the tension within him was hard to hide.

”Mr. Wang is out of danger and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.” Zhang Wei’s gaze was piercing, staring intently at Xiao Li, trying to read more from his expression and eyes. Xiao Li’s eyes darted around, seemingly trying to avoid Zhang Wei’s scrutiny, and his gaze unconsciously fell on that cup of cooled coffee.

”Oh, as long as Mr. Wang is okay. I’ll head out then.” There was a clear hint of tension in Xiao Li’s voice, yet his eyes remained fixed on that cup of coffee.

”Wait, I have something to ask you.” As Zhang Wei spoke, he walked toward Xiao Li. Seeing Zhang Wei approaching, Xiao Li turned and tried to bolt.

”Where are you running!” Zhang Wei shouted as he rushed forward. Xiao Li usually neglected exercise, and after just a couple of steps, Zhang Wei caught him with a quick stride.

The colleagues in the office were stunned by the scene. Xiao Li was still struggling, trying to break free from Zhang Wei’s grasp.

”Quick, come up and help pin him down!” Zhang Wei ordered loudly. A few brave male colleagues finally reacted and rushed forward, firmly pinning Xiao Li down together.

Zhang Wei no longer hesitated and quickly pulled out his phone to dial Zuo Hemei’s number.

In the Interrogation Room of the Police Station, the lights were dim, and the air was filled with an oppressive atmosphere. Xiao Li sat on a cold iron chair, his hands tightly clenched, his eyes darting back and forth.

”Xiao Li, you’d better come clean. If you don’t cooperate, you’ll be the one suffering the consequences,” the police officer said sternly.
