15: Chapter 15 Buying a New Car”With such a Qilin loli in my house, my empire shall be free of worries.”

Zhang Wei felt a bit like an old father watching his children succeed.

An Xiaoxi rolled her eyes and said, ”Don’t get happy too early. There are too many things to handle at once this time. I need to stay somewhere not far from the warehouse.”

”The roadside cameras are the easiest to deal with, but the internal cameras require placing a signal transmitter inside the park beforehand to crack them. As for the warehouse door locks, they’re electronic; I’ll need someone to transmit data from the keypad for me to crack it. Finally, moving all the RAM sticks out needs to be done within a two-hour window between security patrols. These issues are all quite troublesome.”

Zhang Wei was quite optimistic: ”Small stuff. Making plans is my forte.”

After thinking for a moment, Zhang Wei had a plan. The immediate priority was to go buy a car; after all, with three hundred sticks of RAM, they definitely couldn’t move them without a vehicle.

Preparing to head out, the little loli mentioned she needed to urgently purchase some computer hardware at the Digital City. Zhang Wei directly transferred 50,000 RMB to her, telling her to use the extra money to get him a laptop.

Zhang Wei had sold his laptop the last time he recycled the bitcoin and hadn’t bought a new one yet; sometimes it was inconvenient not having a computer.

(Industrial and Commercial Bank of China: Your account ****** received 82,000 RMB. Current balance: 662,902.63 RMB.)

Zhang Wei received the text and glanced at it. He estimated it was the lottery prize money arriving; after income tax, it was roughly this amount.

Zhang Wei sent a WeChat message to Liu Haorui, stating the money had been received and telling him to meet at his house in the afternoon.

Stepping out, Zhang Wei took a taxi to the NIO integrated showroom located in Puxi Riverside.

He had done his homework last night; currently, an electric vehicle best suited his needs.

First of all, electric vehicles don’t require fighting for a license plate. In City Name, a fuel car license plate has always been the key evidence determining whether a person is lucky or cursed. There are plenty of people who haven’t managed to get one even after bidding for three years.

Electric vehicles come with a license plate, so that’s not an issue. Secondly, electric vehicles are quieter; starting and driving them makes almost no sound. It was perfect for Zhang Wei and the others’ low-profile operations.

”Welcome to NIO. Would you like me to introduce our models to you?” a saleswoman smiled as soon as he entered the showroom.

Zhang Wei said, ”I’d like to see the SUV models.”

The saleswoman smiled and said, ”Certainly, sir. Our current ES7 is a mid-to-large SUV, while the ES5 and ES6 are coupe SUVs. Would you like me to introduce all of them to you?”

”No need, just take me to see the ES7.”

The NIO ES7 is a mid-to-large SUV. He was quite satisfied with its appearance and configuration. The large space would also be convenient for carrying cargo.

Arriving at the ES7 display, the saleswoman gave an enthusiastic introduction, and Zhang Wei got in to experience it. The tall body and spacious interior suited Zhang Wei well. The front seats even came with functions like ventilation and massage. He felt quite satisfied with everything.

”If I pay in full now, can I get the car today?”

Zhang Wei had an operation tonight; it would be best if he could get the car today, otherwise he’d have to rent one temporarily.

The saleswoman’s eyes squinted from her wide smile. A sale commission was in the bag! She loved straightforward customers like this most of all.

”Of course. We have cars in stock in our garage. Once we process a temporary license, you can drive it away in about two hours.”

Zhang Wei paid decisively, choosing a high-spec executive model for 483,000. He chose the durable-looking ’Nanna Gray’ for the color.

After handing his driver’s license to the staff to handle the temporary plate, Zhang Wei made an appointment with the saleswoman to pick up the car in the afternoon and then left.

Taking a taxi to Digital City, An Xiaoxi had already finished her shopping and was sitting in a coffee shop across from the Digital City, inputting data into her devices.

After the two met up, they prepared to head to the Mini-warehouse to set things up in advance.

