Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Candice Tate bit her lip, not answering right away.

But the look she gave Sierra Sullivan was filled with reluctance and hurt.

Seeing this, Sierra Sullivan sighed silently.

”Fine. As long as you’re not scared, you can come with us.”

Candice Tate didn’t break into a tearful smile. Instead, her expression grew even more serious and earnest.

”Sierra, I won’t hold you back! I can protect you, too!”

Hearing this, Sierra Sullivan gave a silent smile and ruffled Candice Tate’s hair. ”Okay! I believe you.”

Candice Tate pressed her lips together firmly.

’She knows Sierra doesn’t believe me.’

’But that’s okay.’

’In a little while, I’ll show her with my actions that everything I said is true!’

’I really can protect Sierra!’

Nathan Thorne looked at Sierra Sullivan with disapproval. ”Sierra Sullivan, it’s too dangerous outside. Bringing her along might be—”

’Isn’t it too dangerous?’

’Will she hold us back?’

’Will she get Sierra Sullivan killed because of this?’

The questions reached his lips, but he couldn’t bring himself to say them.

Sierra Sullivan smiled at Nathan Thorne. ”Don’t worry, I won’t let Candice Tate hold you back.”

Nathan Thorne’s eyebrows shot up in anger. ”Is that what I meant?”

’Was that what he was worried about?’

’Sierra Sullivan was going to be the death of him!’

Of course, Sierra Sullivan knew Nathan would be angry if she said that.

But she said it anyway.

Finally, Nathan Thorne shook his head. ”Fine, fine. Since she’s awakened, let’s go!”

With that, he took the lead, charged out, and joined the battle.

Watching Nathan Thorne’s retreating back, Sierra Sullivan felt a wave of emotion.

’When they first met, she didn’t like Nathan Thorne. They even clashed with each other.’

’Who would have thought back then that their relationship with him would one day become this good!’

’Nathan Thorne’s personality might not be the best, but his moral principles were exceptionally high.’

’He could have just shut the door and protected himself, but he resolutely chose to go out and fight.’

That was something Sierra Sullivan greatly admired.

And it wasn’t just Sierra Sullivan who admired him; Jayce did as well.

”Sierra, Candice Tate, let’s go!”

Jayce said, taking the lead at the very front.

Candice Tate walked in the middle, with Sierra Sullivan at the rear.

The three of them had only just drawn near when Hector Grant noticed them.

His brow twitched uncontrollably, especially when he saw Candice Tate.

While tangling with zombies and Aberrant Beasts, he slowly moved closer to Sierra Sullivan’s group of three.

”Jayce! Sierra Sullivan, get Candice Tate to the vehicle first!”

Before Sierra Sullivan could answer, vines suddenly sprouted from Candice Tate’s hands.

The vines grew with incredible speed.

In the blink of an eye, they were already lush and thick with leaves.

Not only that, but the vines seemed to have eyes of their own, heading straight for the Aberrant Beasts and zombies.

As soon as they touched a zombie or an Aberrant Beast, they would rapidly cling to it, wrapping it up tightly like a cicada pupa.

The other Superpower Users were stunned for a moment when they saw this, but they quickly reacted, swiftly chopping off the heads of the zombies or Aberrant Beasts to end the fight.

It all happened very quickly.

So fast that no one had time to react.

Candice Tate then looked up at Sierra Sullivan with a smile. ”Sierra, am I amazing? I really can protect you!”

”Amazing!” Sierra Sullivan’s voice was filled with excitement. ”How did you get so powerful, Candice Tate? Who gave you these seeds?”

Sierra Sullivan had never seen vines like these before.

She was certain she hadn’t been the one to give them to Candice Tate.

”It was Mr. Hayes.”

’Mr. Hayes?’

For a moment, Sierra Sullivan couldn’t recall who Mr. Hayes was.

Jayce’s mind worked faster. ”Candice Tate, the Mr. Hayes you’re talking about... is he Dr. Hayes?”

Candice Tate nodded emphatically. ”Yeah! But he told me to call him Mr. Hayes.”

’How could Dr. Hayes and Candice Tate know each other?’

’And why would he give her seeds like these?’

’Why had Candice Tate never mentioned this before?’

Sierra Sullivan felt she had so many questions for Candice Tate.

But she also knew that now was not the time for a chat.

The zombies and Aberrant Beasts were fearless creatures. Even though countless of their own had already fallen, they showed no signs of retreating.

If anything, they were even more frenzied than before.

It seemed as if every single one of them was giving its all, determined to kill Sierra Sullivan and the others.

Sierra Sullivan didn’t know why, but she could sense an intense killing intent coming from them.

But the killing intent didn’t seem to originate from the creatures themselves; it felt as if it had been attached to them.

The feeling was baffling to Sierra Sullivan.

’Who on earth hated her so much?’

After thinking for a while, Sierra Sullivan still couldn’t figure out who it could be.

’If I can’t figure it out, I might as well stop thinking about it.’

The most important thing right now was to eliminate all these Aberrant Beasts and zombies, then quickly get in the vehicle and leave this place.

Once they returned to Subterra, there would be plenty of time to ponder it properly.

Even with the addition of three very capable people—Sierra Sullivan, Candice Tate, and Jayce—they hadn’t completely gained the upper hand in the battle.

The zombies with Superpowers were too agile. Plus, they were tireless, felt no pain, and could still fight even with broken arms and legs.

Compared to them, humans seemed much more fragile.

Superpowers could be depleted, and strength would eventually be exhausted.

As their Superpowers were consumed and their stamina failed to keep up, many people got injured.

Hector Grant frowned as he watched, having no choice but to provide cover with the others so the injured could retreat to the vehicle to rest.

At the same time, Hector Grant looked at Nathan Thorne. ”Nathan Thorne, you get in the vehicle too. Treat them. You don’t need to heal them completely, just stop the bleeding so they don’t die from blood loss.”

Nathan Thorne was a little reluctant to go back to the vehicle.

Compared to dealing with logistics, he much preferred to be in the fight.

But he also understood that for him, right now, going to the vehicle to treat the injured was far more useful than staying here to fight zombies and Aberrant Beasts.

Nathan Thorne sighed. ”Fine, I get it!”

Nathan Thorne got into the vehicle.

Seeing the rows of weakened patients inside, he suddenly felt the pressure mount.

Although his Healing Ability had improved significantly, it hadn’t yet reached the Third Level.

He wasn’t even sure himself how many Superpower Users he could actually save.

Nathan Thorne didn’t hesitate long, quickly walking over to the person closest to him.

The man had a long gash on his face, from which dark red blood was trickling down.

Nathan Thorne stared at it for only a moment before raising his hand toward the wound.

As a ball of white light emerged from Nathan Thorne’s palm, the injured man felt a warmth spread through his wound.

The wound, which had been agonizingly painful before, first grew warm, then started to tingle, as if it were rapidly healing.

Finally, he could barely feel the pain at all.

At that moment, Nathan Thorne stopped. ”Done.”

The man subconsciously touched the wound and could feel that it had scabbed over.

He was overjoyed, but also a little incredulous. ”You’ve already healed it this much, why not just heal it completely?”

Nathan Thorne: ”???”
