The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

173: Chapter 173 Campus Arrest CaseStanding at the door was Cai Wenguo, a security guard from the Jiangnan Garden residential area. With a hint of expectation, he said, ”Auntie Wu, Old Lady Niu from the neighborhood committee mentioned that Professor Liu was a professor in the university’s literature department before he retired. There’s going to be a book exchange event in the community later, and I wanted to ask if Professor Liu is free to come and grace us with his presence.”

Auntie Wu looked a bit conflicted, her brow furrowing slightly. She had originally planned to go to the hospital to pick up Professor Liu’s medicine. If the professor went to participate in the community activity, it would disrupt her plans.

Security guard Cai Wenguo saw her concern and comforted her with a smile, ”Auntie Wu, you take Professor Liu to the activity center, and we’ll help go get the medicine. How does that sound?”

Hearing this, a gleam of gratification flashed in Professor Liu’s eyes. Thinking that he could still contribute to the community even after retirement, a warm current surged in his heart.

Seeing the long-absent smile on Professor Liu’s face, the nanny Auntie Wu’s heart softened. She nodded and accompanied Professor Liu to the activity center.

In this way, with Professor Liu under everyone’s watchful eye and accompanied by the nanny Auntie Wu, no accidents would occur, avoiding a tragedy.

On the other side of the city, Xue Wenhui, a middle-aged man in his thirties, had a face as haggard as withered bark, with a faint, imperceptible gloom hidden in his eyes. He stood at the entrance of Jiande Middle School, his gaze shifting restlessly as if searching for something. The biting cold wind whipped at his tattered jacket.

Xue Wenhui had drifted through multiple cities, but his path to employment had been repeatedly frustrated. After arriving in Shenghai City, the heavy pressure of life brought him to the brink of collapse, and a twisted thought gradually sprouted in his heart—revenge against society. He targeted innocent middle school students, planning to carry out a terrifying action when school let out.

At this moment, his hand tightly gripped the hilt of a knife in his pocket, his knuckles turning white from the force. His heart pounded like a drum, and a flash of resolve crossed his eyes. The school bell rang, and students began pouring out of the school gates, their laughter and chatter scattering in the cold wind.

”Lin Hao, the weather’s pretty good today.” A boy patted his classmate’s shoulder.

”Yeah, the sun is just right, perfect for playing soccer!” Lin Hao replied with a smile, completely failing to notice Xue Wenhui nearby.

”Now is the time!” Xue Wenhui muttered to himself, his steps slow but steady as he approached the crowd.

Just then, a man wearing a black down jacket suddenly entered Xue’s field of vision. The man’s gaze was sharp, as if it could pierce through everything.

This man who suddenly appeared was Zhang Wei. Zhang Wei had waited here for a long time without seeing any police cars or officers. It seemed that An Xiaoxi’s anonymous report this morning had not caught the attention of the police.

Zhang Wei frowned, clearly not believing Xue Wenhui’s excuses, and continued to press: ”Waiting for someone? Do you need to be this nervous just to wait for someone?”

Xue Wenhui’s heart beat even more violently, and fine beads of sweat broke out on his forehead. He knew he couldn’t delay any longer and had to act quickly. He suddenly tried to push Zhang Wei aside and rush toward the crowd.

Seeing the situation, the security guards ran back to the guardhouse to grab steel forks and shields.

The scene instantly fell into chaos. Students scattered in panic, screams and footsteps intertwining as the air filled with tension and fear.

”Old Liu, stop him! Everyone, get out of the way, this man has a knife!” Zhang Wei shouted loudly.

At this point, Liu Haorui, who had been waiting in the shadows, rushed out quickly, holding a steel fork and blocking Xue Wenhui’s path.

Xue Wenhui’s eyes turned red as he brandished the weapon, struggling frantically.

”Old Zhang, quick, he’s too strong, I’m losing control!” Liu Haorui was being dragged back and forth, his body unstable, and it looked like the steel fork was about to slip from his hands.

Zhang Wei hastily pulled a stun baton from his jacket pocket. The baton made a ”sizzle-sizzle” sound as he thrust it toward Xue Wenhui.

Seeing the stun baton coming at him, Xue Wenhui’s eyes went red. Using every ounce of strength he had, he instantly broke free from the steel fork. The fork fell to the ground with a clang, and Liu Haorui tumbled to the floor.

”Quick, pin him down!” Zhang Wei’s voice exploded through the chaotic noise like a clap of thunder. He quickly bent down, his palms sweating, grabbed the steel fork from the ground, and thrust it toward Liu Haorui. The steel fork glinted in the sunlight, reflecting Liu Haorui’s pale face.

Now on the ground, Liu Haorui’s body was stiff. He watched helplessly as Xue Wenhui, blade in hand and eyes flashing with murderous frenzy, charged straight at him. The blade sliced a cold arc through the air, aimed directly at his throat. Liu Haorui was scared out of his wits, his mouth wide open but unable to make a sound, his body seemingly frozen in place.

At this critical juncture, the security guards who had just gone to get the steel forks and shields came rushing in from all directions. The braver guards brandished rubber batons and swung them at Xue Wenhui.

Liu Haorui was temporarily out of danger, his heart pounding like a drum as he gasped for air.

Several brave parents also reacted quickly in this moment of crisis, stepping forward without hesitation to shield the children. Some held mops, others gripped clubs, their eyes shining with the determined light of protectors, like fierce beasts guarding their young, vowing to keep the danger at bay.

Seeing more and more people, the panic in Xue Wenhui’s heart surged like a tide. He spotted a gap, and a flash of desperation crossed his eyes. Gritting his teeth, he tensed his muscles and decided to fight to the death to break through the encirclement. His footsteps were frantic and hurried, the blade tracing dangerous paths in the air as the tension in the atmosphere reached a near-solid state.

Just then, Zhang Wei reacted with the speed of a leopard. With quick eyes and hands, he seized the moment Xue Wenhui was distracted by looking for an escape and pulled out his stun gun with lightning speed. His hand was as steady as a rock as he aimed precisely at Xue Wenhui. With a harsh ”sizzle-sizzle,” the current pierced through every inch of Xue Wenhui’s skin like a bolt of lightning. He let out a heart-wrenching, blood-curdling scream, his limbs jerking violently as if pulled by an invisible force.

Facing this vicious criminal, Zhang Wei did not waver in the slightest, thrusting the stun gun into Xue Wenhui’s body again. Xue Wenhui’s body seemed to be drained of all strength, and he finally slumped powerlessly to the ground, unable to move anymore like a pile of mud.

Seeing the criminal finally down, the nearby security guards quickly produced pre-prepared ropes and deftly tied Xue Wenhui up, ensuring he could not resist again. The teacher on duty also took out a phone at this critical moment, fingers trembling but still quickly dialing the police. In that instant, everyone felt as if a thousand-pound weight had been lifted. The suffocatingly tense atmosphere gradually dissipated, replaced by the relief of having survived a disaster.

Shortly after, the piercing wail of police sirens sounded in the distance, like a clarion call of hope, rapidly approaching the scene. The well-trained officers jumped out of their cars, their movements skillful and decisive. They mercilessly handcuffed Xue Wenhui and unceremoniously hauled him into the police car. With lights flashing, the police car roared away.
