Invincible from Seeing the BOSS's Health Bar

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Tug of War (1 more update)

Sweet Flower Lane.

Diao Ruru sat at home, blankly staring at the flickering candlelight on the table.

For some unknown reason, she always felt restless.

The dinner from tonight still lay on the table, now thoroughly cold.

This was the result after she had reheated it three times.

Diao Ruru had been waiting since dinner time, all the way till now.

The sky had darkened, the night was cool as water.

Diao Ruru’s heart started to panic, an endless stream of bad guesses uncontrollably emerging in her mind.

”Could something have happened?”

”Why hasn’t he come home yet?”

”It’s almost the hour of the rat...”

”The martial arts school should have closed before sunset.”

”Diao Deyi also said he didn’t like the food at the martial arts school, insisting on coming home for meals every day...”

”What on earth happened... They couldn’t even send a message back, making one worry needlessly...”

Thinking that Diao Deyi might have encountered trouble, Diao Ruru couldn’t help but get teary eyes.

Ever since her eldest brother went missing, she had become increasingly sentimental, always thinking of the worst in every situation.

Tap tap tap!

At this moment, hurried footsteps sounded from the street outside.

Diao Ruru suddenly sat up, quickly walked to the door, and peered outside through the slightly ajar door.

Her mood was both tense and scared.

The incident of Brother Hu barging into their home yesterday was still fresh in her memory.

Moreover, Sweet Flower Lane was not exactly a peaceful place.

Once night fell, all the well-behaved people would shut their doors and retreat to their houses to rest.

There were generally no people moving about on the streets.

If there were any noises, they were usually from no-gooders, or something had happened.

The footsteps were already nearing her house, Diao Ruru thought for a moment, then ran back to the kitchen to grab the family’s only worn kitchen knife.

Just as she stepped out of the kitchen, the door creaked open, pushed from outside.

Diao Ruru was so frightened that she quickly gripped the handle of the knife, pointing it at the person at the door.

But after a closer look...

”Diao Deyi?!”

Diao Ruru exclaimed with surprise.

Her brother appeared, a bundle tied around his chest, his clothes tattered as if gnawed by dogs.

He was also filthy, as if he had rolled around in a dark muddy ground.

But he was safely back.

Diao Ruru’s heart felt a relief as if a great weight had been lifted, and she let out a sigh of relief.

At this moment, Fang Yu also saw Diao Ruru holding the kitchen knife, and he was momentarily astonished.

”Second sister, what are you doing?”

Diao Ruru also came to her senses.

”Nothing, nothing!”

Her face blushed slightly, but her emotions were filled with joy and happiness.

”You finally came back!”

First, she put the kitchen knife back into the kitchen, then hurriedly closed and locked the main door, finally feeling a bit of safety, deeply exhaling.

Then, she turned around, her cheeks puffing up slightly, a small gesture of anger.

”How come you’re back so late! The food is all cold, do you know how I...”

Diao Ruru hadn’t finished speaking when suddenly her voice halted like it was stuck, her eyes widened with a look of shocked terror, even taking a step back in fear.

”Diao, Diao Deyi?! Your, your, your, your heart?!”

The newly returned Fang Yu had untied the bundle at his chest, casually throwing it on a wooden stool.

Then, his hollow chest was exposed to the air.

Yet, Fang Yu behaved as if nothing was amiss, stepping on a chair, still picking through the dishes on the table. Finally finding a slice of meat, he was about to eat it when he heard his second sister’s voice.

”Oh, encountered a demon on the way, my heart got shattered, I picked it up and put it in here.”

Fang Yu pointed at the dirty bundle on the stool while putting the slice of meat into his mouth.

It must be said, second sister’s cooking is not bad at all, definitely much better than Sister Jin’s.

Moreover, when they said the food had cooled down, it still retained some warmth.

Without even thinking, Fang Yu knew it had been a long time since the meal was prepared. The fact that it was still warm meant that Sister Jin must have stirred it a few times.

Fang Yu felt a slight warmth in his heart.

But Diao Ruru standing beside him was stunned.

His heart... was crushed into pieces? And brought back in a package?

Wait!

Diao Ruru quickly came to her senses and rushed to Fang Yu’s side.

”A demon?! You encountered a demon?! Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere, do you need to see a doctor?”

Her words were full of concern.

Love breeds chaos, she even forgot that Fang Yu’s most severe wound was the huge hole in his chest.

Just yesterday you only half believed in my human identity.

Where is the half? You completely trust me now.

Fang Yu gently held Sister Jin’s hands; they were a bit cold and very soft.

”Sister Jin, I’m fine! Even Brother Hu didn’t aim for my heart yesterday, and I am still jumping around lively.”

”That’s not the same! Back then, your heart was just pierced, but now, you don’t even have a heart!”

Sister Jin tearfully exclaimed, utterly bewildered and in panic.

Fang Yu quickly comforted her, even hopping a few times to show how healthy he was.

Sister Jin’s emotions finally stabilized a bit, though her face had tear streaks, having cried just a moment ago.

”Let’s eat, we can talk while eating.”

Fang Yu eagerly ate while Sister Jin did not touch her chopsticks.

”Sister Jin?”

”...I’ve already eaten.”

Diao Ruru still looked worried as she watched Fang Yu with a concerned expression.

”I’m really fine! Don’t you remember how I recovered last time?”

Sister Jin shook her head: ”I... don’t remember?”

Fang Yu was taken aback before he remembered that Yue Guang had knocked Sister Jin unconscious before healing him.

”Actually, I’m not very clear either, maybe eating more and sleeping might help.”

Fang Yu chuckled, but upon hearing this, Sister Jin immediately went to the kitchen.

”What are you doing?”

”Starting a fire, making you some more food.”

Fang Yu wanted to stop her, but seeing Sister Jin’s reaction, not letting her do something would probably not let her settle down, so he didn’t say anything else.

While Sister Jin was busy cooking, Fang Yu finished all the food on the table.

No choice, hungry!

As a martial artist, he required a lot of food.

Food enters the stomach, transforms into Qi-blood, which refines the body and nourishes it back.

This is a cycle of energy.

Fang Yu, strong and enduring, also needed to eat a lot to maintain his strength.

Just as three more dishes were served, Fang Yu noticed that Sister Jin was breathing hard and asked her to sit down and eat too.

This time, Sister Jin didn’t refuse and her mood seemed much calmer.

”How did you escape from the demon?” Sister Jin suddenly asked.

Fang Yu was taken aback.

With calmness comes more thoughts.

Luckily, Fang Yu was prepared.

”I was being chased by a demon, fortunately, I encountered two officials from the Foolish Underworld who rescued me and I managed to escape.”

”Officials? Was it Mr. Li Qianxuan?”

”No, they were two officials I do not know.”

”...”

Sister Jin did not continue, quietly ate her meal, unsure how much she believed.

Yet, after finishing, she suddenly stood up.

”Tomorrow, I’ll take you to see a doctor to check your wounds.”

Fang Yu could not help but laugh and cry.

”What does a doctor know about a Demon Curse.”
