A Star Reborn: The Queen’s Return

As Xia Ling held onto Grandma Ye and entered the house, Eldest Aunt announced that dinner was ready and called for everyone to eat.

At the dining table, Xia Ling only picked the happy things to share with Grandma Ye such as how fresh the air was in the countryside and how the lotus flowers in the lotus lake were about to bloom. She did not mention a single word about unhappy things.

Other relatives, including Eldest Aunt, had heard about what happened in the pavilion in the middle of the lake. Just as she entered the kitchen, there were already a few countryside acquaintances trying to find out what had happened through indirect questioning. They asked how Young Master Nan was related to Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt, whether Fourth Aunt was too slutty, or if the couple was bisexual.

Eldest Aunt was so mad she wanted to vomit blood. In her heart, she chastised the Fourth family for being a disappointment and the embarrassment of the village.

However, she never suspected that Xia Ling had anything to do with it. Since Xia Ling and Mr. Zhou did not talk about it, Father Ye and Aunt Liu also felt that a little girl fooling so many people was too embarrassing, so they were too ashamed to tell others about the truth. Besides, the one being implicated was the Fourth Family; it had little effect on the reputation of their own family. Why should they create more problems for themselves?

“Where are the Fourth family and their friend?” asked Grandma Ye.

Eldest Aunt quickly explained the situation. “Mother, I’m sure you know that the Fourth family is very busy with their business. After they received a call from a client this afternoon, they hurriedly returned back to the city to settle it.”

Grandma Ye nodded her head. “This Fourth Son only cares about his business but does not know how to take care of himself well. Why did he have to leave in such a hurry? Initially, I wanted to pick some fresh vegetables for him to bring back home.” As she spoke, she turned to face Xia Ling and said, “Xiao Ling, wait for me to pick some fresh vegetables for you tomorrow before you return to the city. They are healthier than those you buy in the stores.”

Xia Ling smiled and agreed.

Actually, since she was always around Li Lei, the food she ate was either specially imported or personally sent to her by Li Lei, and it was on par with Grandma Ye’s fresh vegetables. However, she was very touched by Grandma Ye’s good intentions. She loved the feeling of being taken care of by her elders.

Grandma Ye asked her when she was going to leave.

Xia Ling said, “Probably tomorrow. I have to get some work done quickly in the city as I have yet to finish a few reports.”

Grandma Ye sighed again. Her nieces and nephews were all busy people. Xia Ling felt a little guilty and said, “Grandma, in the future, when I’m free, I will come and visit you.”

Grandma Ye nodded her head and pulled Xia Ling’s hand to make a pinkie promise.

The next day, Xia Ling brought Grandma Ye’s vegetables, Father Ye, and Aunt Liu and drove back to the city.

On the way back, the atmosphere was even stranger. Nobody uttered a sound.

Xia Ling felt drowsy sitting on the passenger’s seat. Suddenly, the car made an emergency brake, and the shock awakened her. “What’s wrong?” she asked Mr. Zhou. She lifted her eyes to view her surrounding only to witness two cars coming out of nowhere to block their path. Behind them, there were three more cars. They were surrounded.

Was this a robbery? She had an unsettled feeling in her heart.

A man emerged from one of the cars in front of them and walked towards them.

Mr. Zhou said, “Miss Ye, remain in the car. No matter what happens out there, do not come out.”

Xia Ling agreed. Mr. Zhou locked all of the windows, got off the car, and shut the door. She had no idea what he was discussing with the other man before he triggered the man. After giving the signal, twenty men holding sticks, fruit knives, and choppers emerged from the cars.

They started fighting. Despite being alone and facing many enemies, Mr. Zhou managed to tackle five or six people. Unfortunately, there were too many people. He slowly started to lose ground, and his shirt began to become stain by red.

Several men holding choppers walked past Mr. Zhou and approached the BMW.

Aunt Liu yelped. “Dear, what should we do? They’re coming! They’re almost here! I can’t stay any longer. I want to flee! I want to flee!”

