Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Sierra Sullivan, of course, knew the woman was only saying that because she was trying to look out for her.

However, Sierra Sullivan didn’t change her mind. ”We’ll take three—”

Before she could finish, Dominic Crawford tugged on her sleeve.

Dominic Crawford looked anxious. ”Sierra Sullivan, why are you renting three units? You’re not including me, are you? I don’t need—”

”Why don’t you need one?” Sierra Sullivan retorted. ”Do you have a place to stay at your family’s home?”

Dominic Crawford didn’t answer right away.

But in a situation like this, no answer was an answer in itself.

After holding it in for a moment, Dominic Crawford finally managed to say, ”It’s fine. It’s just a place to sleep, right? I can crash anywhere for a night...”

”You might think it’s fine, but I don’t,” Sierra Sullivan said, looking at Dominic Crawford seriously. ”None of us knows how long we have left to live. That means we have to live as well as we can while we’re still here, so we have no regrets when we die. I’m only renting this for you for one month. You think you can’t find a job in a month? That you can’t earn any Contribution Points? Next month, you’re on your own. Even if you asked me for help then, I wouldn’t give it!”

Sierra Sullivan was deliberately using harsh words, but the tall, sturdy man’s eyes still turned red. ”Thank you! Thank you, Sierra Sullivan!”

Jayce clapped Dominic Crawford on the shoulder. ”Mr. Crawford, we’ve known each other for so long. With our friendship, there’s no need for ’thank yous.’ Are you trying to put distance between us on purpose?”

”No!” Dominic Crawford quickly shook his head. ”That’s not what I meant...”

”If that’s not what you meant, then don’t say another word!”

Nathan Thorne chimed in, ”Yeah, Mr. Crawford, learn from me! I’m not shy about accepting their help! Once I earn some Contribution Points, I’ll pay them rent! With my skills, you think I can’t earn Contribution Points? I refuse to believe it!”

People who didn’t know Nathan Thorne well might find his personality a bit obnoxious.

But after knowing him for a while, you’d discover that this kind of personality actually has its advantages.

Like right now. By accepting Sierra Sullivan and Jayce’s help without any fuss, Nathan Thorne made the situation more relaxed for everyone.

Seeing that they had reached an agreement, the young lady at the counter didn’t try to persuade them further. She quickly processed the rental paperwork for them and handed over three keys.

”These are the keys to your apartments. The locks have been specially modified; not even a Gold Ability User could open them. The only thing that can open these doors are the keys in your hands, so you can rest assured about security. The keys are very important. Keep them safe. Losing one would be a huge hassle, and you’d have to pay a penalty in Contribution Points.”

Nathan Thorne asked curiously, ”How much is the penalty?”

The young lady gave Nathan Thorne a complicated look. ”More expensive than your rent.”

Nathan Thorne: ”...”

The small key had felt practically weightless in his palm.

But after hearing what the young lady said, Nathan Thorne suddenly felt a heavy weight in his hand.

’This key is seriously heavy!’

The group soon returned to the apartments they had rented.

Just as the young lady had said, very few people rented these apartments, so most of them were vacant.

The three units they rented were right next to each other. From now on, they would be neighbors.

Inside, there was only a simple bed, a table, chairs, and a cabinet. There were no other daily necessities.

Other people might have had to figure out how to furnish the place or spend Contribution Points to buy things.

But with Sierra Sullivan around, none of that was a concern.

Sierra Sullivan took a walk through Dominic Crawford’s and Nathan Thorne’s apartments, and just like that, she furnished them with everything they needed.

The two of them could move right in.

Looking at the apartment that had been transformed into a home in the blink of an eye, Dominic Crawford’s eyes reddened again.

He was a tough-as-nails hard-ass when facing down Aberrant Beasts and zombies.

But now, he had become extraordinarily sentimental.

Sierra Sullivan saw it, but she pretended she hadn’t.

Dominic Crawford was already embarrassed enough; there was no need to say anything more.

Besides the daily necessities, Sierra Sullivan also left them a gas stove, a gas canister, as well as rice, flour, cooking oil, seasonings, some long-lasting vegetables, and a variety of instant foods like ramen and snail rice noodles.

”We’ve been busy all morning, so you two should rest for a bit. Get something to eat for lunch on your own. Tonight, we’ll all have dinner together to celebrate our new homes,” Sierra Sullivan said.

Dominic Crawford and Nathan Thorne both readily agreed.

After saying goodbye to the two of them, Sierra Sullivan and Jayce returned to their own apartment.

After closing the door, Sierra Sullivan repeated the process.

She took a turn around the apartment, filling it with all sorts of things until it was fully furnished.

There were two bedrooms. Sierra Sullivan and Jayce would take one, and Candice Tate would have the other to herself.

Sierra Sullivan decorated Candice Tate’s room to be warm and adorable.

She even put a large power bank in there, connected to a desk lamp.

That way, Candice Tate wouldn’t have to worry about the room being pitch-black.

Even though they were living underground, they couldn’t be without a little light.

After finishing with Candice Tate’s room, Sierra Sullivan finally returned to the room she shared with Jayce.

At the foot of the bed, she placed a loveseat, which could be used for sitting or for tossing dirty clothes onto.

Jayce was sitting on the loveseat.

When he saw Sierra Sullivan walk in, Jayce immediately stood up. ”Sierra, come here.”

”What is it?”

Sierra Sullivan asked as she walked over and sat down.

Jayce had Sierra Sullivan turn sideways, then placed his hands on her shoulders. ”You must be exhausted from this morning. Let me give you a massage to help you relax.”

”Oh? So nice to me?” Sierra Sullivan asked with a smile.

”When am I ever not good to you?”

”Since you’re being so good, why not give me a full-body massage?”

Not one to be polite with Jayce, Sierra Sullivan took off her outer layer of clothes and flopped face-down onto the bed.

The mattress was perfectly firm, and the fuzzy four-piece bedding set was smooth and soft to the touch. Lying on it felt like sinking into a cloud of cotton.

Sierra Sullivan’s constantly tense body finally, completely relaxed in that moment.

Jayce walked over, placed his large hands on Sierra Sullivan’s neck, and began to knead her muscles.

From her shoulders, down her spine, to her lower back...

Jayce’s technique was no worse than a professional masseuse’s.

Sierra Sullivan closed her eyes, savoring the feeling. It wasn’t long before she started to feel drowsy.

She didn’t actually fall asleep, though.

After enjoying it for a little longer, Sierra Sullivan rolled over and looked at Jayce from her side. ”Alright, that’s enough. You’re tired too, you should rest for a bit!”

Jayce also took off his outer clothes and lay down next to Sierra Sullivan, wrapping an arm around her waist and burying his face in the crook of her neck.

”Sierra, this is so nice,” he murmured.

For the past month or so, although they had been together day and night, they were always surrounded by more than a dozen other people and never had a chance to be alone.

And for the two days since returning to the base, they had been staying with Kevin Everett and Yvonne Shelby, which came with its own set of inconveniences.

It was only at this very moment, with no one else around, that the two of them could finally be together in peace and quiet.
