Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Of course, Yvonne Shelby believed in the abilities of Jayce, Sierra, and the others.

But believing in them didn’t mean she wouldn’t worry.

Every time they went out on a mission, she would start worrying from the moment they left.

This time, they hadn’t returned for so many days, and she was exceptionally worried.

During this period, all sorts of scenarios had run through her mind. She couldn’t sleep well at night, waking up countless times.

Kevin Everett tried to console her and tell her to relax, but she just couldn’t.

It wasn’t until now, seeing them return with her own eyes, that her heart could finally settle.

She knew she couldn’t stop them from leaving Subterra.

’But at least stay in Subterra for a little longer!’

’Don’t go out again so soon!’

Hearing Yvonne Shelby’s words, Jayce’s heart felt a little heavy too.

”Mom, don’t worry. We earned a lot of Contribution Points this time. We probably won’t be going out again for a while.”

”That’s right!”

Sierra Sullivan nodded quickly in agreement. At the same time, she pulled out a thick stack of Contribution Points from her space—at least several thousand—and placed them in Yvonne Shelby’s hands.

”Aunt Shelby, take these. Buy whatever you want. You don’t have to be so frugal.”

Before Yvonne Shelby could refuse, Sierra Sullivan had already stood up and walked over to the supply shelf.

The fresh fruits and vegetables on the shelf were long gone.

However, there were still plenty of other vacuum-sealed foods.

Sierra Sullivan took all sorts of food out of her space, filling the shelves to the brim.

”Aunt Shelby, you and Mr. Everett don’t need to skimp. Eat whatever you want. I’ll come by every two or three days from now on. We might be short on other things, but we’ll never be short on food. You don’t have to be frugal.”

Looking at the overflowing shelves, Yvonne Shelby’s heart felt full as well.

She didn’t have a daughter, but Sierra was no different from a biological one.

In fact, some people’s own daughters might not even be as thoughtful as Sierra.

Yvonne Shelby nodded. ”Alright then, I won’t be so formal with you all.”

”Of course you don’t have to be formal with us, Aunt Shelby!” Sierra Sullivan said with a smile. ”We’re family!”

Yvonne Shelby looked over with a smile. ”We certainly are family. It would be even better if Sierra could call me ’Mom’ someday.”

Sierra Sullivan hadn’t expected Yvonne Shelby to suddenly say something like that, and her face instantly turned red.

’Call Yvonne Shelby ”Mom”?’

’It’s not that I couldn’t.’

For a long time now, she had already thought of Yvonne Shelby as a mother.

But acknowledging it in her heart and saying it out loud were two completely different things.

At least for now, she wasn’t ready.

Jayce nudged Yvonne Shelby’s arm. ”Mom, why bring that up all of a sudden...”

”It just slipped out in the heat of the moment, didn’t it?” Yvonne Shelby shook her head with a smile. ”I didn’t mean anything by it... Alright, alright, I won’t say any more, okay?”

Nathan Thorne quickly sidled up. ”Aunt Shelby, I have something good too.”

Yvonne Shelby looked at Nathan Thorne, amused. ”And what might that be?”

”My Healing Ability has gotten stronger. Aunt Shelby, if you ever have a headache, a fever, or any underlying health conditions, just tell me. I guarantee I can cure it for you.”

”Really?” Yvonne Shelby was a little surprised. ”Your Superpower can be used like that?”

”Of course! I was a doctor to begin with!” Nathan Thorne said with a straight face. ”I’m a famous doctor in Subterra now. Before I left for the mission, there was a line of people waiting to see me every day!”

Seeing Nathan Thorne raise his chin proudly, Yvonne Shelby couldn’t help but chuckle. ”If that’s the case, then why don’t you try treating me? I have been having some headaches lately. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t been resting well.”

”You got it!” Nathan Thorne’s voice was even louder than before. ”Consider it done!”

’Finally, my time to shine!’

Nathan Thorne indeed hadn’t been bragging about his skills.

With him around, no matter the illness, it could be cured.

Let alone a minor issue like a headache—that was cured in minutes.

Yvonne Shelby had been tormented by headaches recently. Now that the pain was gone, she instantly felt much more relaxed.

She shook her head. ”That’s amazing! Nathan, you’re a good doctor!”

”But of course!” Nathan Thorne grinned even more proudly.

Sierra Sullivan watched the two of them with a smile.

’One really knows how to praise, and the other really knows how to take it.’

Since they were back, Sierra and the others weren’t in a hurry to leave.

They chatted for a while longer before starting to prepare dinner.

Just as they were about finished preparing dinner, Kevin Everett returned as well.

The moment Kevin Everett walked in, his gaze swept over each of them.

Seeing that their spirits were high, their complexions good, and they showed no signs of injury, he instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

”It’s good that you’re back safe! I heard you were back while I was still at work today.”

When he heard the news, he had wanted to come back and check on them immediately.

But in his position, there were too many things to handle every day that required constant attention. He couldn’t just leave whenever he wanted, so he had to curb his impatience and wait until he was off work.

After work, Kevin Everett had jogged all the way here, only stopping just before he reached their home to catch his breath and wipe away his sweat before knocking on the door.

Of course, Kevin Everett would never say any of this.

Kevin Everett didn’t say it, but it wasn’t as if Jayce couldn’t guess.

But the father and son had a tacit understanding; one didn’t speak, and the other didn’t ask.

Everything was understood without words.

During dinner, they didn’t bother with the old ’no talking at the dinner table’ rule.

Kevin Everett asked about their time away on the mission.

Jayce, in turn, asked about how Kevin Everett and Yvonne Shelby had been doing, and whether anything special had happened in Subterra recently.

While eating, Sierra Sullivan also took care of Candice Tate, all the while listening intently to their conversation.

When she heard Jayce ask about the situation in Subterra, Sierra finally looked over.

She was quite curious too!

In a Subterra this large, with so many survivors living under such high-pressure conditions, it was normal for hundreds or even thousands of incidents to happen every day.

However, Jayce was asking about major events.

He wasn’t interested in knowing about trivial matters.

Kevin Everett sighed. ”How could nothing have happened?”

Even though he had only said that one sentence without giving any details, Sierra already had a keen sense that the matter was likely not simple.

Sure enough, after composing himself, Kevin Everett began to explain the situation in detail.

Over this period, Subterra’s rules and regulations had become more and more comprehensive. On the surface, it seemed more orderly, but at the same time, the class divisions had also become more obvious.

The ones with the highest status weren’t the Superpower Users with formidable abilities.

The highest status belonged to the people in power, the upper echelons, and their children and relatives.

Superpower Users came next.

As for the ordinary survivors with no background and no Superpowers, their status in Subterra had taken a sharp downturn.