“Shut up and sit down.” Xia Ling demanded. Although she was very nervous, she still kept her cool. She was well aware that the car Li Lei arranged for her was not an ordinary car. It had an anti-riot structure, bullet-proof glass, and a specially strengthened door. As long as they did not go out inside, they would be safe.

But Mr. Zhou…

Xia Ling looked as Mr. Zhou struggled to fight back. Even at this point, he still put in all his effort to stop those people from approaching the BMW. If he were not trying to protect them, he would not have suffered so many injuries.

Although Xia Ling knew some self-defense, she knew that she could not do much to help the situation. Unexpectedly, she suddenly heard the car door open. It was Aunt Liu!

The savage thugs barged into the car and dragged Aunt Liu and her husband out. They also tried to drag Xia Ling out.

Xia Ling had insufficient time to defend herself. She dropped her phone on the floor and was dragged out of the car by them.

“Let go of me!” She shouted. Ignoring her, the thugs viciously tied her hands behind her back and restrained her body so she could not move.

At the other side, Mr. Zhou, who was bleeding profusely, was also subdued.

“Who are you, people?” Xia Ling suppressed the fear in her heart and asked in the coldest tone she could muster.

One of the thugs started to laugh. “Stupid b*tch, just blame yourself for offending our Young Master Nan and not knowing your place.” After he finished speaking, with a wave of his hand, he commanded. “Take them away! Today we have abducted the new bride for the marriage ceremony and the consummating the marriage. Hahaha…”

The thugs started to laugh presumptuously.

Xia Ling finally understood what was going on. It was Nan Sheng seeking his revenge.

“What you are doing is illegal,” she said. “I will never marry Nan Sheng.”

“It is not up to you to decide that.” Another thug presumptuously examined her. “Little girl, after consummating your marriage with our Young Master Nan, you will definitely be captivated. After that, you won’t leave even if we chase you away. Hahaha.”

“Exactly. Your parents have also agreed to the marriage. What else is stopping you?”

Xia Ling looked over to see Father Ye standing with the group of thugs unscathed. She suddenly realized why Aunt Liu opened the door as quick as lightning. She initially thought Aunt Liu did something stupid because she was scared, but the real reason was that she intentionally wanted Xia Ling to be captured by Nan Sheng!

No matter how many precautions were taken, a betrayer in the family was difficult to detect.

Xia Ling was infuriated. She glared sternly at them and laughed. “Very well. Ye Zhongxiao and Liu Zhaodi, from now onwards, you’re no longer my parents!”

“Brat, it is not up to you to decide whether we are your parents or not.” Aunt Liu played with her hair and arrogantly walked up to Xia Ling. “After a while, you will have finished the ceremony with Young Master Nan and will still have to pay your respects to us, your elders. The next day after you have consummated your marriage with Young Master Nan, you will obediently follow him to the Civil Affairs Bureau to legalize the marriage. After that, you will be Young Master Nan’s woman.”

Young Master Nan gave the Ye Family a betrothal gift of eight hundred thousand dollars. How could Aunt Liu not be happy?

Even Father Ye slowly said, “Xiao Ling, stop trying to revolt. Just accept your fate. What’s so bad about being with Young Master Nan? Women should be contented with the man she has married. Besides, Young Master Nan is so rich that he won’t treat you poorly.” Part of him was tempted by the betrothal gift, and the other part of him sincerely believed that Xiao Ling’s marriage to Nan Sheng would be beneficial.

Xia Ling knew that saying anything to him was useless, so she remained silent.

She saw that Mr. Zhou had been beaten up so bad he had fainted. Covered in blood, she was unsure if he was going to live.

Xia Ling raised her head and coldly said, “If you want me to leave with you, I can do that. However, you have to ensure that Mr. Zhou is safe. Otherwise, even if you have me tied up, I will be unwilling and stir up many problems during the wedding ceremony.” She could not escape right now, so she decided to ensure that Mr. Zhou was kept alive first.
