Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Although Nathan Thorne hadn’t yet processed what was happening, he subconsciously followed Jayce’s advice.

”Thank you, Captain Grant! You’re a truly great person!”

Hector Grant, ”...”

’He really didn’t have to give me the ”good guy” card!’

Hector Grant understood what Jayce was thinking.

Although Jayce had presumed his intentions, Hector Grant didn’t blame him.

It was completely normal for Jayce to think that way.

Hector Grant took out the Crystal Core and gave it directly to Nathan Thorne.

”I hope you’ll focus on your Healing Ability.”

In this post-apocalyptic world, immense combat power was indeed important.

But no matter how strong you were, there was always someone stronger.

And no matter how powerful, you could still get injured.

But with the current shortage of doctors and medicine, even the most powerful Superpower Users could die from injuries or other accidents.

That’s why someone like Nathan Thorne, who possessed a Healing Ability, was especially vital.

Take today, for example. If it weren’t for Nathan Thorne, perhaps half of the twenty people in their vehicle wouldn’t have made it.

But because Nathan Thorne was there, not only did no one die, but everyone’s injuries had also healed completely.

Nathan Thorne could already accomplish this much. If his Healing Ability were to improve even more, how formidable would he become?

Perhaps, in the distant future, Nathan Thorne could not only heal external wounds but also completely cure all sorts of underlying medical conditions.

If that time ever came, humanity’s chances of survival in this apocalypse would be that much greater!

Watched by everyone’s burning gazes, Nathan Thorne took the Crystal Core and, without any hesitation, immediately began to absorb it.

Watching Nathan Thorne quickly enter a state of cultivation, Hector Grant’s eyes held a trace of envy.

He envied Nathan’s talent, and even more so, his luck.

It wasn’t just Hector Grant watching Nathan cultivate; in fact, many people on the second floor were staring at him without blinking.

If this Crystal Core had been given to someone else, they might have had some objections.

But with it going to Nathan Thorne, no one had a problem.

They had all witnessed firsthand today just how powerful Nathan’s Healing Ability was.

No one present could guarantee they would never get injured.

The post-apocalyptic world was fraught with danger, and no one knew whether disaster or an accident would strike first.

Even though they were all Superpower Users, even though they were fine for now, and even if they stayed inside Subterra from now on, they couldn’t guarantee they would live to a peaceful old age.

No one could say for certain that they wouldn’t need Nathan’s help in the future.

The stronger Nathan’s Superpower became, the better it was for all of them.

With Nathan around, it was like having a second life.

And perhaps even more than just a second one.

Nathan had no idea what everyone was thinking, much less that he had become the focus of all their expectations.

At that moment, Nathan only felt a fire burning inside him, a massive energy rampaging through his body.

He had never felt anything like this before.

For a moment, he was utterly panicked.

But before he could consciously react, his body reacted on its own even faster.

His three Superpowers, like three robbers, suddenly leaped out and completely divided the energy among themselves.

Nathan was startled by this sudden development and didn’t even have a chance to process what was happening.

When he came to his senses, he instantly remembered Hector Grant’s prior instructions.

’Focus on the Healing Ability!’

’This Crystal Core is from Hector, so this counts as a partnership!’

’If you take someone’s Crystal Core, you have to deliver! Anything less would be shameless!’

Nathan hurriedly tried to snatch energy from the other two Superpowers to secure more for his Healing Ability.

The Healing Ability itself was quite competitive, fiercely reclaiming the larger share of the energy.

Seeing this, Nathan let out a huge sigh of relief.

’As long as it puts up a fight! I was worried it wouldn’t!’

’This is exhausting!’

Nathan was thinking of resting for a moment, but in the next instant, he slowly opened his eyes.

As he opened his eyes, Nathan met several pairs of concerned gazes.

Jayce raised an eyebrow. ”What was going on with you just now? You looked like you were in a lot of pain. Is everything okay?”

Sierra Sullivan quickly added, ”How are you feeling now? Now that you have this experience, you can’t be so reckless next time.”

Hector Grant was even more worried.

The Crystal Core was gone.

If Nathan hadn’t succeeded, it would have been a total loss.

It wasn’t that Hector Grant lacked compassion.

It was just that in his position, he often had to consider the bigger picture when thinking about things.

Nathan was a bit dazed by the barrage of questions. ”What’s wrong? I feel fine! I was just helping my Healing Ability fight the other two Superpowers for energy. It was exhausting, but I succeeded in the end. Other than that, nothing else happened. Why is everyone so worried?”

Hearing Nathan’s answer, Sierra Sullivan and the others exchanged glances.

For a moment, they couldn’t tell if Nathan was being serious or just spouting nonsense.

His words really didn’t sound like something a sane person would say.

But then, remembering it was Nathan who said it, Sierra felt a sense of acceptance.

Hector Grant also found Nathan’s words bizarre, but he quickly extracted the main point. The main point was: Nathan had succeeded!

”So your Healing Ability, what level is it now?”

When he asked this, Hector Grant’s voice was a little tight.

Nathan focused for a moment, then answered with some uncertainty, ”I think... it’s at the Sixth Level.”

Hector Grant was happy at first, but then he frowned.

”It either is or it isn’t. What do you mean, ’you think’?”

Couldn’t Nathan tell for himself whether it was or not?

Nathan scratched his head. ”Then it is!”

Finally hearing a definite answer, Hector Grant let out a long breath. ”Good enough!”

The people who had been watching them grew incredibly excited upon hearing Nathan’s words. They looked as happy as if they were the ones whose Superpowers had leveled up.

But it was understandable.

After all, if Nathan’s Superpower improved, they would all benefit.

Everyone was not only happy for Nathan, but they also began treating him like a precious panda.

Even when Nathan needed to go to the bathroom, several people would volunteer to get up and accompany him, terrified he might run into some accident.

Nathan had firmly refused at first.

He wasn’t a schoolkid anymore who liked having company to go to the bathroom.

’I don’t like it, and I don’t need it!’

But his refusal was useless.

In the end, he was still ushered away, surrounded by the group.

Seeing this, Sierra Sullivan and Jayce looked at each other and couldn’t help but laugh.

Things were finally looking up for Nathan.