On the way, Zhang Wei said, ”In a bit, I’ll be responsible for attracting attention; you just focus on the setup.” An Xiaoxi nodded.

The two arrived at the entrance of the logistics park. Zhang Wei directly called the Mini-warehouse customer service, saying he wanted to rent a warehouse. Before long, a Middle-aged Woman walked over.

”Hello, sir. Are you the one who wants to rent a warehouse?”

Zhang Wei made up a reason on the fly. ”Yes, I’m moving recently and need a place to store some things temporarily. Can we take a look on-site first?”

The Middle-aged Woman readily agreed. ”No problem, I’ll take you up to see. Our Mini-warehouses range from a dozen square meters to a hundred, with different rents. It’s best to find a suitable size that fits everything just right, so it’s more cost-effective for you.”

The three went upstairs and saw that the massive warehouse had been divided into small rooms resembling student dormitories.

The Middle-aged Woman walked to a door and introduced, ”Our Mini-warehouses use electronic locks. You don’t need a key to access your items; you just need to press the password to open the door. It’s very convenient.”

Zhang Wei smiled and said, ”Can we go inside to see the space?”

”Of course.” The Middle-aged Woman found a vacant warehouse, entered the password, and led the two inside.

An Xiaoxi trailed at the very back. While the Middle-aged Woman entered the room, she stuck a card-like object onto the door’s password lock. Not long after it was attached, an indicator light on the card began to flash.

An Xiaoxi returned to the hallway. Seeing several potted plants there, she pretended to wander around, walked to one, and stuffed a signal generator into the flowerpot.

By then, the indicator light on the card had stopped flashing. An Xiaoxi removed the card and nodded to Zhang Wei inside the room.

Zhang Wei was inside chatting aimlessly with the Middle-aged Woman. Seeing that An Xiaoxi had finished, he left on the pretext of needing to go back and discuss it with his family.

After leaving the property park, An Xiaoxi’s excitement hadn’t faded.

She pulled Zhang Wei and said excitedly, ”This is my first time doing something like this. I felt like I was filming Mission: Impossible just now. It was so thrilling!”

Zhang Wei said puzzledly, ”But you looked quite calm inside just now.”

”That just shows I have a talent for acting,” An Xiaoxi said proudly.

The two took a taxi back to the NIO showroom. By then, the temporary plate was ready, and Zhang Wei was a bit excited as he received the car keys.

The first car in his life, and a high-end one worth 480,000. For his former self, it was something he wouldn’t even dare to imagine.

”Let’s go, your big brother will take you for a spin!” Zhang Wei waved his hand. The two got into the car and drove away from the showroom.

It had to be said that electric vehicles have their advantages: fast acceleration from a standstill and a strong sense of being pushed back into the seat. Plus, there was almost no noise inside the car.

The two drove a lap along the Riverside Ring Road before returning to Jiangnan Garden with satisfaction.

Just as they reached the community entrance, they saw from afar a man with a mohawk being stopped outside by the security guard.

Only then did Zhang Wei remember that he hadn’t told the property management about a visitor today; Liu Haorui definitely couldn’t get in.

However, this guy’s outfit was an absolute eyesore. Zhang Wei didn’t get out; he stopped the car at the community entrance and honked the horn at Liu Haorui.

Liu Haorui was busy arguing with the security guard and paid no attention to the noise over here.

Zhang Wei had no choice but to get out and shout, ”Old Liu, over here!” An Xiaoxi also rolled down the window and waved at him.

Only then did Liu Haorui turn around and see Zhang Wei and the NIO ES7 parked beside him.

”Wow! Old Zhang, you actually bought a new car. It looks pretty high-tech!”

Zhang Wei stood by the car, putting on an air of authority, and shouted, ”Now that you see the NIO (Future), why do you not bow!”

Liu Haorui looked completely dazed. It seemed he hadn’t played as the ’Destined One’ before.
